Today, we're back with another breeder feature, but a first time breeder for the show. He's an old friend of mine now for several years. He is a grow cast member, also a trophy winner at the first annual, I believe, cultivators cup today, our guest is none other than Jeremy from elevated STL, what's up, Jeremy, how you doing? Man, hey,
I'm doing real good. Thank you. Young, and I definitely appreciate it. How you doing?
Good, man, good. It's our pleasure to have you on did I get that right? You know, we've been friends for several years now. I think I met you at the first cultivators Cup, where you won prettiest flower. I think was the trophy you took home. Do I have that
right? Yep, that was the at the hideout, or the hideaway, the hideaway, that's right, yeah, and that was the cut of Dante's Inferno that I turned in. I actually grabbed, I think, two packs when that dropped, and I planned on popping all of them, but you know how it is, sometimes I have room for a couple of plants, so I popped two seeds. One of them didn't make it to flower, and the other one was just amazing and beautiful, and just my keeper cut right?
Oh, it certainly was beautiful, man. You want you won that trophy. But let me give your let me give your backstory a little bit before we we hear what brought you on your incredible breeding journey. Again, I met Jeremy at the cultivators cup. He's a breeder. He gave me some of his flower, particularly the strain cold case that we're going to be talking about today. Basically, I describe it as the best Tropicana cookies that I've never had. It's got that kind of trop ish feel, but it's not quite as obnoxious. It's a little more balanced. And I think it's just like I said, kind of the best version that I never had before. So I was impressed by that flower. Fast forward to the next year. You were gracious enough to come out again. We got to smoke. And then flash forward again a few more years, to the Midwest growers symposium just the other week or just the other month, whenever that was and I run across your booth, and I'm taking a look at your stuff, and I'm just going, Man, you've been killing it over the past four or five years. You've just been doing your thing down in Missouri, quietly creating some mad, mad heat. Honestly, some of the best flower I've seen in Missouri for all the events that I've been there, like your stuff, is always up there as the best flower on the trip. You know what I mean? Thank you. So yeah, man, thank you for being an awesome grow cast community member. And let me throw it to you. Mm. What was your story, bringing you into cannabis, and then bringing you into starting to breed for
yourself? Oh, man. Well, you know, just like everybody else, I started smoking at a young age, and I just kind of fell in love with the plant. And everybody, you know, I would get in trouble for it. And I just knew that it I knew better at a young age, that it was an amazing plant and had lots of beneficial effects and and I just fell in love with the plant, basically, at a young age. So in your teens, yeah, in my teens, 1314, and I popped my first seed. I think it was in 2008 No, it wasn't my first seed. I popped seeds before that. It was my first successful grow. Sure, it's an outdoor grow in 2008 I think it was in my backyard. I had a street light that was above it, so half the plant stayed in veg, the whole Hell yeah, brother, half the plant, half the plant flowered and and I ended up harvesting something. So it was, I consider that my first successful but definitely nothing like you would expect something. It was mid grade at best
that homegrown mids taste way better than street mids, though. Dude, you're like, No, that's great. So you were growing. I mean, Geez, that you're coming up on 20 years here in just a few short years. Yeah, you've been growing for a long time. When did you try your hand at breeding? I
tried my hand at breeding. Probably, you know, how everybody does you get accidental pollinations. But I never would consider myself a breeder for that, just I learned that it was possible for me to do at that point, like, kind of a light bulb kind of thing. You know what? I mean? Yeah. And I always had a passion for genetics, because if you can change one thing in your grow to take you to the next level. I've always learned that that's genetics. If you can get the best genetics you can, it's going to definitely take you to the next level. So genetics was always once I started popping those seeds and finding upper echelon genetics, like people that actually put in the time and effort to create things meaningful. Once I found those, it was just like, This is what I want to do. This is my passion. I love putting two things together and seeing what comes out and just everything about it. And
