How Asian Makers Unite During COVID-19 (Practices From Japan, Malaysia, and China)
12:52AM Jul 30, 2020
Oh. Welcome back to hope 2020, we're so happy that you could join us today. Right now we have a new session is titled How Asian makers unite during COVID-19 practices from Japan, Malaysia, and China, and with us are Teca Xu, she rockets and Rachel, and they'll be in the COVID, I've been in the matrix talking about their COVID response, while their presentation is going on. So first let's play their presentation, and we'll see you in a few minutes.
On our session about how Asia makers unites during COVID-19 new practices from Japan, Malaysia, and China. Rachel from Dr robot. We are based in Shanghai, China. My role in the community is to help the communication between different countries. And almost half a year, traveling around the world. Here also will invite my friends to Shanghai, to kind of do a little bit mix and match sample. This is a video about me having a jam is wearable electronics and theater, children. February. After two weeks of corrente start to feel a little bit depressed. I feel like I need to call for help. And my friends in the community. Actually, are very supportive and we host a lot of online drinking parties to just share and talk,
kind of helped me get through that process.
And then you know what happens is kind of tradition keep on everyone in the community, get through that process together. That's why I invite friends to this session to tell their stories in their own community. So that we can hear all those great stories about how community actually unite during this special time. So we will your practices from rockets, Gene and tech houses on a lot by that we will have a panel discussion here different opinions and different communities that we welcome you have your own questions. First let's welcome rockets, share, he's practice in China. Close makerspace more open maker community. Welcome. Thank you, Rachel. Hi everyone, I'm raucous co founder of mushroom cloud make space is our space. Shanghai, China. In the next few minutes, I want to share the COVID-19 impact our make space, and what we do to solve the problem, mid March, we cannot can go back to Office Friday and have some coffee. I promise Accra, went to my gym was mocked me, the government's start to encourage us to host the flea market to boost the economic muscle, my son can go back to school is going to school, very happy. In June, Santera will finally open, we can enjoy Swan Lake.
Oh, except the cinema still
everything seems go back to normal. Our MC space now is open to public was shut down the MC space, we start to thinking how can we take Ronnie. Before COVID-19. Everything was offline believe that a face to face communication is very important to the community. Now, embracing changes occurs cannot go to the make space, need to create a new environment to maker is our event, ally. First, our staff have to learn nothing about how to do live streaming. We're kicked off, many times during the live show. That's the 10 ties. Highest reveal online was almost 2000 people's waistline. And another surprise. Can you invite anyone from the ward. You can see when he invited, who was based in Tokyo, live with us. Thank you. So, the 19 is bad. But if we walk together, we can turn it into opportunity. After that, we start thinking again. How can we stay
connected with our member
and the committee.
So, as ritual makers feel lonely, that our community. We think we should help them not to encourage them to make a Project Online calm to one interest, interactive project to share with you. People, a dream squirt at home in front of the camera, some time on his computer,
there's one longing convinced,
People, a do what squirt
monkey, but go up.
Both the wheels, and I can also help monkey can be up or down. comments.
Enable, everyone's participation
with never stopping thinking as a maker, how can we help our society with our ability. Spare by the event about the founder, the most important things as a community leader, into empower operation. That's why we post our online challenges, open to all around China. We have received over 100 projects in one months. We'll show you my favorite project.
We all know temperature indicates, who might get virus. Honey, we use a temperature measurement gum teacher needs to teach how it works to the students. Here, we use AI camera called the Husky lens with one IR temperature sensor,
it can easily scan and show
the temperature of each people,

well main benefits from
In conclusion, as a maker. We will always try to solve problems, although it is not clear. But we can still try to solve the problem by making. I hope we can make as a future together as a community here. Well, thank you for his sharing, then we will go to Malaysia to see how this maker community, raised to protect their frontliner. Let's welcome Jean.
Thank you, Rachel.
