So I appreciate each and every one of you listeners. Today, we have a return guest. After some time, I'm very excited to speak to this wonderful Midwest grower, a good friend of mine, and always meeting up at mitsuwa to talk growing and swap genetics. We have none other than Shy Town kanachika back on the show. What's up? Kanachika? How are you doing? What's going on? Jordan, how are you I'm so good. Thank you for coming back on the show, absolutely. Yeah, we got to go back to Mitsuha. Got to go back to Mitsuha. That's the spot. You know, you get really baked, and then you get yourself some udon or some ramen, good times. And you were so generous when we did meet up. You You have a huge seed stash and genetic library, that's pretty impressive. I'm seed and weed rich. You truly are, yeah, and you were very generous with the flower. Always impressive, of course, at Shy Town Kana Chica on Instagram is the big page where you can see all the pretty flowers. And if you've been this listener to this show for a while, then you've heard Shy Town Kana Chica probably a couple years ago at this point. What's been going on since last we spoke? You just continuing to grow fire, winning a bunch of competitions, doing
your thing. That's about, right? Yeah, you know, Same shit, different day, but still growing since 2020 and continuously learning with this crazy plant that literally should grow like a weed, but, you know, you just got to try to coax all that good stuff out of it.
You've been, listen, you've been doing a good job. I know that you're, you're humble grower. You know you say you represent new growers and average growers and things of this nature, but for just been, just being growing for three years, that's pretty incredible to to come out with the consistent quality that you do. So congratulations on that. I know you give credit to the plant and the genetics and and all that. But we're going to go over a whole garden overview today. We're going to talk about strain reviews, because you blow through so many strains, you just pop more and more seeds, which I love. That's all I do. We're going to talk about your secret sauce you posted recently your kind of stacked nutrient recipe, if you will. So we're going to go over that and also touch base on some other things. For those who have not heard you on the program before, like your interesting veg cycle this time of year. But before all that, listen, you've won some competitions. Let's talk about this. Since last we spoke, you've taken some accolades. Can you share that with us? Yeah, absolutely.
So feeling a little bit more confident in, you know, getting things down a little bit more and tweaking things. So I've been entering a lot more grow offs, grow competitions. And recently there was one called the goat cup, and we had to get some goat genetics, which is a breeder out of Illinois. And, you know, I've attended your guys classes before, and we talk about, you know, terroir and all that good stuff. So. I do believe now there's a lot to be said with a breeder that breeds in Illinois and makes selections for Illinois and based on Illinois growing an environment and popped a bunch of seeds from goat one, goats choice, and then fourth place overall. And it was literally one point that separated, you know, second, third, fourth. So it was really a close race. Wow. So won that, and really weird, like goblet trophy. So it's kind of cool. Won a soul when a soul fire grow off Solo cup. Second place with a beautiful strawberry pink Terp Bahama berry strain, which just is amazing. I mean, that's just an amazing plant all around and then one heavily connected seed bank grow off, one a couple others too. Jeez, what the heck? Just, yeah, just been it keeps things interesting. You know what I mean? Otherwise you get not bored, because the plant always keeps you interested, but it keeps you motivated. Just push harder and harder to do better and better. I think that's why I like grow offs. Oh, dang. I love that. I mean, three or four right now. So I just popped a bunch of seeds, and I gotta pop a bunch more soul fires on September 1. So there's a bunch of grow offs going
right now. Okay, so let's start here. Why not take cuts? I You pop more seeds than I don't want to say anyone I know but, but usually people are hunting, and they keep around to cut. You just got to pop them all. Is that what you're telling
me? That's exactly what I'm telling you. I know. I post some pictures of some of these cuts, and there's completely fire. And my family, my friends, are like, Oh my God, that one was a killer. And like, I'm like, I know. I wish I would have kept it. Here's the thing. Some people gamble. Some people play lottery scratchers. Some people have seed addictions. And the way, the way I look at growing popping seeds, really, I this is the way I look at it is number one, I've gotten some really fire clones from some really, pretty famous people in the Grow community, and they're out of California, and they're out of, you know, the West Coast. And it could be me, but honestly, I bring some of these cuts into my garden, and they're frosty, but they're like larfier area. They're not big and fat. And there's, again, that whole terroir, that whole environment that I think has a lot to play with it. So even if I do take a cut, sometimes it might only last for like, a couple rounds. So I feel like seed popping is like lottery scratchers. You know, one out of one out of 20 is going to be a banger. I mean, lately I've been like five out of five, like winning the the jackpot. But I think that's what keeps you on your toes and growing. It's like you can get really lazy and consistent, like, well, I know exactly how to feed this plant exactly every time, whereas, if you grow a different seed every time, it really helps you learn, and that is better. That
is definitely true. And that's interesting, that you're representing local growers, especially when you're dealing with climate, right? Yeah, that is absolutely true of any geographic location. Is that I think plants adapt rather quickly to their environment. So even if it hasn't been bred there and kind of preserved there for generations, just finding out what works in that climate and then maybe even just adapting over like a couple of generations, it'll make a huge difference, especially in an outdoor setting. You're not in the in the perfectly controllable Grow Tent environment, and let's be honest, we're all subject to the greater environment, even us indoor growers, to some extent.