when did you create elevated STL. When was the brand born? I created
elevated STL in 2020 so, right before we met, yeah, right before we met. So, yeah, it was 2020 and I just, I don't know why I really started it. It was just kind of a thing, you know, it just kind of happened. I never really imagined 10 years ago or something, I would be where I'm at right now. But I'm just so blessed and that I get to do what I love, it's amazing. I get to meet some of the best people in the world, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. That's
great, man. What a great story. So just really quickly, to throw in a quick strain review, I've actually got a bud of cold case sitting right in front of me right now as we're recording this. I can't believe I still have this saved. It's probably like a point 4.5 bud nice. And I just took a whiff of it. It's actually changed a little bit since I got it from you, but you gave me two jars. Oh, no, no, no, you actually gave me more than that. I apologize. You gave me four jars. Symposium, yes, at the symposium, you gave me four jars, but two of them. I still have one, but of each in front of me, and the two are, one is the cold case, which, again, tastes like, almost like, a carbonated version of trop cookies. Imagine trop cookies like mixed with, like haritos, or like some sort of carbonated Fanta, or maybe I've never had phago, but it's like, how I imagine phago Smells
right? It has a sweet it's sweeter than, yes, than the trop. It has a sweet, sweetness to it that's very different. Yes, when I give it to people, I try to have somebody explain to me what it smells like and tastes like, and it's almost indescribable to most people. It's
definitely multi layered. I'll give you that I'm smelling like four or five things. You know what? I mean? Yeah, and it's gorgeous, and we can talk more about cold case. Then you also gave me this freaking bag burner, dude, what is the deal with this bag burner. Did you breathe? Did you breed bag burner?
I did breed the bag burner. God, same time as the cold case. So that was from our very first drop that I did that we reversed the apples and bananas. So that's Gary Payton crossed with apples and bananas. Oh, it makes a lot. Lot of sense, very, very strong. And my wife actually won third or fourth place at the St Louis cannabis Expo with that cut. That
doesn't surprise me, if that's your type of terpene, which for me, it is. I put that in the I put that in the very broad category of Kemi. More specifically, it's like black spray paint, or even asphalt dude, like, when you smoke this bag burner, I think it's similar to like that. It's like an ancient Roman torture of, like, hot asphalt in the mouth, or something. The taste of that asphalt burnout burnt rubber Tokyo Drift Gary. And that comes from the Gary Payton. I know that Gary Payton. I know that Gary Payton has been in there that is so prolific on the aftertaste and the mouth feel that it's literally, like I said, like a hot Roman oil style execution in the best possible way. Okay, so not being clear. Jeremy, yeah,
it's definitely nasty, for sure. And I think I only popped four seeds to find that one. Also, I don't do really huge, big hunts, you know, I don't have a big, huge facility or a whole bunch of room. Everything I do is fairly small scale, so I try to find stuff in in smaller hunts. So not always do I am i able, obviously, to find what I'm looking for, but sometimes I do, and sometimes there are definitely winners in there. Oh yeah, I
want to talk about about those things that you're hunting for. But speaking of this, um, just popping a few seeds. Let's say you get a 10 pack and you're just popping two or four, like you said, yeah. Do you have any sort of voodoo ritual or strategy when it comes to picking seeds, do you try to feel out the energy Reiki now? Do you go for bigger seeds? Do you like to see well developed seeds? What do you think about that?
I actually do that you mentioned that I I just kind of feel, you know what? I heard that before. For a reason. It's almost like they talk to me when I open them like I look at all of them and my eye is drawn to the first one, I'll grab that, and then automatically I'll be and it's never really the size or the shape or the stripes or anything. It's just what my eye is automatically drawn to. Right at that particular time, I've
heard multiple people say that Farmer John said the same thing. He like, he divines it. And I'm like, Listen, you can't argue with the results and argue with the man's results. It works. What can I say? So I know it's sometimes hard to, like, say exactly in one kind of sentence or whatever, but what are you hunting for what are your values and kind of principles as a breeder? What is it that you're looking to accomplish with your selections and crosses?
