If you've been listening to Nice Jewish Books for a while, you've heard me thank the Association of Jewish libraries, or AJL, an organization that serves as the leading authority on Judaic librarianship. I've served on committees and on the board and council, and I go to the conference almost every year, I'm proud to have AJL sponsor the Nice Jewish books podcast. AJL sponsors another podcast about Jewish literature, the Book of Life, hosted by my friend and mentor, Heidi Rabinowitz. She focuses on books for children, or kidlit. When I saw Heidi at the 2024 AJL conference in San Diego, she cornered me to do a mutual interview. We ended up recording in my car, which made an excellent sound booth, and together we hatched a plan to interview people at the conference about their emotional support books. It turns out that doing on the spot interviews was a bit of a challenge. If we spoke inside, we had lots of excited conference attendee voices in the background, and if we spoke outside, there was traffic and airplane noise, so I apologize for the sound levels, but there's still excellent nuggets behind the noise. You'll hear me and Heidi, and then you'll hear a variety of voices sharing their Jewish books that are especially meaningful to them. Look at the show notes to see the cute cartoon that inspired this question, and to find a list of books that are mentioned in this episode. Listeners, what are your Jewish emotional support books? Heidi and I would love to know reach us through our websites. Mine is at jewishlibraries.org/niceJewishbooks. And Heidi is at bookoflifepodcast com. So here we go with our initial conversation.