So, it's my meeting. Here's my topics. The power data maker race to protect our frontline. So, my name is Jean. I run makerspace in Malaysia. So I have silver makerspace in universities, government agencies, and then some committee member states well. I also do some interactive art design, and my main job is mostly on IoT and security side of campus and. So during this time, we create something called the front line of projects. So, Malaysian side, we will sink public casing getting wet, getting down in Malaysia, or firewall right now. So it's been quite good successively I'll continue to fight modesty, but it's getting better but still very far from over. So, as I can see, on cheap. How nice those as you say that we are still lacking on the supply side that we do have things that we still need. And because I've been taken so. So, we started this movement called keto jerky. So, the Tantra departments of Malaysia, that mean that we pick it out. So, how you started in August in the first place. So, COVID actually really hit Malaysian early much to them. So we have Dr. He calls for help, so that he didn't he can you guys are making space I can you guys make something false. We actually need this thing for like, we have a hospital she lacking on this pp. If you sell for personal protection equipments, that actually that face you mass operating cost into your cell due to the whole economy and stigma. Now, it's actually very hard to get supply for the hospital, but then the case keep coming in. So they actually meet and relax, supply. So they actually said, environmental spins can make one false and the supply for for the, for the hospital itself. So think about it and then we start calling for whole maker communities in the homeland ship. So, I found the whole 3d printed books did a trip with the guys. Maybe you want to take it now and see that they can get printed, we happen to have this, can you print this and pay with transparency, and then we send it over to your local hospitals and local clinic. And then we'll talk to our makerspace at night as well, they actually look at it is it. Can your species, operate during this lockdown period, is it possible that we get some of the material to you guys and the guys that have been out and start making the pizza. So, here we start. So this is very down to websites a community projects. We open sourced our design. So, we noticed that the issues designer discipline internet spending in Europe, puts up this outside shell some things. But then again, they are using on most expensive printer the bigger print and a bit longer. Thanks. So look at it and say, Hey, we have a lot of penance designer English as well. So we call, or, or AMS and get designer that you want this, and to build the design to suit our low cost printer. So, a lot of printer in relation to using something called endo trees, and the PI. Those are sub, like say subtree hundred preventers, and they have pretty okay print size, but you need a few more efficient and make sure the printer is fast enough. So I think the last iteration we managed to print one in less than 10 minutes, or one one piece. So, and then is it last five classes oh and then we actually have a stackable design and shipping.
So, the treatment group that is working on their own, and then slowly they start getting the groups of people around the whole nation, they have many communities and printers today. You've got printers, sending the power. Stop printing, send it to a local hospitals. And then for the maker CSL we do something much more reusable. We do something called laser cutter missions. We take athletes, our supplies and their design and some design that should be cleaned up, and we open sources inside, so that everyone else with a laser cutter can make it as well. So some of the people in our groups actually talk to the factory, they actually come to start out on the injection mold system, and some of the university in Malaysia, actually they are like more like industrial University. There she had own injection. So allow us, we have some mechanism. And in last and only. We are actually getting a lot of this facial make, and then ship. So you can see our open source design. So we do have a few design that the easier, simpler whereby just have a form and crepes and then a transparent sheet and get it on. Yeah, a lot of us see that, hey, why don't you make those design alone. So, we did, we did make a lot of them, but again for medical fundamentals, they usually well, and the farmers, unless you have glasses everything, all those simple maths, they have very easy cover their face, and when a breath. So the yoke to fall in our face in the first place. and it's not comfortable there she readies for long periods. So we did come up a few things is like the treatment as our tribal version, we had accurate versions, we have a lot of different versions, they come up and make sure that this thing should be. So, all around make sure that makers and creators, every single design they can find. They've been tested out and what do you find if I don't close on the design. And then the final surprise but, hey, you guys have enough PLF Romans, who have not stopped by someone and send you over to this place. But one of the reason that this amazed me the most Institute, religions the country separate by sea. So we have, Malaysia, the Sabah Borneo islands, and then we have wrestled Asia, which is the peninsula. So most of the people, and Paktika actually located in peninsula. So when Kobe happens or flight stop. That's known what to stick whatsoever in from East Malaysia to West Malaysia. So we pretty much on your own. So the whole Qatar jacket has the whole hashtag sample workout metrics. So when she contacted over the internet, the makers over in East Asia, so that we can sense material, we can send supply over to your hospital, and your hospital needs. Can you guys work together. Can you get work some plans, using our open source design, and you actually have the supplies materials to them in the first place. And then we go in Crete times, all these things that we usually fulfill, and we have donation drives, we have all these mini, mini committees coming out, and then we start coordinating them and then we start getting all these things people to the hospital. So these are production things. So safety of women constantly so we remember seeing a very ad hoc, and very mini style, so that we prevent a lot of getting one spot. And we make sure all staff comes in sometimes by up that they can see that sort of help you give them that will resolve itself. And we make sure all of them so she cleans and Sarah arise before I send him hospital. So we also make up stuff. Using donation provision, I said factory cannot be open, so the deletion. Obviously, and getting over to them. And then, yes she's sent over to the scrum teams and everything's and he holds the ground everything's and similar to the hospital. So the hospital will get all these things. When they request.