Well, I definitely look for strong veg. I have my eye on the plants as as soon as the seedlings are popping so I look, I don't really like short, compact plants. They don't really typically fit in my system. I like to run a SCROG. And I found those plants are typically a little bit leather. So I look for a plant that's a little bit stretchier that I can knock the fan leaves off, and it looks like I completely stripped the whole plant. So I look for a little bit stretchier of a plant, and at least when I'm in veg, early flower. And then obviously number one is terpenes, and what I'm expecting for and within the cross because it could be the most beautiful plant in the world, or exactly the structure I'm looking for. Bag appeal is just insane. If it doesn't have the flavors or the terpenes, then I have no issues with just scrapping that. Well,
I've noticed your strains all have a lot of different flavors. Is there any a specific terpene profile you're looking for? Or just anything outstanding?
Anything outstanding, I would say I look for stuff that's not really the typical just candy or just gas or anything. I like to try to put together something like you said, with some nuances and and back end flavors where you're kind of guessing, what does that taste like. Or, you know, I look for, definitely for different stuff, but I love gas and just funky, kind different, different terms,
man, I that's what I'm realizing between those four you gave me, it was definitely all colors of the rainbow. Are there any specific effects you're looking for and follow up. Are there any medical conditions you or your loved ones that drives
your breeding? Yeah, definitely. I need something that's going to let me know when I smoked. I don't want to think that's gonna get me too crazy, because I do have anxiety and peace. CSD and different, a few different medical conditions which I do smoke to treat. And, yeah, so I look for more of the sedative, heavier, just I want to know when I smoke. Basically, that's
a good way to put it. I think that's a really interesting phrase. Yes, all your strains are a little more. They're either balanced or sedative, right? Even the cold case, which feels more zippy, is not really particularly uplifting. It's just nice and balanced. It's a good all day smoke, daytime, nighttime, anytime. It's like pizza bagels, man, anytime is a good time. That's definitely
my all day smoke that pretty much my whole world revolves around that, really? Yeah, well, let's
go there. There's a lot I want to talk to you about, including style and grow tips and stuff. But, I mean, we've talked about it so much. Let's talk about this cold case. What is the lineage? Again,
the lineage on cold cases, I reversed the apples and bananas and pollinated the Tropicana cherry from the relentless genetics cut and that's what we came up with the cold case. Oh, so
it was femme pollination. Yep. Wow, cool. Very cool. What can you tell me about those two parents that stood out?
Well, definitely the Tropicana cherry, the color, the bag appeal, the the loud citrus, big yields, huge buds, and then the apples and bananas was more of the the structure that I look for, the taller, stretchier plants, tighter buds, a little bit sweeter of Terps and a little more heavy on the gas. So I feel like, when I put those together and found that specific cut, it was a beautiful marriage of the two.
You said the Tropicana color? Was it like a dark, dark purple? Yeah,
it's like a magenta, real dark red, depending on the temps, like, she'll come out, like, kind of a brighter red or a darker red, depending on the temperature.
Your cold case does not seem to have that color. Did that trait not pass down? Or was it just the time of year?
Not so much. I think the structure and the like, the bud structure leans more towards the apples and bananas. Yeah,
I can see that, man, I love apples and bananas. That is a classic strain that I remember. Yeah, and I was smoking in humble you know what I mean?
Yeah, seems like it was just here yesterday, and now it's 10 years old or something.
Then largely gone. It's not like I see it anymore, you know. So I'm glad you're repping that one. Yep, I'm smelling it again. I'm not smelling the cherries. I'm smelling apples and bananas and trop like crazy. They just blend really it's really appealing, dude, it is. And like I said, a lot of trop can be obnoxious when a an aroma or a flavor is that pronounced. You can taste it on your banger after you dab it. You can smell it in your grinder. The next time you grind differently, it better be appealing. Otherwise it's gonna get it's gonna get really annoying, really fast.
You know, like lemon, anything. I have a super Lemon Haze that it'll just my grinder smells like lemon. Like pipe smells everything, just lemon for a week.