Oh, yeah. I mean, Chicago basements right now are like 75% humidity. Yeah,
see, that's nuts. That's gonna require a certain type of genetic or you may run into problems.
I mean, multiple D use running. I mean, it's terrible. Yeah, that's rough.
And you will also do a very interesting indoor outdoor type grow. You touched on it last time you were on the show, but I would like to talk about it again. I see some people doing this, veg to flower, indoor, outdoor. But you veg outside during a lot of the year, and then bring your plants indoor. Can you talk about that? Yeah,
this is the only time of the year you can do it. Obviously, I really had great results with it. I know everyone's like, Oh, you're going to get spider mites, you're going to get aphids, you're going to get, you know, extra like, Whatever, whatever. Worst knock on wood, worst problem I've ever had was, like, thrips or fungus gnats doing this. I do believe in the sun, I obviously gives you the better energy, the better light, the better quality. So come around May, this is what I love. This is what I love to do this time of year, come May, I take all those reg seeds that I know are going to be fire that I just want to get into, but I just don't want to waste my electric, my my real estate space with it. So pop a lot of those really fire regs that you want to get into and put them outside. And I know, technically you're supposed to be fenced in and whatever, but like, you know, gorilla, hide them, whatever you got to do. And so May, June, come July, that's when they start to get pretty big. And then I basically pop them in my garage. I blast them with the leaf blower. I spray them down with a bunch of different. Stuff, like mammoth Canna control, like green cleaner, you know, every other day Dr zymes, like, I switch whatever I'm doing. I spray the pot down, spray the plants down, then I blow them again with air. So a they're sitting in my garage for about four days, which is not complete darkness, but pretty damn close. So you're getting that four day. It's initiating photo period right there. Oh, interesting. And then so come like, mid June or July, excuse me. So mid July, then I can pop them into my basement, go right into a flower cycle, so I'm still not burning as much electric. And I can keep my environment a little bit more controlled as well. So I'm like, only running like a four by four area, or maybe a little bit bigger, depending on how many I've got that time, like male females, wow, and not got, like, I said, knock on wood. I haven't had any issues with pets. I don't find, I think a lot of people will shy away from that, but it's like, I don't find it to be any different than if you know you're just going outside and coming into your grow room, which everyone like, cringes at. But it's like, you could bring in an aphid. You could bring in this, like the only problem I've ever had so far, knock on wood outside, was aphids on an auto, which a, it's an auto. Who cares? And then B, I just sprayed it down a couple days, and they're
gone. Yeah? Some like canopy aphid, real easy to knock out. And also expanding your IPM circle beyond your grow tent in your office. This is something that Matthew Gates has talked about on the show before, which is like, view your outer perimeter outside of your house. There are things you can do. You can, you know, plant beneficials that are going to attract predators. You can treat plants that might be infested with thrips that you just walk by every single day. To your point, you know, we were out and about in New York City, and here's, you know, Matthew gates, like, oh, this, there's this, you know, crack in the sidewalk with a weed growing out of it. It's covered in thrips. I'm like, Man, I don't even notice that sort of thing. If I were to step on that and get that on my pant leg. Like, it's just interesting. And the idea of expanding out beyond just your grow tent and not being terrified of the outdoors,
well, it's like, not even you, like, say you have pet picking of pets. Like, how many, how many ticks has my dog brought in? Like, those are just ticks. Like, I can't even imagine what else he's brought in the house. That
is true. That is so true. So obviously different styles work for different people. But I think this is very creative, and it fits into your kind of yearly flow. Well,
the health of the plant. The health of the plant is just freaking insane. Like, you're just giving it so this is when I go organic. So you're just putting on, like, for instance, for that, like, I'll just throw in like, Royal Gold powder on the top, nice, you know. So you just, and then you just take hose water. Sorry, there's chlorine in it, there's fluoride in it, there's all that stuff in there. But you're just literally taking hose water, and your plants have never looked healthier, greener, like not that dark green from nitrogen. You don't get any nitrogen claw they prey. I mean, they just it's a healthy, beautiful canopy, especially
in like, when your plant, here's here's some qualifiers. When your plant isn't being bombarded by the elements, right? And it's outdoors, it's like that meme. I'm sure you guys have seen this meme with the buff dog and the skinny dog. And the buff dog says, my outdoor plants growing out of a crack in the sidewalk with plain hose water, and then the indoor plants is like my pH is, you know, point one off. There's something about that outdoor vigor, again, the environment aside, if you were to put that vigor in a vacuum, something about outdoors just they love it. So, so you veg them outside and bring them in, like, even
the natural dry back and, like, your courses with the soil and the microbes that you just naturally get from, like, bird poop or whatever, yeah. So there's like, that unknown that you're getting just from nature and the air and the, you know, the wind. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. I let your drybacks are spot on every damn time. No matter what type of pot you're using outside the dry backs are perfect. Yeah, that's a good point, too.