So you can see that we send out facials to law committees, the police in front of us from the hospitals, the medical person deshi inside them. And so far, during our phase one the first two three months orders. I'll make a space alone, we deliver more than 47 hospitals. We have helped, at least 20,000 frontline most easily on based on our effort. And the whole community as a whole maker communities, I estimate, because we don't have actual numbers because we didn't actually follow the numbers when they start doing a lot of things sent together. It sent more than 500,000 easily and I think by now, it's gonna be a medium scale. So, this whole movement, the keypad jack Akita hashtag is actually a very very powerful tools that we actually discovered, so it can force you to empower the people that let people that are wondering, the homes that have been locked out what can they do what what is a team that I can make healthy decisions. So, we give them a mission with a purpose, we protect our financials, we reduce our stress, our healthcare system. And then we let the healthcare people know that, hey, you're not alone out there. Make those and Malaysians actually behind him, and she ready with all our false support. And this whole things and bring along the whole communities together, and we work out our plans and then we get it. So, if you notice. All these things are all these many facial things. So we have one major problem that we have. We haven't solved in the first place. So you see, we got the TP. So, how do we get them could also be the sacred. You see, we can make these things in our home. But then, we do not want to release ourselves deliberately very high rates. Right, so it's like hospitals, whereby they are copied case, active copy case is happening right now. So, the whole bunch of NGO, like us 100% projects, right, our tax committees and my divorces, we decided to form a new movement. And this is a room heater and record the fulfillment service around the whole Malaysia, just for coffee. So we called it ordered manufacturers suppliers donors and then we verified that make sure that others may purchase early on a suppliers is met our specs and donors actually an order delivery, hospitals, the request is all in check. So, then we make sure all the shipping from China, from Malaysia from East Malaysia we can be drafting up maintenance plans to make sure the meter you send the supply over the East Malaysia for us and we make sure every single state is not black out, we supply all them Trump. So, this is what we do. During this market hours, and we do have a lot of coverage in the newspapers and in the media, and lastly is an economy where economy for actually covers that how we actually do our vision pollution session, make sure that things actually get in check, audits on farm communities. So, lots of blasting the share before you guys can fire up especially, we should do a centralized platform. So, might be having essentially what we call a central platform set we actually do for hospitals to actually request up. So one of the problems we noticed in the whole systems, actually, there are a lot of vacation requests, and a lot of like fake requests. So we want to make sure that all these requests have to be requested that she verified and check. And then, have someone to say that hey, this really the disagreements. Can we get someone to send it. So this is a centralized centralized system that actually get all the things in checks. And then you can request, anything contributed. And the best thing about this is we build this thing in like three days or less than a week's using Ruby on Rails. And then, government has taken notice on it and said hey, we are to help me so how can we use your data. Can we help us to build this thing, so they can be the tech lead is actually working very closely with the Minister of Health Malaysia to say that hey, how can I integrate this thing into a system. So when the second way, it ran the next thing here, how we can better make sure ourselves about the pen sense. That's all for me for now. Thank you so much.