Yeah, really outstanding job. And I'm not surprised that those are the two. Those are the two parents. Now that you're saying that, I'm really smelling those notes, is there any cold case left? Let me ask that is
not. Oh, it's a cold case the way I do it. See, I breed all my plants. I breed small. I probably veg for two to three weeks before I flip to pollinate. So I don't end up with a whole lot of seeds. Like I said, I'm limited on space, so I usually end up to 30 to 80 packs of any given cross that I make. Everything's numbered, and I keep that exclusive for anybody that's able to get in on the drops. So, yeah, I
wonder if anyone's sitting on those, if you're sitting on
somebody somewhere, yeah, right.
So what is available that has cold case in it? Is that a thing?
Right now I'm getting ready to drop the murder weapon, which is basically a cold case back cross back to Tropicana, cherry,
nice. That's going to be great. Is that an rbx? Is that a feminized drop too? Yes, yeah. Only deal with feminized drops now. As
of right now, everything I've done up to date is fems. It's awesome. As of right now, I'm working on crossing a lot of stuff back to regular stock, just to stabilize everything. Because I feel like, once you feminize something and cross it and feminize them, it just the feminization just is something like I feel. Like, that's when you run into issues. So sure
introducing a little bit of regular, genetic, non feminized, yeah,
that doesn't hurt anything at all. And especially, maybe even find something crazy in there too.
That's really cool. So murder weapon, it's essentially an rbx Cold Case. Cross back to Tropicana cherry. So you can probably expect to see a lot like the fino you used, and then probably a lot more that lean, maybe more that cherry side, maybe more that drop side. Yeah. Where can people follow you on Instagram to keep in touch for this drop? I know there's people that are interested
right now, definitely you can follow us on Instagram. We are elevated. STL, 2.0 it's our second account, and we're also on Facebook at elevated sto nice Facebook, lending to your thing. Yeah, it's hard to be on Facebook sometimes, but I've kind of once I lost my first account on Instagram, I kind of dialed back from Instagram and went on back over to Facebook, and then you gotta be kind of working the Instagram back again. So, yeah,
you gotta be on a mall. It's, it's crazy out there, yeah, let me ask you this, though I'm looking cold case this, uh, murder weapon, murder ape, snub nose, another favorite of mine. Are you a true crime fan? Or is the wife a true crime fan?
I kind of am the the wife is, my daughter is. Where do these names come from? They just come from within me. I guess, see, I'm Hold on, yeah, they just come from within. I i don't really expand myself or watch a whole lot of other different people. And, like, I want to do my own thing. I don't want it to be a fruity like, everybody's naming their stuff after the desserts. I just try to be a little different. And, you know, I just live in my small world, and I come out every once in a while and crazy stuff comes with it sometime.
Listen, man, that's cool. I thought for sure you're gonna be like, Oh, I love, you know, first 48 or something. That's cool, though they're all good names. Cold Case is particularly catchy, dude. It's a good name for a good strain, and now it's gone. So everybody has mad FOMO, and they're gonna be checking out any future drops that you do with it. That's how genetics work, by the way,
absolutely, it's like heart rate that is very similar. Definitely, everything that I've been popping and everything that goes through testing has looked very similar to that original. Oh, yeah, that's good stuff. Well,
when you're working with s ones, that's the other good thing is you're going to get a little more uniformity on that generation, you know. So I picked up a pack of your snub nose, and we've now, we've now given that to some of our favorite people in the world. Jeremy, you gave me like, a six pack of FEM I think, at that Midwest grower symposium. And since I've seen you there, I had the pleasure to give two or three of them to Chrome six. Christina, friend of the show, friend of membership, soon to be guest on the show. So she's down in Oklahoma. Insane hash producer. Seed to solventless, the best of the best, and she's gonna pop those for her home grill. Awesome. And then also for the legendary Farmer John. Shout out to Farmer John. Grow Cast team member and just legend of the game. He picked one. He just like we were talking about earlier. He divined one of your seeds out of that pack. And now I'm left with two, I believe, yeah. So three to Christina, and then one to John. And now I'm left with two, and we're all going to grow those together and pop those along. So awesome. That's really exciting. So, so that's your subnose, which is, oh, my God, forgive me. I'm gonna, I'm gonna have to remember now, because I just talked it up so much. It's Gary Payton cross to permanent worker. Right, right. Yeah, yes, off the top of my dome. I remember that because I love those two strains. Man, like now you're speaking my language. When I said earlier, for those who like that type of noxious chemist, spray paint, Terp. That's me. I like those Terps. I was talking about myself. What's your expectation of the snub nose? Have you seen those grown out by other people? A lot.