You're just gonna have a lot of a different expression. I feel like very cool. And then, and then the extended, kind of shady period to kick them into flower. You have a unique growing style. That's, I guess. What I want to highlight is, there's so many ways to skin this cat and most importantly, do what makes you happy. Whatever you like that makes you happy. I think what you do highlights also do what fits with your life, like you got other shit going on. You know what? I mean? You're busy and this time of year, and your climate, on your property, in your house, it makes sense to like do it this way. So I just encourage everybody to look at it like that and find a style that that works for them and, more importantly, makes them happy 100% so I want to talk about your regimen, because you try a lot of different products. You do like a syngenic type thing. You recently made a post about your quote, secret sauce. Can you just go over, like, your base nutrients, your favorite additives, and what you talked about in that post,
yeah, yeah. So I do a bunch of different things. So veg, it's I'm relying mostly on the soil, and I do a fresh bag of soil every time I don't make my own like, like you said, I'm really busy with work, so, like, I just go to the girl. Store, buy a bag of soil and plop it in there with some Myco, you know. And so veg, it's very minimal feed. It's pretty basic. It's like a couple nitrogen boosts here, if I see a deficiency rolling, which, when you see a deficiency rolling, you're already two weeks behind. So I never go with an organic that way. I go with salt. But so veg is pretty much or all organic, like a good soil, like Royal Gold Medal mix is a lot what I use, Pride Lands, you know, whatever they got on sale, quite frankly, hell yeah. And so then veg, very minimal. And then go once I flip to flower, that's when I start going a little heavy and hard at the plant. And I do an a full organic tea a couple times, feeding during, like, that transitionary period, and that's with my cultured microbes. And it's more of like a microbe type of tea. So thrown in, like, after your guys classic, at all these microbes, you know what I mean, and I don't even know when to use different ones. I'll be honest. I like photosynthesis, plus MAF, P hydro, Ben, you know, King Crab. I'll be honest. I've no idea when to use different ones. But I do remember from your guys, course, like mammoth, he like dominates. So I tend to lean towards that one most, but I mix them all in there, and I just kind of tee it up, and then come flower, that's when they get pushed hard. So I do get that little little bit of a tip burn, you know, whatever. And it's a salt scan I approach. So it's fluoroflex Full Tilt cycle. But what I do is I don't give it the full like, you know, I feel like these nutrient manufacturers want you to use, like, a ton of nutrients, so whatever they tell me to use for one gallon, that's what I'm doing in my fat five gallon bucket that probably has four gallons in it. Oh, interesting, yeah. So it's probably, like a four to, you know, a very diluted ratio, which I still get tip burn, which is weird, but it's a very diluted ratio of the full salt, you know, get up.
I suspect that it's because the biology is probably still surviving at that lower dose and delivering those natural nutrients to you. Have a true syngenic approach, yeah, that's what I would consider syngenic, which is, there's probably still minerals being delivered by the microbiology, and then you're adding these chelated minerals as well, right? Because that's the thing about chelated nutrients, is if the plant is uptaking these and chelated meaning they're basically being force fed, right? The plant can take them up readily, because they're attached to an element that is easily absorbed and readily absorbed by the plant, and what will happen is the plant stops releasing sugars to feed the microbes, so that relationship ends. But if you keep the microbiology alive and thriving, and you just add a little bit of chelated nutrients, what's going to happen there? What's the point of diminishing return? What's the dividing line? I don't know. All I know is, your garden Sure looks beautiful doing this style, and you don't ever use the full dosage. Oh, that's so true. Yeah, that's true too. Like,
right now, I've got some, and I'm on week five, and some are still purpling out. I mean, they look beautiful. They're fading out. And could be the temps, but it could also be like that the PK, but they still look good regardless. And I'm probably missing nitrogen on a couple of them, but you know that that's you get when you go different different cultivars. But for the most part, they get fed the same, but I can adjust via top dress. So like, I use the floor effects, Salt. Salt is my main one with, like, Botana care, cow mag, those are my like salt bases. And then I I'll not, I'm not gonna lie. Like, then I'll straight up use like, House and Garden on Week Six with like, their top shooter, which I feel like, plumps up your stuff a little bit more.
You use three different nutrient lines stacked. That's incredible. The
way, it sounds dorky, but it's kind of like, I don't use them, like, religiously. It's like, one week. So, like, you don't eat spaghetti meatballs every day. Speak
for yourself. I am from Chicago. I mean, come on.
I mean, yeah, if you ate an Italian beef every day, just because you definitely have some, like, vitamin and nutrient deficiencies, in my opinion. Like, if you ate ate that every day, you'd be missing out on, like, key vitamins and nutrients. And I feel like that's kind of the same thing with your plant, I guess so. Like, I kind of like to spin it up a little bit here and there, still doing that diluted ratio. And then green girl. So green girl is my organic Hell yeah. So I'll go like, green girl like on Week Six as well, with like flower finisher cap dress like they're bricks. That's like, my basis of my like, my transition tea as well. So I'll throw in like, the green aminos, the I use the earth shine, like, all that, nice,
yeah, we just had them on the show. That's awesome that you're shouting them out.
Yeah, I have their full line. I have their full lineup. And I get, I do get their soils fairly frequently. And if I do use, reuse my soils, which I only do for, like, autos or my veggie garden, like, I use, like, Earth shine, and I still use Earth shine, regardless whether I'm using new stuff. There's, like, that whole thing on the Amazonian rainforest where, like, they have the terra preta, which that guy from Earth shines. His name's Scott. He like, studied that, you know. So I'm like, Dang if he's using this stuff, like from the Amazonian rainforest. Like, why the hell?