Thank you again sharing.
And we'll welcome Taka sun. Here his story about how
the makers work for COVID-19 situation
in Japan. Welcome cassava.
You share for the. How's America work for COVID-19 situation in Japan. Thank you very kindly introduce Rachel. My name is Taka. I have been 39 cities, and 107 mega event in Japan. I still support the Maker Faire Singapore center, and also the mecca coming back Shanghai. In less than a decade. I spend time to support was a maker coming. Like a Singapore shenzen Kathmandu and Barcelona. I hope to quiet. To connect to each country's make our community, more cross current, I'm based in Shenzhen, but it is the under COVID-19 situation. I cannot work to change the temporary in Japan my former also last decade, I had to be around 100 American spaces in around the world. But still, by Tory is suspended by Nike. In this situation, COVID-19, and the makers in Japan, I explained about how we survive, and how we making spit out loud, about the anti COVID-19. In COVID-19 influence splitting beta in Japan, where they're still betas and urine the US. We Japanese not panic, yet we have we have to control the second wave of a pending case the in case in Japan, still around the 300 to 500 each day in our countries. In this number is still increasingly. We have to care for the second waves in these numbers is better than us and the Euro better. We cannot smile, yet. In the beginning of April, our Prime Minister Shinzo Abba, he just says a sentiment about imagine he decoration. That means, almost shut down the bigness and the economies. And after Obama's beginning of May, we start to my economy and save on the city, again, but the collected ambassadors start to increasing again. No stranger is more difficult, more complicated to imagine a police car is a very simple, how stop the enemy. But now, we have ronto more complicated situation, let's start economy, and the stock bundling situation in Japan is getting more difficult. We open source software engineering Japan is a making design information platform called the COVID-19 dashboard by open source software and open data
poster bed occupancy is quite an important
overshoot of occupancy in hospital is I cannot care for the new COVID-19 cases, we have to keeping the empty bed for the new cases. Open Source coming D gathering the data from the overshadows statement on information from each prefecture. And the makings a platform, about which prefecture, and how many beds are still empty or occupied Oh, this is a very great Oh dashboard was a
Correct that orderable informations
that the in this platform is a simple, but how to macros are not so simple. provoca are the OCR OCR is a explain about better fancy, but the data format is not so simple. Some of hospitality is only the PDF. Some of government, these are only the proximity. We have to give as a chrome PDF or from proximity, or from the paper, while from very simple HTML to combat the the machine readable format like JSON. Make on the shelf where the data is the pastor and some engineer making the leading PDF for the making AI software, by GitHub. Sometime using the humor open edition. Each week, different format and machine readable data to combat to JSON. The PDF to JSON API is led by Kunal tyskie. He is a. He spent on many of the technology was a make how makes open data. Most of the successful case is a Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, you decided to open source projects to do. Okay, bye. Japanese open source community code. The code for Japan. COVID-19 Tokyo free open source software platform information dashboard. In this dashboard is a very successful, new enterprise from Japan because of chef was a many professionals in this profession projects or source code, share their own productions in Japan in crews of shadow the private. And in this project is a
for the many people's interests. Many open source software engineer, a force for in this platform getting better. In this three weeks over 750 requests by 224 engineers region in three weeks. In this platform getting better, and the folks to many many prefecture in or around Japan, like Palermo prefecture Chiba Prefecture Syed opera boxer, Jacob makes the platform easy because of based on open source and totally over 200 of the open source engineer force was a mix of Korea in Japan. They are so activating online dimera develop the so many service for COVID-19 by open source. So many savvies donation. Pick him up, study at form, and the documentation, etc etc. Many service release the old muscle, once a day. And the de Cannes JB Jay shadow own platform, each other, getting a better by communication. Not the oldies in DC, 40s are not only software by open source, how do I make us also start to making a two day try to make a DIY sanitization, and how it makes a happy mind in workpro home, beginning of my beginning of May, Tokyo Mac toto Maker Faire also moved through online,
their own software own projects by Twitter, you hold the day.
