Online Business Bad Side
10:10AM Mar 12, 2020
What's up, everybody? Yeah, this is going to be pretty different. How I normally do it funny enough. I've actually already tried to record this two times today as I was out for a walk, but I'm currently now in the car. And I figured, I'm just not going to do it again. I've done this before my life, I've recorded car, or now I wanted to endow and then haven't for whatever reason. But I'm actually going to send this one out. Because I think this one is quite important. It's basically the whole side of online business or any business any thing that people are doing, that's a bit different. It's a size that most people don't really talk about, and to be honest on the podcast, I do try and get this out the guests a lot of the time, you know, it's just getting them explaining the bad parts of online business or business wherever, wherever it is that they're doing. because quite often we hear those success stories and you see the headline of people saying things like it made made $100,000 from starting my blog in my first ever year. And it's just so easy to get disheartened. You think, oh, I've been blogging for like, two years now and I still struggle to make anything. And it's like, well, maybe I'm just doing it wrong. I'm just gonna give up. But that is not the case. Even people that you had so like that story that I just said it's pretty much like Alex nerney and Lauren. They Do avocado create and go? They made $100,000 in their first year or plugin, Alex on the podcast before they even said they tried blogging before, you know, he dabbled in online business stuff for years before really, you know, he, it's not like it was just an overnight. That's what they did you know, they full on quit their job and both of them were working in it together for a full year and I've got to say there's a lot to be said, Ben and Jess, as well. We've been on podcast before, thoughts about breaking 1% very similar sort of thing. I think there's a lot to be said, of having two of you. It helps to keep you accountable. It helps bounce ideas off and stuff and chances are when one of us having a bad day, the other one can help be able to lift you up and you know there's someone there they keep you accountable. But this is exactly what has happened to me in the last week. It's just basically been probably the worst week since I have quit my job in September. It's just been really tough. And I can't pinpoint exactly why. And then also within that week, then I see like shiny objects, and you really start thinking, Oh, yeah, maybe I should go down this route. Maybe I should do that. And I really, really tempted as well with a lot of stuff. Maybe I should just stop doing this. You know, maybe this is not the path for me. And maybe I should be doing something else, either. There's so many different things, so many shiny objects that you see online. Basically, the thing that grabbed my eye was the generations of small working with like small businesses and local SEO and things like that is actually just from speaking to a friend. kinda gave me an idea. And then I saw cause and you know what it's like shiny object, you've been there.
The thing was, I thought away everything just being really hard or that no motivation to do anything. And I've had that before, like the other day. But you know, I just power through and you get through that day and then you wake up the next day and you feel like this. This was like the whole week. And it's the first time that really happened. I didn't, you know, wouldn't even wanted to do a podcast like this where no one is I didn't want to speak to anyone about this sort of stuff. It was just for whatever reason, I'm right in internally, mulling things over and everything just seemed so much worse in my own head. So I just wanted to share like what I've done this Which kind of helped, hopefully might help you, if ever that has happened to you or ever happened to you in the future. First of all, just want to start by saying though, the whole point of my power line and everything is I want to be able to show people different ways that people have, you know, live life on their own. It's such a cliche, you know, living your best life and YOLO and all that sort of stuff. But the reality is, if you want to do that, you have to work your butts off. Yes. frickin work, evolve, you know, just gonna wake up and be like, working for the rest of my life. You know, it just doesn't happen like that. The people that make a million dollars or whatever, from that blog any year, it doesn't just happen. And this is the whole point. I want to show people like they're normal people. They're not like you Stage talent is haven't had loads of money handed to them. They have grabbed it, figured stuff out, got knocked out, and then figured stuff out even more. And this is the whole point. If you want to have a life like that, not everyone wants that. You just want to have a nine to five work, you know, trade your trade you like fire for two years, by all means do it if it makes you well. Yeah, if it makes you happy, then yeah, by all means do it. But I think a lot of people tip themselves and say, Oh, yeah, no, it's all make me happy. And I don't think there's anyone that you can speak to, though, who would say yeah, I want to work five days of the week, and then get two days off for 15 years of my life, and then Fingers crossed, the government's gonna have asked me if I pay my taxes and get a pension and stuff like that. One, no one that's not a dream life. Life is life time is just time. Going to work on a Monday to Friday is not reality. It is just what we have been conditioned to accept, you know, like you go to school, from the age of four to the age of 18. That is what you do for every single week. And it's just Anyway, I'm ranting. The things that have helped me this week, like I've already kind of recorded this. It's been different every time I've ever set this up.
I'm going to say three things.
Three things Now, one thing that helped me was talking, talking to other people, people ideally people that you know, and trust and love. That's really the people that really have no obligation. Sarah, probably two and a half absolutely men And maybe this is part of the reason why this week has been so rough to me is there has actually been back in the UK with a brother just had a baby so she wanted to come see the baby before. You know, the next time we see it would be she wanted it as a newborn baby and still pretty new.
And we've got some exciting news to share with you now.
Yeah, you probably worked out anyway.