Bring it on, baby. I love it. And it's cheap. It's cheap. It's
like, 25 bucks a bag. It's not like, just gonna break your bank.
I think we have a code too. Code grow cast or grow cast podcast, com, slash discounts. We got a code with Green Grow. Good guys over there. Yeah, we had, I think we had Mark from their team on the show, yeah? Mark, yeah. Good stuff, good.
He's the owner, yeah. So, like, so for veg, like, I'll use Royal Gold veg stuff or Pride Lands veg stuff, I'll kind of use them interchangeably. So just top dress, but then, like, like, I said, flour, I use their full line app for, like, teas, and then end feeding. Like, so like, as you're doing salt
lines. I mean, listen, I guess do you get a lot of samples and stuff? Because,
yeah, I mean, but I have, like, I have, like, $500 with Flora flex, like, I paid for it.
You just stocked up. Yeah, yeah, that's smart. That's smart to stock up, but you're using a true stacked line. When I first started growing and wolf man handed me the bayside Garden Supply feed chart. It was a stacked line. It had cutting edge as the base, and then it had these other, you know, cow mag additives and sugar additives and different stuff. And again, I think that for a beginner, it might not be the best to, like, try to make your own mix, but after you have a few grows under your belt, like, you can really get creative and make a special feed and and have some great results with it. So like, stacking a line, which is what it seems like you've done.
Well, yeah, it's kind of like a, I mean, I'm a good cook. In college, I was a bartender, as long as you kind of like, know what each thing does, yeah, and you know you can kind of figure it out to coax results and flavors out of your plant, I think you're going to be okay. Is as long as you kind of know the basis of it, like, in my my industry is dentistry. Like, I always get a kick out of when doctors ask me, like, I do this, this or this. I'm like, chemically, yeah, you can, I'm like, you're wasting money if you do this, this or this, but you can do that. Or, you know, why don't you do this, this or that? It's the same thing with growing. And I think that's why I really, like flocked to it, because it kind of just fits what I know. If I know the baselines of each product, I know, I can use them. Like I said, I don't know the baselines of each microbe that I have. I have every microbe, no demand. But, I mean, I use them all,
yeah? Listen, variety is the spice of life, right? So diversity is too, yeah, exactly. Do you use any if I remember correctly in your post, do you use power? Si,
I do. I have a couple silica, but I use power. Si, probably mostly just because I and I have all three of their products. So the original, the bloom, and then I have their new lush, which, that's another thing that I do, that I probably don't mention at all, is come, like, week three or four, like, right now I do a big top dress of not that, not the fake like the the PGRs, but the real ones, like kelp and alfalfa and stuff like that to really kind of plump up my plants and get some nice results. Yeah, the
tricontinol, or the try cantinol hover. You pronounce that? Yeah, also present in the mammoth P
which I use, which I use every feeding. Like, I'm not gonna lie, even if I'm, like, flushing or, yeah, just, just a couple drops. Like, that's all you need. Like, four, five gallon bucket. I do three drops. That's incredible.
And that's the phosphorus solubilizing bacteria that is so interesting. Again, guys, if you don't follow chi town, Kana, Chica, these results speak for themselves. Your page is beautiful, and really, you put out some beautiful flowers. So that's why I'm so interested in the in the wild recipe you have, let me be honest, like that's you. You have a wild recipe. It's a unique style, and the results speak for themselves. Like I said,
Yes, like I said, I feel like I'm a chef getting different additives every different week or day. Really, it gets you areas where you miss, like, even like pH is like, I'll fluctuate them to like six two to six five. I feel like sometimes, like one week I'll go like six two. Next week, I'll go like six five, just so I can make sure I'm hitting all my notes.

Thank you to blue mat. Thank you to sustainable village. Thank you to Michael box and enjoy those watering systems. Everyone. Now what about senescence? You You mentioned your plants finishing off earlier senescence a big part of your game. How do you deal with the pre harvest stage? So
that's where I go, microbes, and that's where I go, all organic
again. So you basically do syngenic For for the bulking period, yeah.
So like up to, like, week five or seven, depending on how the plants moving. That's when I stop the salts, wow. And then I go straight microbes, sugars, like bricks, and then teas and all that good stuff to finish. So like at the at the end, they have the green grill flower finisher, which is like a powder. So I'll put that on on, like, Week 678, whatever the week is. And then then it starts to dwindle down. It goes straight into, like, more like, micro water, sugar water.
Wow. So you do an organic senescence on the back end?
Yeah. So it's not like a fluff, it's not like, I wouldn't call it a flush, you know, it's, it's still got stuff in it. It's just not salty.
Well, it's, you're letting the microbiology then break down any remaining salts, especially if you didn't overdo it during the bulking. You say that you add a smaller amount during bulking, or a reduced period, so there's, there's likely, there's, there's much less likelihood of of a lockout or too high of salinity, and then you add more microbiology to break it
down. And that's where I tend to get a really nice fade as well. Yeah. Oh, that
makes sense. That makes perfect sense. And then you're relying on the microbes to exchange what the plant needs, allowing it to naturally senesce when it wants to.
