Coming meetings?
upcoming meeting? No.
We're on page seven of the agenda. items listed. Number one is requesting commission approval of the appointment of Rihanna or summary to the position of Director of the Public Health Division Health Human and Veterans Services.
Thank you. That a AirPods mishap sorry. No, you're good. Doctor Who will say Director of Health Officer, Department of Health Human and veteran services, Michigan. ought to be in front of you today to our candidate for Director of our public health division. Public health is our largest and most complex division and for some time we've had real challenges trying to penetrate. For thinking in the division, we finally found a candidate who can lead without an order so it traductor Osorio with our department since July of 2022, she started agile as a project consultant working directly with then Director Malia Jordan, when I came to the department very quickly realized that she had a combination of a particular set of skills a the ability to work with diverse groups of people, and be the ability to come to a complex solution to complex problems quickly and then see them through and anybody who's worked in a county government in any bureaucracy knows that that combination of skills is extremely rare, which is why when we built out our special programs unit, the unit that is focused on building out these new innovative projects, she was one of our first hires for their recognizing her capacity for leadership. She's moved on to the associate director roles number two in the division as of January 2 of this year, and then, when we realized we needed to make a change in leadership, she took over as interim in the process. She was also coming up to the defense of her doctoral thesis, which she successfully defended two weeks ago at the University of Michigan in learning health systems transformation. I had the privilege of being in attendance and watching all of the work that she's done in her dissertation, she's able to execute in real time here in the division. Six weeks, had been leading as interim. We've already seen really, really important changes, but then also in the infrastructure and I've had several program leaders come to me independently and say, We're just really excited that Briana is here. So when it came time to hire a full time permanent replacement, it was really quite clear that Briana was going to be our front runner and we posted the interview. But it was clear that just her knowledge of of this department and the intricacies here, her rapport with the staff capacity to lead and really complex and challenging circumstances made her far and away the choice for us. So just really excited to be able to to offer this opportunity to her to present her with that, doctor
to really hear that. Thank everyone. I want to thank Mr. Evans and the administration and Department of Health Human veteran services as well as my Public Health Division team that I've been working along with since January. Just really excited to be able and very honored to be able to serve Wayne County and its residents. My family has definitely recited and served this community for generations. So it's just been an awesome opportunity and a blessing to be able to step in and be the leader of the public health division. So thank you.

is it Sharon Sexton?
One helper with a microphone please.
Thank you. Thank you honorable commissioners. My name is Sharon Elizabeth Sexton. And for those of you who don't know me, I am chair of the black historic sights committee which operates out of the Detroit Historical Museum and I am also a member of the Detroit historic designation board which operates out of the Detroit City Council. I'm a member of many other things, but right now I don't have time to tell you. So anyhow, I came to invite you to the third annual Juneteenth community celebration, which is taking place in Detroit at the old camp Ward site. If you are not familiar with the camp Board site, that is where the black soldiers for the Civil War train because they were not allowed to go to Fort Wayne because they were black. Anyhow, this particular site right now is a park and I am in the process of trying to get it designated not only as a local historic landmark, but also a National Historic Landmark because this is the only site in America. I repeat in America that has an open site where the Colored Troops train for the Civil War. So this is a third annual celebration for Juneteenth. We're going to have storytellers we're going to have descendants of civil war veterans. We're going to have all the black historic sites are at Black historic groups in the city participate in this. We hope to have this as an annual event. It's the day before Well, yeah, the day before Father's Day. So it's the Saturday before father's day and we hope to have this as an annual event. I do have little cards for you. My printer ran out when ran out right before I came here. So I have cards for you to come and enjoy Juneteenth with us.
Thank you staff who quit those cars and pass them out to us and where's the location of?
Okay, yeah, I know you don't know where camp board is. But you know where the Coleman Young Community Center is on Robert Bradby drive and Shane, it's the park right across the street. It's right next to what used to be Duffield elementary school now it's the bunch elementary school and Delphi I mean, there's also a historic marker right on the premises which somebody is trying to steal by the way, it's already been knocked off the the the the holder so if somebody is trying to steal another one of our black historic sites, markers, so before it's stolen, come on out and take a look at the site because we would like your your assistance in getting it designated whatever. Wayne County needs to have a designated for historic site and I'd like to also recognize one of my committee members, Anthony Bogdan, who is helping to advertise the event. So thank you,
thank you.
Do we have another card, Pam?
No, that was the only card I do have some emails though.
