Hey girls and boys. Today we are going to use a podcast to help us walk through our first lab in fifth grade. So we're going to be doing a four step lab with the title, what can happen during a chemical change. And on this podcast, I am going to share the steps as you go so that it's easier for you to understand during that, while reading it.
It's really important today that we have all of our safety gear and equipment and material right by our table. So before you start, please double check the board with what your teacher has described that you're going to need for success.
Do you remember going to the University of St. Francis and seeing the physical science demonstrations done, and the science environment and the respect for the chemicals? Well, today we are going to emulate exactly that in our classroom to determine whether the mixing of two or more substances result in new substances. Collect data and record to help calculate to make inferences at the end of the lab.
Step one, put 50 milliliters of water and a thermometer in cup eight. After one minute, record the temperature. He said that somebody has the timer ready when you do that.
Step two, add three scoops of seltzer to a cup. Wait one minute, record the temperature from the thermometer on your activity.
Step three, wipe off the thermometer with a paper towel. Put 50 milliliters of water and the thermometer and cup be wait one minute. Record the temperature. Be sure your friend has their timer ready.
Step four, add the baking soda spoonfuls and calcium chloride to the cup then wait one minute, record the temperature.
In this unit, we have been learning all about chemical changes, chemical equations and chemical reactions when some substances are changed into other substances. Today's understanding will help you articulate and question the science and the upcoming chapter. Nice job!