And the key to this too is I also, I spent quite a bit of money, and I bought myself a really nice light and a really nice controller, and I also faded out. So like now I do like a sunrise, a sunset, and I go to 1111, hours, like in the back end. Oh, nice. So they kind of fade out to natural, like natural light type of thing.
Now that's an interesting one. I've I've noticed that really helps certain cultivars finish. And I think even Dr Coco said there may be some reason to believe that from like, a scientific perspective, but it's been a thing in the community for community for a long time, which is, I have this long flowering strain, and if you run it on 1212 the whole time, it like never finishes. Essentially, if you switch it to 1113 or have it on 1113 it'll finish properly. I don't know if that's something you've observed as
well. I do. I'm I'll be honest, I'm getting tired of some of this, like, like 1011, 12 week stuff. I try not to run that as much. It's just like, just finished. You know? I mean, it helps because I'm cheap, like, I don't want to be keep paying these com Ed bills that are just ridiculous as well. So the 11 and 13 helps you save money, but I do feel like you get a better finished result than when I first started, and I was just doing 12 and 12, because
that's all I knew. Wow. Okay, so I like it again. Play around with these things, guys. If you have, uh, something that you're inspired by in this episode and you're going to try or or you like, let us know. I do appreciate the nuances to these grow, these growth strategies. So before we wrap it up, what about the dark period? You fade it out. But do you do a dark period before harvest? Or no,
you know, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I'll be 100% honest. It really depends on, like, my backup, my veg backup, so if I have stuff that I just need to plop right in, sometimes I won't. Or it, I mean, it really varies. It just depends on where, if I got a plant that's a monster that needs to throw in a flower, then I won't, or I'll chop it, or whatever the case may be.
Do you see a big difference? Little difference, or you just do it because you like to, I just
do it if I got time. Yeah, like, I haven't saw much of a difference with, like, the ice thing. I haven't saw much of a difference with anything, if anything, I once it's done, it's done, and I just want to chop it. Because, I mean, we've all been there where you have something, they're like, oh shit, I went an extra week. I've got bud rot. Yeah, that's you know what I mean. So sometimes it's like, Don't count your chips before, you know your chickens before they hatch, type of thing. Like, I just want to get this done. Sometimes I
totally agree with that, but I will, you're right. I will do some of those end of flower tricks if the schedule allows,
if the schedule allows, and the bud looks right. Some of these things are so fucking huge and fat, like, one bud is, like, wet. You're like, this fucking thing's like, a half an ounce as it is, yeah, you know what? Wait. You're like, I don't these things are so fat mac daddy. And, you know, anything could happen where, like, you might have like that, but rot from the inside out that you didn't even see. So sometimes you're just like, damn, I just need to chop this thing up and get that get it hanging, get this environment right. Been
there, especially in a humid basement, Yeah, gotta know your environment. Got to know your environment, especially for different strains. It's so strain specific. Let's talk about that. Let's get into I mean, I picked out a couple of strains just looking through your page, looking for ones. That looked extra impressive or had unique shapes and structures and things like that. So I have a little list here, but I know you wanted to talk about one that you were super impressed by. I think you referred to it earlier. Talk to me about the Bahama Berry. I think this is soul fire.
Yeah, yeah. I always get a kick my favorite thing like, I'm kind of newer to this, you know, I'm older, so I remember as a kid, like, you didn't know kind of weed you getting. As a kid, it was just like, oh, whatever you got. And, oh, this is a hydroponic Afghan skunk, and that's all you got. And now it's like, everyone's got, this is lemon cherry gelato. This is this. And very rarely, I find very rarely, do you pick up those flavors. Like, sometimes, when someone says it's a cream, you can get that creamy aftertaste. Sometimes you get this, you know, I almost never get that, like a sour diesel, yeah, it smells like, you know, O'Hare Airport or whatever. But this one the Bahama Berry, I love because it actually is strawberries, like you literally get that strawberry flavor out of it. It's raging strawberries. And not only that, the color profile is like a hot pink. I want to grow off with that strain from from Soul fire. And I mean, it's and I've grown it a couple times now, and I barely do that. You know what I mean, where I grow it again and again. But it's just so nice that you actually get a really strong strawberry turf in the front and in the back. It's not like, you get a little bit of this and it's weed, you know, it's strawberry.
That is amazing. Not the most common Terp, I would say, too, no.
And it's that's probably, like, one of my favorites recently, like, that's just been what they say. It is, it is. And I appreciate that, and it's unique. I would
love to get soul fire on the show do a breeder feature. We have not spoken to anyone from Soul fire, so, oh my god, you guys should. He's like, one
of the nicest dudes. I met him in Chicago. Him and exotic Mike big Simmy came to the Schomburg Convention Center, and I met him, and I was like, totally like, being like, a dorky fan girl.