Japanese is how do I make also
get the idea how against the two COVID-19
countries are making the
other hand washing is this open source software movement in Japan, Tokyo to Japanese over here government. Several government agency, open GitHub account and start to collaborate with the open source software community in Japan, like in this our left one is a bizarre meaning so you will read on the industry's open Kitab account. And they share address combat Japanese rocker others kobata to more machine readable. The light one is a COVID-19 later connects to his opera and the Google is
testing as a platform.
They also collaborate to open source communities.
This is my conclusion.
Why chrome home, and the force of COVID-19 are so stressful and boring. That, and many mega event was in the cancer, on the from cancer from this situation, also bad things. However, open source community and civic tech movement in Japan is getting better day by day.
In this current disclosure
open source movement and the civic tech movement are still getting rapidly Agapi and getting grow rabbitry. I hope to technology makes better at these times. And of course I hope to my trip again. But the current situation is I getting the more good the impact of digitization in Japanese society. Thank you. You
need it is a difficult time for the maker community. And for everyone around the world. Always still unite to get through this. So, the panel discussion will probably start with one simple question. What do you think about the good side and bad side.
And during the COVID-19 situation in your community.
In Japanese society is a very stressful on the COVID-19, but some local government, try to do the open data and the corporate visa engineers by eventually technology. I hope the Morimoto og, ma forecaster data and society getting more shifted to digital digital
the trend is already there.
Yes, yes, yes.
I'm Jean How about your side.
Yeah. Oh, Malaysia sitesell. So what we see is actually a very rapidly transformations from a very traditional commerce retail business, or what online business in a very short come away with this hobby. So I have friends who actually do financial services, some for restaurants, they get a team up together in one week time, they can pack up a delivery system based on the POS system platform. So, any vendors any restaurant that suddenly using their system can now actually do the database service, so they can send food, they can send items straight from the shop to the user, usually, without innovation fast time. And we see how allow users to start picking up on new loads order online retail payments. So, we see the transformation does change everything. Oh boy, one more time.
Huh. Yes. Also some changes. Yes, but both sides. Yes,
Just like a pub before. I think that
COVID-19 is bad and
we should have gathered together as a community so we can make it opportunity. So I think the communication is lots changing. Although we cannot say face to face to communication, but.
So we have
internet so we can, we could connect with. Who is the net. So I think it's, it's also an opportunity to change in so yeah it's also have a bad side and the two sides,
and I think we should grab the opportunity to make it better. You need the connection between community is very important. No matter what, we will try to stay together and stay connected. And my next question will be. What do you think, be the future. After this COVID-19 situation, how our maker community will change according to that. Okay, I don't
think you do 100 makes a few times for the maker. I still don't hope. We make as we do back on track. We can trip again in the very near future within one year or three years, the other hand, we need more than one digitization correcto more closely by digital. more closely by digital technology. In this is three months, almost each two weeks, I running the international conference, like in this hope. I strongly believe we can connect to each other again. and in this situation. Thank you.
So Rachel, when you talk about a future site, what your future will be coming on. Let's say the copy case, I think the best way I can say is the latest study from Hubbard says that even the antibodies papers, when he sees to have less than 300 days of the vaccine effect effectiveness. So, this thing won't go away in five to 10 years. So cobit is here to stay, and the new homeowners had to stay as well. So how do we see the maker communities can help in this special reset. We are the frontlines and Pioneer on this, we should help, creating our news SRP, the new methods that we shadows. So that, like for example from our scanners effortless the mask. Checking system, the fuel tank system that you can easily get. And then we help people, not so tech savvy, to make sure they follow them, and then attract them easily. So, I think we should be okay I mean, I've, we've been running our countries for like almost one month now, after longhouse. And I think that's I think getting met Mahmoud a lot with a lot of innovations happenings here and there from a retail side, a lot of the change the paradigm shift the paradigm from just doing fully offline business to online, and people are saying that they are going to go to this place. What is the possible thing they can do to prevent myself getting hit from COVID. So people are consuming this as an option I'm sorry think vacancies, and makers itself can help make this process much more seamless, like for example we can help them design and develop custom solutions that actually integrate with our current business opportunities and this business model. I think that's the way to go and I
heard it for me.