What can we expect? Those are very typically, easy to grow. Everything I've seen from them or easy to grow. Pretty uniform. Lots of nice color. They look like just nasty, knotted up buds at the end, real nasty looking and obnoxious Terps, like you would imagine, definitely. Oh man, I cannot wait. What about the yield on on those. Can we expect? I would say average to heavy, big fat, dense buds like the Gary has, yeah, she definitely dense. Yeah, for
sure. I'm excited for those, man. I'm super, super excited for those, to see what you guys get out of those. Did you pop that permanent marker that you used from seed?
Nope, that was from a clone. That I got. Oh yeah, most everything. Well, I can't say most everything, but at least 70% of everything I had was from clone, sure,
working with tried and true stuff. You know, that's the
way to go. And and I find my up sometimes along the way, and I just, like I said, I just use what I like. If it's something that I would like, I feel like other people might like it too, like I don't chase anything, any specific flavors or Terps or anything like that. And before I even work with anything, I typically will grow it out and run it, flower it at least two to three times. Maybe work with it for about a year before I even considered pollinating anything

Let's take a little bit of a detour that's a good segue. How do you grow? How do you grow right now? And how have you grown in the past?
Oh, man, well, I've pretty much stuck to one style. Pretty much from the beginning, I've always tried to be as organic as possible. I pretty much make my own living soil out of cocoa. So everything's organic.
Man, I didn't know you did a cocoa based living soil. That's awesome. I'm about to grow with one myself. A SD, microbes makes it Yeah,
you kind of get the best of both sides, because I like hitting dry backs. I feel like dry backs are the one of the least talked about, the most important aspects of growing. I really like to hit dry backs, pretty good. And I feel like Coco does that better than almost anything damn
living soil cocoa mix. When you say it's a living soil cocoa mix is your entire peat, fraction, that entire 33% just cocoa.
Yeah? It's
not even a blend, no,
it's just cocoa and perlite. And then I'm amending it, right? And
then you get your compost and your castings and all your good stuff, yeah, oh, man, that's like, that's kind of. Just like the SD microbes, they use a Verma compost, like a super specialized worm compost, but that's a cocoa living soil, and it's no different than peat, really. It's just changes, like you said, changes the water holding capacity. Make sure you buffer it all that. Yeah, but what do you when do you like to dry back? When are your favorite times to dry back?
If I'm in Veg, I'm not looking to dry back every day, but if I'm in light veg flower, I'm looking to dry back every single day. So I'm smaller pots. What? Yep, it's crazy,
dude. Your quality is so good and your yield is high. For smaller pots, your plants aren't small.
I think the biggest pot I've been running as a three gallon just because, more recently, I've been reusing my soil. For a while. I was putting it in the garden bed outside, and it got full, so I was just like, I just start reusing it. But, yeah, I've just been reusing it, and just been running two or three gallon pots and just amazing, crazy results. That's
really cool, man, super, super cool. And you've grown that way this whole time, basically from the start,
pretty much, yeah, I mean, I've tweaked a few things here and there, but as far as, like, nutrients that I've used in the medium that I use, and everything like that, it's pretty much been the same. I'll add a something here and there, like some great white or some photo plus, or something like that here. Yeah, basically, the meat and potatoes of the everything has been the same,
wow. And who taught you this style? Or did you learn this from, like, um, Mr. Canock, or anything like that?