I can hear your voice right now, yeah. So
I, like, totally dorky. I'm like, I'm like, my mom's like, I'm, like, my mom's like, where are you going? Like, I'm going to the Schoenberg convention center so I could go hang out with these guys and check them, just beat them. You know, they seem like, cool dudes. We're all, like, the same age. You know, they've been doing it a lot longer than I have, but I was just so excited. I gave the joints of my Bahama berry because I was so proud of it. Oh, that's
cool. That's why it's important to get to these events. You know what? I mean, I love meeting these people in person and just shaking hands with fans. And fans and breeders. And yeah, I like that. That's good stuff. Yeah, for sure. What else about this Bahama Berry? Though? Amazing color, amazing profile. How did it grow? Tell
me more about it. So it's not the heaviest, yeah, it's not the heaviest yielder. But here's it's like, always quantity and quality. I feel like very rarely Can you have both. You know, it's like anything in life, you can have better, faster, cheaper, you can only have to be can of all three, type of thing. And that's sometimes I find that with cannabis as well. Like, you can have, like, super high trichomes and great looking fat buds, but then, like, the flavor is not there and vice versa. So I feel like you get that a lot in cannabis. Very rare we do hit all three. So, yeah, it's, it's not the heaviest dealer, like, I've never got that, but it's really trichome drenched. It's beautiful, beautiful pink buds most of the time. Sometimes you get some green ones. The Terps are just there, like, every time they're there. So that, to me, is the keys. Like, I, you know what I mean? Like, I've had stuff where I'm like, Hey guys, I'm gonna drink this. No, a girl, a girl competition. I have all my friends over, and I'm like, which one? And they're like, there's no flavor in this. But like, I'm like, Damn, that one looks the best too. You know what I mean?
Yeah, it's true. That is true. I like what you said about checking all the boxes too, because it makes me think, like, which 1am I most readily willing to sacrifice? Yeah, for a lot of people, appearance is the least important. Like, how many times have you heard like, I just wanted to reek and get me high that? That's probably one that I think a lot of. I think that yield, depending on your goals, is actually a really one to let go of. Sometimes a facility can't do a low yielding plant, but if you're a home grower and you really don't need all that much supply, you might let yield go for that, like, perfect strain, right? You know what? I mean. It's just interesting, interesting to think about that. But yeah, I saw, I saw, what was the other one? That shocked me on your page was because I like the cross so much. It was Oreo cake by Devil driver. Tell me about that one.
Oh, yeah, so that's another one. Oh, my God, like, so I've have a bunch of clear water packs in my I think that's a Clearwater Tiki madman collab, but I have three or four packs of clear water, and I've never really gotten into them. And I finally pop them every single freaking clear water I've popped banger every time, nice. It's just crazy. You get those big fat juicy buds and good Terps so that that that one's a little bit more in that like floral, perfumey type of terpene profile, nice, thick buds drenched in trichomes, decent, yield, beautiful, fade, nice color. So that one's been a favorite lately. It's just finished sharing, quite honestly, I had a banger, another one from the I had a purple flavonoid from COVID. Your water, just a complete Nutter banger. And they have like, a war, like a warheads or warrior or something like that. Another one.
I just like this cross quite a bit. Oh, you said it was a collab. Okay? That makes sense that it's a collab, because the devil, the devil driver, is a Sunday driver cross, right?
Yeah, it's a tiki madman thing. I think he's out of Michigan.
Yep. That's wonderful. What does this one come out like it
comes so everyone always talks shit about Oreos. They're like Oreos. You don't like cardboard Terps. I mean, I've never had an Oreo cross that was, like, lacking in terpene profile. I love it. I mean, if anything, all my Oreos are like, floral, Berry ish,
Oh, interesting. I've definitely got that sweet, yeah, I've got that sweet side of Oreos before, I agree with that. So,
I mean, I've never, I've never grown pure Oreos, I'll be honest, but I've, I've always had like, an Oreos cross, and they always, I always get like a, like a, like a nice floral berry ish cross with it. It's, it's really a really nice, sweet flavor. Actually, it's not bad at all, like, and it's in it, it's potent, you know, it's not faint. Like, there's some breeders where I grow and, like, everyone's like, Oh, this guy's a fucking banger. This is great. And I'm like, I try their stuff. And you're just like, it looks amazing in pictures, but, like, there's not much there flavor wise, right? That's the thing. I need to start paying some lab to test all this stuff. It's like, one of those things for a home grower, you really don't care, yeah, right. But I'd be curious to get all that stuff tested. Yeah, somebody, some of these things, you know, they got to be testing and like, the two to 3% 4% 5% terpene profile, because it's just, like, some of them are just killer, because you're like, god damn it, my fucking carbon filtering keeping up,
I love it. That's great. Yeah, that sounds like an awesome cross. And the Oreos does really lend across as well. That's what, that's what people seem to
that seems to be the consensus. Well, yeah, we'll have
to get you some of our new Oreo femmes. Do you run femmes? Right? You run femmes and regs? Yeah,
right. We run both. And I run rise of riches, stuff, that peach quake, I turned out.
Oh yeah, your peach quake was great. I almost forgot about that. Yeah, yeah.
Gummy flavor. Like, not gummy, like gummy, but like bubble gum flavor.
Ooh, interesting. Yeah, we get some of that, like Laffy Taffy, bubble gum, fake candy coming out of that side. I like that. I like that a lot. Speaking of sweet or maybe not, you're growing a ROM Scotty, like a Romulan cross. Oh, yeah. Now that's a longer flower strain, right?