Yeah, so apologies for that man. But she has has always so supportive and just just listen, even though she doesn't understand everything that I'm saying. She lifted and can give me honest advice. And she knows me. She knows
I like those shiny objects,
just like a magpie. She can ground me He knows how to do that. But then I've also spoken to other folks who are very good friends. You know, I didn't need to message him and asked him if I could just chat to him. But again, he's so supportive, doesn't understand anything about that does understand quite a lot, and he just gives me his own opinion. And again, understand me, I think that's a very important thing. It's different for every single person. Every single person will have different thing struggles and challenges. And the answer is different for everybody. So having someone that actually understand you is important, but equally, in the same breath is also important. take advice from people who are where you want to be. So obviously, it's great having friends, things like that, speaking to them and getting advice from them, but equally, they're not always going to be the best people to see to see Because they what they're doing, they have done the same thing that you want to you want to achieve and things like that. Because they will obviously have their own mindset on how things work. And it's always going to be better, you know, like they always say to you get a coach, get a mentor, and those people will only listen to people that have done what you want to achieve, which I think is so true. So I've also bought like an online, online friends or no friends who have been super helpful as well people that I really respect and admire people that you know, I trust their opinions. So get an advice from those people speaking about it and just help to get it out of your head and confirms you're not an idiot more than anything else and just put things in perspective because I mean, this is the thing like this The crazy thing things have actually been working for me. They actually are what like,
the process of doing that with affiliate marketing and
the training that I'm using and things like that is all fine. It's just happening exactly how it should be going. It's just that I'm an impatient.
It's all thing.
We all want results quicker. And that's the thing. I think that's kind of the, the issue that has been going on anyway. Anyway, number two, the second thing that I find works really well for me, is just grounding myself. So meditation, yoga, things like that. If you haven't done them before, I probably sound like a hippie and woowoo you know, you just think, work for me. But this is the thing that if I told myself this six years ago, there's no way in hell. I would believe the words that I'm saying, because I just did not understand meditation. Okay, people, you know, he is accessible people that can meditate and do exercise and blah, blah, blah, blah. He just kind of thing. But it's not to me, I'd rather go and play football. I'm actually on my weight level right now. Yeah, so. But actually, if you just get out of your own ego, do that go, then you'll be amazed at how much that can really help. And this week, whenever I've meditated, my mind is all over the place, and that's fine. That's the whole point is you're not trying to stop your mind and shut your mind down. It's just a case of acknowledging thoughts. And then letting go of them and trying to empathy just helped so much. It's crazy how much it helps. Especially once you can, you know, you can you can do it, try guided meditation. I think we Started with the app headspace and actually data
from the Buddhist, which is
you have, it's like, imagine a monkey. So while you're meditating, just imagine the monkey. And the monkey is like running around climbing trees, what you want to do is get the monkey to sit on the stool, you can do that, then that's basically calming the monkey down. If you go chasing the monkey is just going to keep running away, keep escaping, you're never going to catch the monkey, it's
gonna get harder and harder.
Whereas if you could just sort of put a banana on the store, take a step back, allows a monkey to do his thing. And eventually, the monkeys gonna calm down. And so you can manage the monkey running around that you're not trying to control it or stop it or resist what is doing. The monkey is basically a thought the same thing. You can acknowledged before they're gonna, you chase them to try and control them. You're going to make it work.
So just the
the power now and all that kind of jazz.
It helps me anyway.
Yeah, so first thing is acknowledge your small accomplishments, your small achievements. And at the end of each month, I just always, you know, do the stats and see how much traffic he caught and blah, blah, blah, you know, just just keep tally of things. And just one from doing that. I realised January I think had something like 3000 monthly visitors from Google. In February, it was over 6000 it more than doubled in this month. Yeah. I'm sitting there, being annoyed at the lack of growth and accomplishments. If I told my Tell SAS you months ago, I just wouldn't believe it because, you know, the website hasn't really been doing that.
So it's just
she's actually realising what
Sarah did, there's gonna be things working, whether you believe it or not, doesn't matter how small they are, just by acknowledging them, it helps it really helps to be nice and obviously that if you receive any, like nice emails or whatever like that, keep those things in one place is such a such a great way to realise Are you are impacting people or what whatever it is that you know, anything that you receive. Just keep those sort of things in a place that you can kind of go back to because that really helps.
But I am at football now I need to go.
I hope that's useful. And I hope that
the main thing though is if you are
really struggling with this sort of stuff Just speak to someone let them know. And ideally, you know, just having someone to listen to you rabbit on really, really helps. And so it's better if someone if you don't have you don't have something, just reach out to me, Mike and meet Carmen live.com. Just send me an email and I'll be happy to respond and help any way that I can if I can, and or even just have a quick chat or whatever it is, but because
I just know
that this happens to so many people,
yet we don't share it. We we don't. It's kind of like miscarriages and stuff. Like you just don't share this stuff. But I think the more that you can, the better everyone feels and realises Oh, I'm not just being a weirdo. I'm not just, I'm not just failing miserably that this is completely normal.