No, well, I have watched him. I've watched lots of other people, and I think it's just kind of a hybrid of a collection of a lot of different people's styles and a lot of different people's opinions. I think I've probably took other people's skills and put them together to make them into one, you know, make them my own. That's the way to do it. That's the way you do it, you know, because that what that you got to make it work for you? Yes, I totally
agree. I think if you're a beginner, there's nothing wrong with just copying your buddy's style. But as soon as you get, like, a run or two under your belt, like you said, what we all end up doing is basically like blending together a bunch of different philosophies and seeing what works for us, and then come and then that kind of totals up into our unique philosophy, yeah,
and I've learned a lot from both you and rich, and I've taken a lot from that also, oh, thank you with my growing so thank you guys for that. Also,
that's great, dude. Thank you. Yeah, I appreciate that. Any other specific things you do in your grow beside your grow style, meaning end of harvest tricks, or a certain dry and cure style that you really stand behind like, what would you say is another kind of secret weapon in your grow for high quality cannabis,
I would say the biggest secret weapon is consistency. You know, with my harvest, I don't do anything special. I harvested the dark cycle right before lights come on and I hang dry for, you know, around 10 days. I don't ever get two weeks out of it, even if it's in a 6060, I try to get as close as to the 6060, as possible, and and hang for at least 10 days.
No, that's good. That's a good, nice, slow and low, dry, but you're right about consistency. Man, I know it's not the it's not necessarily the spiciest answer, but it's so true. It's about discipline and consistency. Plants like consistency. I think sometimes people get the wrong idea, because we do certain controlled stressors, right? Like a good dry back, or, like, you know, maybe need to super crop to make it a certain way. But like, that doesn't mean that all stress is good. Like, aside from a few of those really specific cases, plants like super, super consistent, and plants are usually like, to be left alone. It's also good to, like, breathe on them and talk to them and stuff. Yeah, they don't want to be moved or shook around or had or whoops ever. Yeah, watering schedule being off. They don't want any of that stuff. They want it consistent. Yeah, that's true. Do you do any auto watering? Or are you all hand water? Are you powered by OCD only, yeah,
OCD, I have to lift. I have to lift every single pot. So I'm that guy. I might be lifting two, 300 pots in one day, just to just to hand water them. And I know I need to get away from that. But like I said, I've been doing the same thing for a long time and and I do like it, and it works, so it's not stupid. Sure does work. Sure does work. Man. Okay, so we discussed the cold case,
which I'm about to include in this joint in front of me right now, if I can actually get it
rolling, a cold case right now, I'm jealous. Oh, man.
I got, I got, like a bowl and a half in front of me. I'm gonna save her. The murder weapon, which was the Cold Case cross that we are excited about dropping. Make sure to follow elevated STL, 2.0 and then the snub nose, which is a little grow cast. Grow along is the sub snub nose available. We still do have packs of those. Okay, well, you can grow along with us. If there's any members listening to this, please grab a pack. If you're interested in that pack, go ahead and grab it from Jeremy, and I'll let you guys know in the discord and in the Patreon when I pop the snub nose. Awesome. Yeah. And then I also have written down here, murder ape. Talk to me about murder ape, what is this? Is this related to the murder weapon? I
assume the secret side of just the psychopath.