It looks like it'll probably finish in nine weeks. Oh, from what I'm seeing, I just picked, I literally just bought some more Romulan last week. I want to, I want a gift card at work. So I was like, oh, boy, why not spend it on more seeds that I don't need. But yeah, the Romulans I find are very floral, so they're really high in terpenes. And I find anything Romulan to be very floral, which I like that, like, little floral flavor myself for, like, nighttime sleeping type of stuff. So, like, I find that I get pretty good results with that stuff. I mean, it's really nice flavor. You know what? I mean, it doesn't smell like weed. Yeah? That murcerine, like, like, this is weed type of flavor. It's very if you have in your backyard, you could probably just think it's a flower
very palatable and very natural, you're right. The little, yeah, super smooth, yeah, the geranium in there, we get more towards that sweeter flower, yeah, but I agree, the lavender, the lentil, that seems to be the key to like relaxation. For me, that's good shit. I like that coming out of the Romulan cross to biscotti, right? That's got to be a biscotti cross.
Oh yeah, those turned out beautiful. I mean, right now, I got one fading out beautifully, but a little early, I think I got a little bit of a deficiency, but I'm not worried about
it. So wait, all these are great, but you're not keeping any of them. That's the consensus. That's what you're
telling me. Unfortunately, that's not what I do. I mean, I've got a whole nother. I got a whole nother lineup of seeds that I popped. I mean, I've got all these ABC Seed Company crosses I just popped. I just popped a bunch of grow off stuff, some more garlic biscotti. So I that's one thing I haven't gotten into a lot, is those GMO crosses. Oh yeah, I'm not, like, a big garlicky Oh,
that's my thing. I like to funk. I do. So
I'm getting into those fine, like, I like, do, don't do a lot of cheese. I don't do a lot of I like the floral candy. I mean, I'm getting a little gassy here and there, but now, now I'm doing, like, a lot of GMO stuff this next round,
nice. That's gonna be good. That's gonna that's gonna treat you well. So let's just say, like in recent memory, maybe since we spoke last, what is the one knockout strain that you really do, really does make you question not taking cuts. Which one would you like recommend to the listener that you were just blown away by and you still think about,
yeah, I have to say it's literally a cross between the clear water, purple flavonoid. It's kind of like grape drink. You know, when you think like, what do you think of the flavors? And you think of that like, purple flavonoid, like it sounds, it tastes the way it sounds. Yes. And then I've just finished curing a belief truffle gasm. Oh, interesting, yeah, has a really interesting, like, profile to it as well. Like, it starts out like a little like, gassy in the front, but then you get this, like, weird, like, kind of floral, earthy, it's, it's interesting is that a truffle cake cross? It's a white truffle cross, yeah, white truffle cross, that's right. And it's just coated. I like when the buds are less Leafy and it's just bud, yeah,
right, that's always good. Just bust in bud, weight covered in frost, the truffle gasm, yeah. Love seed number 2.53, cross to white truffle. Yeah,
wow, yeah. His stuff has been pretty, pretty. I mean, like, I said clear water. There's so many, there's so many good readers. Like, that's what I do, too. I try to do well known stuff at the same time. I'm doing unknown, like, not, I wouldn't say unknown, but not as well known stuff at the same time. Yeah,
you're right that because that's, that's a, I would consider this a hype strain.
Yeah, I would probably consider that a hype strain. But like, I like to do hype and non hype at the same time. So like that, Billy Holiday that you were commenting on my post, oh
yeah, that one had a really interesting structure. That one looked totally different. It
was amazing. And that's from a guy who's not as well known. It's called Xeno Seed Company, not very well known. Man, what a fcking banger. One out of one. Yeah,
I was actually looking at that page because, because I saw the interesting structure on that one. And, you know, when you see that different bud shape, right, when it looks so unique like that, it really leaps out at me. And
that thing got mauled by a rabbit. I mean, that was I that's like the trials and tribulations of being a grower, like I have a deep window on a baby rabbit in there, so I'm gonna go fish the thing out, grabbed it by the neck, threw it in a bucket. It's a fucking thing jumped out of the bucket, and it was in my basement for five days till I could wait till this Amazon trap to arrive. What? And yeah, this summer, and it was like literally mauling my fucking cannabis plants, like eating them, chopping down big leaf, like, you know, main, main bud structure, like branches and stuff. And I just couldn't get it, like, I shut the door. Finally, I was able to figure out where it was. I didn't want to shut it in the room, but, like, my dog doesn't seem fazed by it. But then I finally caught it, because, like, hiding, I mean, everywhere I looked, it was like, there's like, and there's not like, good spots to hide in my basement either, but it was
hiding spots you literally had a wild rabbit loose in your hero room for,
yeah, for like, almost a week, and it like, took down, like, it took down a lot of really good blood sites at Billie Holiday. You can't even imagine how pissed off I was whenever it came out, like, super banging. And I'm like, I only got two buds out of this thing. Oh,
my God. That is hilarious that I Okay. That was the that was the story of the year, right there. That is nuts. You would literally were. It was Wabbit season. Yeah.