Even like this is an increase. unprecedent is unimaginable in our lifetime. So, and this is a good time for us to show that how resilient we are in terms of getting hit by the Corbett's and the disaster. I think we can make it through, and we can go up the stronger
curator of the future. I think that a lot of
things will be online is
And the second thing is I
see a lot of our lifestyle projects, our make space and the community, I think it's not necessarily high tech for that cause common and it makes us realize how normal life really matters. It's the one who make a better world made that award together.
Thank you Thank you rockets. Thank you, G and thank you takasaki.
Thank you for your time and sharing all of this good
practices from your medical community. Now let's move on to the q&a session here some questions from the audience.
All right, welcome back to hope 2020, we have the speakers with us for this COVID response in Asia, Japan, China and Malaysia, we have with us tech a surgeon Rachel and rockets. Hi guys, thank you very much for joining us.
Hi Matthew gave me you. I.
a few questions in the, in the chat, and I'll go ahead and start right in our first question is, oh, there was a question about making the PP. And you answer the question but like you just to answer the question, how did you make the p p e on the printers and how did you put it together.
Oh, so I think the specific question asked about the p p scrap itself. So this is actually one time use what we get is actually we get donations from the Excel company. So they have this 32 grams to 30 grams of PP polypropylene non woven cloth. So it's actually come in the whole giant roll hole. So
we actually cut it up using the
textile cutter. So basically as he saw the moving blade. And then we have a design out by the fashion designer to actually come up with a design for kids for the dolls for the female meal. So we according to the design, we actually draw them directly. And so they cut it up, and then we then send this cut out pieces to the simple to the table so if it was sewing. So then we actually package it disinfected, and then send it over to the hospital anyone that we need. So they are also factory who actually run or the whole production line that you just making this. So yeah, so that's how we actually make it a real thing. You can actually get all the templates everything's online as well.
Very good, very good such an important thing to have PP during the pandemic. All right. Our next question is, do your makers bases have many adults and kids participating in follow up, is what backgrounds to your makerspace members have other technical or something like that. Yeah,
basically. Our makerspace is a tap to all age peoples, but in the, in the unit that py. I think a lot of students are blocking a stay at home and the Z they have to watch the Nets walk a classroom so they cannot come to our space, but the adults can can join the online meeting something like that so we have no limited to the, to the ages, so.
And now for now.
We just realized that the cinema is open. The people finally can go and watch movies on every, every, every, people can come to our MC space and have
found was making some.
Getting back to
you think, okay, the question is,
how do the business models work in your makerspace like external funding donations member fees grants, How do you sustain yourself, financially, running the makerspace there.
Basically, we, we have a, we have our sponsor df robots, and we have another sponsor is a software a POC, some kind of a
How can I see that, Rachel Can you help me. Ah,
some sort of like a industrial part of government funding, sort of thing. Yeah. Yeah,
thank you. And the industry parks. These provide the space so we we are not paid rent of the space, and for for the for the ronnie df robots will send the people who sent to the employee to help to run in the space, but
basically we are we are
a balkanization. Our makers, our members will be helped to run in the system. So when when nobody no administration is there the member will help to paint the room to maintain the space or maintain the equipment, and that, as I said before, the equipment a lot of equipment is donation by the by the members, they'll do well have helped to do that. So we are not afraid of the financial things.