Yeah. What's the lineage on the murder ape? The
murder eight is from the previous drop, from the one that we're getting ready to do. That is from the same drop as the snub nose. That is permanent marker crossed with Gorilla glued
underscore, oh, nice, fantastic. What do you like about that one? I like
about that one. It has those real nasty Chem spray paint marker Terps, but it also has the Gorilla Glue brought in like a pine undertone to it, and it's really enjoyable. Pine
is underrated. Now I feel Yeah, have you seen a lot of pine out there? I certainly haven't. No,
nope, it's something that's going away, and everybody will be looking for it again, just like this hour. So, yeah,
that's true. That's true. No, up here in Illinois, pine weed When We Were Young would be really good. We'd get, like, we called them Christmas tree buds. We never knew what strain names were, dude, yeah, we had Christmas right? Green, green and red. Smelled like pine, and that was, like, the good stuff. What was Missouri? Have you been in Missouri? Your whole
life, I've been in Illinois and Missouri, so I've kind of bounced back and forth between the st louis line between the two. And
did you have a similar experience? Like, for instance, I didn't get the roadkill skunk personally. People talk about this roadkill skunk from way back when I certainly saw skunky stuff in Cali, but not never when I was a kid. Our best weed was like Christmas tree weed, or maybe cat piss. What
was like your classic weed? That was same exact experience. It was the cat piss or the Christmas tree bud that you would get around this time of year, totally. But I did get some really good roadkill skunk I was probably about 14 or 15, my buddy got a bud from his dad, and we smoked it before school in my house, and when I came home from school, it smelled like we had just smoked. And I was like, oh my, but, yeah, that was my one experience with the road kill skunk. And I did.
It was ridiculous. Some dad weed, right there. It was
Dad weed. I guess it was the people that I feel like. I guess it was the generation above me that was with the roadkill. So
that's why I never really got good stuff, man, how far we've come, how far we've come and how much we've lost? Yeah? Okay, cool. So yeah, man, you've got a lot of good stuff available. I'm excited about what you're doing
really hard. We put in a lot of work, like, just put our head down and don't listen to a lot of stuff, and don't follow a lot of other hype, different things, what everybody's talking about. We just work hard and try to put out quality for anybody that's interested. Oh,
man, Well, I'm certainly interested after seeing the flower. And you're right. You've said that a few times now, about kind of keeping your head down. And I think one of the reasons you keep your head down is so you don't get this
is going to sound a little bit heady,
or meta or whatever, but when you're kind of an artist as a breeder. You don't necessarily want influence in your head, right? Even if it's just like things you hear people say Not, not necessarily like things you're just gonna like follow blindly. But even just things you hear people say they like wind up in your brain. You don't necessarily want those things you kind of you want to work in a vacuum sometimes, because that's how true creativity is expressed.
Yes, yes. I agree with that 1,000%
I've heard you kind of allude to that with this idea of like, we try to keep our head down, we try to not listen to a lot of outside chatter. I think that's kind of what you're expressing there. And I completely agree, from a broadcaster perspective and a cannabis media guy perspective, I completely agree with that. Yeah. I don't know if that got a little left turn for the audience, but I thought that was pretty thought that was pretty deep. That's
good stuff. I was an artist. I've done tattoos. I've drawn since I was a little kid. My kids are artistic. They can draw very well, so Wow. And I kind of translate that like it is my canvas. And. That it's just blank and I can make it whatever I want.
I totally agree it is art. Breeding is definitely an art. If broadcasting is an art, then breeding isn't art, trust me, dude, yeah, so that's cool, yeah, that makes a lot of sense. The tattoo thing makes a ton of sense. Yeah, it's all coming together.