My dad's like, just shoot it. Just shoot it. And I'm like, in your own basement, Chicago, everyone in Chicago gets mice. They're basically dead, a winner. But, like, I don't even know how the hell they get in, because my house is pretty new, but you mean, yeah, I've got like, a couple mice, and, like, they get stuck in a trap and, you know, their legs broken. So you're like, shit.
I gotta put it out of its misery. Well, if you deal with your pests anywhere near the way you deal with your male plants, I know it's gonna be it's gonna be trouble. There was a while you were making those posts where you were like, samurai sword, chopping up mail plan, blowing away shopping
Dollar Tree, and bought balloons. And I, like, released this mail, and it started literally toward flying towards the police station.
You tied a balloon to the mail stock and then click right.
I bought, I bought these, like, blue balloons for, like, dollar sugar. It's a boy. And I, like, I literally tied this thing to it. These, like, this male plant. I released it in the sky.
Oh, my God, that's hilarious. Maybe it'll pollinate their, their
super tiny. I tested it. You know what? I mean? No, that's
hilarious. I like those posts again on the Instagram page. I don't see those as much anymore. I don't know if there's not coming up in my feed, but they always made me
laugh. I got really lucky this year. I think I only had like, three or four males, whereas past years I've had, like, sausage fest.
Oh, gotta get more fems in there. Yeah, we'll hook you up. We'll hook you up. Okay, damn, we're already at the back end of this episode. One more thing you're toying with here that I want to talk about. Are you playing with electro culture? Now, before you write me, listener, I encourage experimentation this. This has come up on the show before. Are you? Are you super charging the ground with electro culture?
It? Well, it's not that. It's a if you take a copper coil or a top a copper rod, so I have both, like, just copper pipe, copper coils, whatever, when you stick them in your garden, supposedly, the electric culture, like the the ion exchange, is supposed to supercharge your plants in. I'm not kidding it. I've been getting like I said, Either I'm getting really lucky with genetics, like, one out of one, five out of fives with bangers, or this, you know, variables really working. My tomato yield compared to my mother's was blow like, and we had the same plants. Like, we shared the same plants, I crush hers, like, my my cannabis yield. Like, that's what I'm saying. Like, those that Billy Holiday plant, that that Oreo cake, Tiki madman cross. Like, all those had my copper pipe in them. Wow.
Okay, so I'm gonna try this out myself, just because it's so easy to test, right?
Yeah, if you're using a bamboo pole, just take copper wire and wrap it around the bamboo pole.
This is interesting. I'm already looking this up right now further. So you tried electro culture, and you feel like you saw results, and you're going to do it
again. Oh yeah. I mean, I'm continually going to do it again, like, I just started it this year. You know, the more and more I read, I'm like, You know what, I have all these copper pipes in my house and wires and all that. Like, why not? What do I have to lose? You know what? I mean, you're still sticking a bamboo stake or or two in your plants regardless. Why not try it? I like that. I like that attitude. Yeah, so I mean, either, like I said, it could be the genetics, it could be both, it could be everything, could be nothing, but I've been getting really lucky this year.
I love it. That's cool. I'm always encouraging experimentation, and I love that you're playing around with that electroculture. What's next? What's next on the menu? Any other experiments or stuff you're popping or just Same old, same old
type? Yeah, just a couple more. Grow offs going. Couple more. I got a ton of testers I always promise people to do. So I'm doing a grow off, right again. Soul fire grow off. Solo cup. Soul fire grow off. That's a really big thing going on right now. Like, there's like, 350 people doing it worldwide. It's kind of a big, a big, like, $10,000 per grand prize type of thing. So got that going on and then just continuously growing now, moving everything indoors, you know, everything now is indoor season, and just going to keep moving on and experimenting and trying new things. I mean, that's all we can
do. I love it. What's the most exciting cross that you just popped you're most excited
about? I did a couple ABC seed co he's out of Michigan, which, again, like that similar type of terroir of Chicago. I did, like a black cherry pie Cross, which some of the pictures of, like, the F ones were looking amazing. These are F twos, and then also, like, a monkey bread. Like, if you've seen any of those monkey bread crosses, he has, like, I mean, it's disgusting, like, there's no leaf, it's just trichome.
I love that. The monkey Yeah, sounds familiar, yeah.
So I'm like, I'm excited to try. It's a monkey monkey bread, butter, Cookie cross or No, bread and butter. Bread and butter cross, I think, is what it's called. So popped some of those testers to try out, which I've had. I mean, I get good luck with everybody's seeds, but I'll be honest, like it's Illinois, Michigan, Oklahoma, Colorado, like those type of ones I tend to have the best luck
with. Yeah, I like that. I like selecting your seed stock based on location, especially when you incorporate outdoor. Very interesting way that you do incorporate outdoor into your grow. Like I said, I just think of a very unique growth style. And I like to speak to growers who are always progressing and still relatively new to this game. I mean, you're doing really well all the accolades. You're a much better grower than I was, you know, three years into my career. I mean, stop everything that comes out of your garden looks amazing. I wish my last round looks like your last round. So just keep doing what you're doing and keep us up to date. As always, we love having you on grow cast. And where can people find
you? They can find me at the Chi town Cana Chica on Instagram. I also just started a Twitter account, and then my backup is Chai town, Kana Chica too. Because, as you and I know, Jordan, Instagram hates us. It's