And our book commissioners, I live in District. I live in district nine Plymouth Township of Western Wayne County. Although it may take many years for me to personally see the benefit of increased transit funding. I hope you all support the countywide transit measure, as they say the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is right now. Even Western Wayne County will benefit from increased transit. It will enable new forms of connectedness between the city and the suburbs, unlocking job opportunities as well as access to music, cultural and sports. Even opportunities for us all. In D. It will start to bind the greater metropolitan area further together complementing a measure in Oakland as well as positioning the region to further connect to Washtenaw County. Please put your support behind countywide transit. Thank you, Andrew, lie Jack. Do have another Hello, my name is James board. I am a resident of Plymouth right here in Wayne County. I would have very much like to be there in person but I started a new job and connected son. Today I wanted to speak out in support of expanded bus services throughout Wayne County. As I said I started a new job and I have to drive for work. But when I leave today, I will be stuck in traffic way longer than necessary because too many other people are forced to drive without other public transportation options. This is bad for my pocket because of the excess fuel use sitting in idle. Michigan has the highest insurance rates in the entire country because of excessive driving and lack of options. Last level opponents to bus expansion will cite costs but the Detroit Metro Region is one of the most expensive in the area. It's one of the most expensive in the area to live in. And like the insurance rates is because of over dependence on cars fuel, new tires, repairs, maintenance, insurance, and $100 parking during the events in the city. If my property tax goes up $200 But I use the bus to go to Tigers games it has paid for itself if my insurance goes down $50 a month I will save money. We are paying higher costs from not having access to a county countywide bus service. As I said I am from Plymouth and we are just as much of a suburb as Ann Arbor as much as Detroit. It would be a great benefit to everyone, especially people without access to cars to have integrated service in Ann Arbor and Plymouth canton in Northville. Wayne is now the only county with partial smart service and is unique in the United States for having a segregated service. Let's end this outdated policy and move for leaving the racism of the past behind us. Thank you for your time and service. That was from J four.
It Anyway putting things in the chat
that concludes public comments. One more time public comments on the telephone and the chambers or on Zoom. Public comments three times public comments. Alright, thank you so much next item reconsideration there are none remarks by members remarks by members. You backs by members. Well, I will say one thing before I go to the Vice Chair Paula Mara. Commissioners are McLeod Coleman and Martha Scott are at the National Organization of black county officials Economic Development Conference and they are getting honored today. For their service to the public. I will be joining them after this meeting. So I just want to congratulate them publicly and I'll do it again at our next meeting while they're here for their outstanding service to the community. Vice Chair palmier
Thank you Madam Chair. I just want to offer a brief congratulations and thank you to all of those who were involved in the renovation of the Michigan central station. I think that is probably the most exciting dedication of this generation. I will be watching it on television with pride and really look forward to sing it someday in person. It looks absolutely gorgeous. Thank you Madam Chair.
Thank you Vice Chair and it is going to be amazing to see that and to see Diana Ross come back to Detroit for the first time in many years. So that'll be exciting as well. And I don't want to not have the gentleman that typed his email not be read so if you could be going back to public comments, I apologize but I want to make sure that it is rented a record go ahead Pam
My name is Ryan class. I am a 45 year old individual who was born with a developmental disability disability Spinal Bifida. I have been an advocate for people with varying disabilities for almost 19 years. My journey into disability advocacy began with mass transit in the metro Detroit area. I've also been riding the smart bus service for over 20 years. There have been some great improvements in transit infrastructure in the area, but there are also some concerns living in West lamb for 12 years now I have used the naked meals transit service a bus service much like smart the Detroit services always asked that I scheduled my rides 48 hours in advance. That's fine. In the last two years with naked males transit I've been asked to schedule my rides two weeks in advance rather than 48 hours. I've asked drivers and dispatchers alike why but haven't received a clear answer. I have my thoughts about why, but it's not appropriate or responsible for me to speculate. The other reason I speak today is to talk about the cities that are not associated with the smart bus system. years ago one city voted on a ballot measure that was to discontinue their participation with the smart bus service. As a person with a disability I found that to be very limiting for citizens of that city. I'm told the city bus system drives a certain distance to the city but not far at all. To me this limits opportunities for individuals who want to travel to the city for fun and leisure or work. Speaking to city officials, they have given me limited information information on their implemented bus service. It's unfortunate that your audio wasn't working correctly at the commission meeting today. I was looking forward to speaking and being her community transitions trainer at Wayne State University Developmental Disabilities Institute. This is his credentials office entire city of Westland Westland disability advocate Advocacy Committee, Public Policy Committee, disability caucus.
Thank you and we do apologize that we had technical difficulties so we could not hear you but I understand that you could hear us. Hopefully we'll have it resolved by our next meeting. Commissioner Anderson Oh, you are marked by member you're good. Okay. Our remarks by members Rebecca remarks by members. Anyone else? Anyone else? All right, sir. Motion to adjourn. Oh, all right. Thank you. Thank you all.
