we were like, pre like, checking to make sure, and then it didn't work. And then I was like, Oh, I think it'll be fine, though. But I was like, You know what? Like, I think it is too. It's okay. So then we go into our little tour see things like, the last minute, things like I said, and then we went to a coffee shop and to get coffee before getting our stuff back and, like, reevaluating, and our flight had gotten delayed to like, eight and then to 2am or something like that. And so we spent like, over an hour in that coffee shop trying to reload our delta app, because we're, like, skyrocket members, and we were trying to rebook our flight. And I talked to my friend in Kansas, and was like, Hey, we might fly to Kansas. Like, can you come get us? Like, we might, like, we were just trying to come up with anything we could, because the only thing we could find was, like, a layover in Kansas. So we tried to book that, but delta, obviously was crashed, so it wouldn't work. So then, um, we just, I mean, we were just gonna stick it out with our 2am flight and just try to find a hotel stand. And then our flight got canceled. And I, I'm very like for the plot. I don't really care that much like Jaden, my friend, she's more of like the warrior, but for some reason, she was just like, I don't think she could believe it. And I was like, Oh, my God, we're stuck in New York. Like, where do we go? We don't have anywhere to stay. Like, yeah, I don't. It's not like we can sleep on the street. It's New York City. Like, I don't know, she was surprised that I was freaked out about it, but it was just kind of one of those things where it's like, I can't afford to stay here that long. Yeah. So we ended up getting a place, like, her mom is a member of, like, Hilton or something. So we ended up hotel hopping. And then, as you know, like, hotels usually take, like, people who are 25 and up, and that was one of them. So we had to laugh. So we kind of had to, like, fib a little bit and say that her mom got stuck and was coming to get us and stay with us. And so we had to, like, check in online and tell them that so we were able to, like, stay there, yeah. And then that night, we had Taco Bell, because we couldn't, like, it's not, like, I don't know we were thinking of, we didn't know how long we were gonna be stuck there, so we didn't know, like, how much more money we were gonna spend. So Taco Bell was, like, the safe. And then the next day, like, we just kind of did a lot of walking, like we tried to, like, keep our expenses, like, sure, whatever, and then just kind of explored the city. I feel like we, like to say we became locals because we had, like, literally been through low key trauma of getting stuck there and then having to, like, map out our wig go, like, hotel hopping. Like, a lot of people ended up coming up to us, asking us for direction. So we thought we were, like, local. So it was the next day, like we got up at like 6am for our flight, and we ended up not leaving until like, middle of the day, because our flight kept getting delayed again. So it was just a lot of back and forth. We called and asked if they could pay for our hotel, and when we were still in New York, and they said, No, that felt is not reliable for that. And so it was just kind of like, I don't know it was our first time flying somewhere without our parents really, like, kind of doing, like, the whole grown up thing. So we didn't know that we needed, like, push and fight for it. But yeah, the worker was like, very odd. She was like, No, yeah, you can't get refunded. But it's, it's not like we meant cities got there, you know for sure. So, um, what was it? Obviously, since, like, I know that delta was going through a lot, I'm sure that they were dealing with a lot of stuff, but how did you feel with, like, their response and everything. So initially, um, I was the one who called to, like, rebook our flights and find a different flight. And the first guy that I spoke to was, I think he seems like ash or Ashton or something. He was the sweetest ever, like, I knew that they were going through a hard time, and I know, like, customer service, like, it's a hard, like, line at work to the end, yeah, and so I was, he was very nice because I was very nice in return. I think that had a lot to do with it. But I was like, the day went on, like I was on hold for like, four hours. So, yeah, I was literally, like, we were strolling through New York City with our bags, like, trying up on the other hotel while I was on the phone, like I was Jaden is directionally challenged, and so I had to, like, be on the phone while, like, trying to figure out where our next hotel was. And so it was just, like, stressful. And then the last lady we talked to about getting a refund, like she wasn't mean about it. She's very nice, but she was like, No, we can't. And so we were just confused because we, I don't know. It doesn't make any sense, yeah, but they were overall, they were nice about it, until they said that they couldn't give us money that really didn't make us happy. But I think, like, it's getting better. I know jaden's mom. She's big traveler, so she's kind of helping work everything out. And, like, she booked the hotel, so she's the one who, like, needs to get reimbursed. Yeah, Jaden mentioned that they reimbursed her for the hotel, so that was good. Yeah, they also mentioned they're gonna reimburse us for food and give us 100 bucks, which I never got, 100 bucks in my account. But maybe, I don't know, maybe, maybe I just didn't check and I did get it, but I feel like 100 bucks, I wouldn't know. You know, yeah, 100 bucks is 100 bucks is a lot. Yeah, for a college kid, I would say. So my the article that I'm working on is about this, and Biden's administration, like recently announced that they're requiring airlines now to issue full cash refunds on significant delays and cancelations. So I was just wondering, like, how you feel about that, given the circumstances that you went through in all of Yeah, I could see it being, like, hard on the airline companies, because I know adults will lost a lot of money from that and like, was it necessarily their fault? No, I think, like, it was more, from what I've gathered, it was more like, obviously, on Microsoft's end, like, and they couldn't control it, but at the same time, like, the what going through it, I was like, I shouldn't be like, like, they I shouldn't be liable for this, because it wasn't my mistake. Like, we would have made our flight if we got there, like, yeah, if our flight was on time, like, we would have made, like, it wasn't our fault. We got stuck in New York for two more days, and we didn't, like, account for that in our budget. So I feel like it's fair to the people, because that, like, no one should be expecting, like, people shouldn't be expecting the worst to happen anytime they go somewhere. Like, they shouldn't account like, an extra, like, 400 or 600 or however many dollars it is to stay and, like, feed yourself. And so I think, like, I don't know, I agree with it. I think that, like, they should refund people for like, major delays, because it's not, it's not our fault that things get delayed. But I also see how it's hard for the companies to want to do that, because sometimes it's not their fault that it gets too late either, yeah. But overall, I kind of support it, yeah. Well, thank you so much. I know it was quick, but I really appreciate you talking to me today. I haven't really, like, I didn't know anyone personally that was affected by it, so I appreciate, like, learning all these stories. And it sounded like, even though y'all were stuck in New York, like pretty good place to be stuck in, you still have things to do. So, oh yeah, it was a dream. Like it was probably the way that, like, a movie would go on. It was giving Monte Carlo, yeah.