So for my site
donation site. So, I want space right now the when the place, even right now I can turn off the breaker. So
what will happen is we actually, we
actually provided by the guy, the school itself. So actually this make the space you locate in the university. So the locations and the space, and the equipment needs for better University. So we as external partner come into the space to help organize events and help students to actually understand how to use the tools fit. So we do have a few other smaller makerspace that mostly more everything. And our revenue come from making events, doing workshops, and honestly, it's it is a big part on our ability to copy pay because event, most of them the bigger you can get close, but we do continue runs a few the event to helping the post and young adults, everything is still running right now, and we are figuring out how to do online show videos to meetings and conferences
in Japan is also similar situation as US and China, and as always about
our space, heads up for the profitable like
to Tokyo, and some other places is a very difficult to continue. But the
space for the only for the community, like mushroom crowd style maker space is a still keeping alive You know me employee, and not lending the price to as as the survival only for the members. These maker spaces, still continue running in Japan.
Right. Rachel did you want to add something to them.
I think so, for the mushroom cloud makerspace right now. Um, one of the, one of the fee that they can actually get is member fee. So, as that like, we have one sponsor, and also the industrial part, which is government support, and we have the member fee. And on the other side here in China, a lot of people they actually have to say that the companies, they want to get innovation ideas. So they want to tell us workshops for the employees, or they have hackathons where the new ideas for the new products, and they will come to us as well, or time so this
is excellent. Yes.
Right. We've got a few more minutes left and I have another question here for you. Do you think that the COVID-19 crisis as major space stronger and more cohesive.
Who wants to start with that. Rachel.
Um, truth be
told, I would say it is.
It is, you know, it's called time and we see a lot of members they actually communicate. They glue each other more,
would find out that the connection between people is more important than ever. Um, you know, although through online or through different ways but, as a community, we still need to be stay connected. And that kind of support really helped us get through this whole process. So what I see in our community. Yes.
Sounds good. And I guess everybody agrees with that you want to other. Anybody else want to make comments on that. Yep,
that's a that's a question from the chat room there. So, that's do the government industrial fund expect to get things in returns, like products ideas and innovation can use in terms of Malaysia site. So most of our funder is actually CSR fun, I mean corporate social responsibility, so they don't actually expect something coming from their government site, the EPA taking on grants that were specific targets. I think yes they do expect something on it. But even more like applying for certain programs or anything like, then they do actually expect ideals, or like innovation come from there.
Okay. Like I think we've got time for just one more question. Does the government. Well, I'm just gonna follow up with a covid question. Do you think this COVID will have a big impact for the future makerspaces and as you bring more people in how will this impact you in the future.
wants to take the first rocket. Yeah,
don't get Don't be the one.
Okay, yes I think the the impact will be true. And I think otherwise I'll ask a maker or the the people to realize the life really matters so I think a lot of maker will change to the change of their my mind, maybe they are not making some high technology since the well, they will focus on their life, or do something really help, not just the one. I mean, though, you know, I think that will be of most importance for the makers. That's why
we're out of time. I want to thank you very much. Our Rachel Jin soo and rockets, for joining us and your perspectives on COVID in Malaysia Japan and China. Thank you from all of the volunteers and attendees. We really appreciate it. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you.
Hello, 2020. I'm Phil hom Baker, and this is a call for volunteers to help build something that could be wonderful. Mathematical mesh is a threshold key infrastructure. That means it uses advanced cryptography, to make computers, easier to use, by making them more secure, and it offers a new level of cryptographic security. If allowed it puts you, the user in control of your personal digital life. Now it's almost ready for launch. We're almost. We've almost passed the 300 unit tests that we need to go into alpha release, but I'm going to need your help to complete and deploy it, and you don't need to be an expert in cryptography to help, obviously, the more crypto geeks can help willing to work on this, the better. But you don't need to be an expert in cryptography to help. If you want to learn. I've got a free crypto course on YouTube that you can learn from. And, but you
don't need to be a developer either.
Obviously, that's useful again, integrating the mesh into existing applications. So you can wrap security around them. That's going to be powerful, but what we're going to need most of his people willing to try out the alpha release and give us feedback, tell us is the code working, is it solving a problem for them. And what features could we add that would make it better. Make it more useful to solve the real problems. So you can find out more about the mesh in my hope talk which is in the archive. And on the mesh website math mesh.com. So thanks for listening to my bump and please stay safe, and have a great remainder of your hope conference experience. Thank you.