So do all my own graphics, like the packaging. I've designed all the packaging, but hours and hours and hours and into the design and it, it's a lot of work. I never like I said. I never thought I would be where I'm at 10 years ago,
the packaging is really nice. Farmer John said, when I when I was showing him your stuff, he was like, Oh, I like this packaging. This is really nice. Yeah. So jumping back a little bit. Excuse my ADD brain, but we talked about the Dantes at the top of the show, and how you won prettiest flower with that stunner cut that you had. Did you ever end up using that in any of your crosses? Not
yet. Oh, wow. Is definitely gonna make her way. And like I said, I'll run something for a year or so before I actually decide that's what I want. I know it might sound crazy and not always, do I, but I try to run something for a year or so before I decide what in my mind, what I want to pollinate it with, or what I want to cross it to. Yeah,
clearly you're taking your time with that one man that was a really pretty fino. So I look forward to using that in one of your lines. I think you could probably have that lend its frost density, definitely. And yeah,
well, it's not the loudest thing in the world, but it definitely like a great, weird hashy Terps to it. And it's different also. So yeah, she's definitely in the back of my mind. I'm just waiting for the perfect like, Yes, that. I really want to see how those two turn out together,
blend together, yeah and yeah, it did smell fantastic. It's just when you're putting it next to things like the cold case and the bag burner, two of the most the back burner, specifically dude, one of the most unique aromas I've smelled all year, nice. I like that. I'm going top 320, 24 in the aroma category. I travel a lot. I smell a lot of bugs like I have the pleasure, the absolute pleasure. Thanks to you amazing audience members and fans to try a lot of different flowers around. And I'll say, on this show, you know, 2023 the peach cakes cut Nicola like this. You know what I mean? I'll be like, definitely top three. And I have to say, when it comes to unique aromas, that bag burner is top three, easy. It's death by asphalt. Man, that's all. That's the only way I can put it. Remember that? I like that. Yeah, if you ever use it in cross I think, I think death by asphalt for sure.
Flavored death by asphalt.
Great stuff, man, I'm excited for the for the snub nose. So you've got these pollinations under your belt. You've got a bunch of stock. What are you looking forward to in the future? I know you have this current pollination that you're that you're going to have available soon. But what about after that? Is there anything you're like, really looking to expound, expand out into, or any flavor profiles you'd like to bring back, or anything like that?
Oh, man, I guess everybody would like to bring that skunk back. But I don't know if that's going to happen. But I don't know if anybody even, really even knows what they're trying to bring back. Because, like I said, I've only smoked it probably once, but you
like that one? Yeah, you found a skunky one you wouldn't be opposed to,
yeah, for sure. I like those heavy I like the ones that that are going to tell on you when they're in your pocket. Like, yeah, he's definitely got weed on here, but I'll be working with, like I said, I'm kind of sending everything to rag, not everything, but I'm kind of stabilizing a few things that have been feminized a few times, just to keep them stable and but after that, I will be probably the next release will be the murder eight pollination,
yeah. Oh, wow. What's made you decided already on the murder eight being the pollen donor?
Oh, man, it's just a standout, like the cold case, you know, like, when you that's the one you know that that that when you just give it to nobody has, like, I don't really care for that profile, because I've had some things that I thought were phenomenal, but people like, I don't really care for that profile. It's nice, it stinks. But I, I think the cold case in the murder ape, nobody is like, I don't really care for that profile. It's, it's one of it's another one of those ones. It's just, yeah,
I haven't tried the murder ape. So this is exciting me. And I know what you're saying. When you have a flavor, it's it's the opposite of trop, which is funny, because there's trop, in cold case, the opposite what I said about trop, which is, if you have a complex enough aroma, and it's not too off putting it becomes very appealing, like it's appealing. Anybody like, right? And that's what I'm smelling and now smoking with this cold case, it's just, it's, I would definitely describe it as highly appealing. It's just really, tastes really, really good.
Yeah, the flavor translates to the smoke.
Yeah, it smells like, exactly smokes like it smells, for sure, and
that's what I look for also, I don't like those ones that'll deceive you. Like, oh man, this smells so good, but you smoke it and it smokes, like, cardboard. Like, Oh, what happened? Yeah,
for sure. I don't mind a little change, but it's got to be, you're right, it's got to be good. And ideally, it's, it's similar. I love when it translates, yeah. And you're right. This is tasting a lot like it smells that is very, very true. It's nuts that I got to smoke this on air. I, like, kind of forgot that was there until recently, and then I don't know I smoked during the show, but it's there. And here we go, and it's a good strain, man. What can I say we should trade a few cuts, my friend. We'll get you like our B, O, B, like our banana Oreo blizzard or something. Yeah, take something from your stable. That'll be fun.
Amazing. I still the pancake the flapjacks. What was that? Is that, what you popped? No, I got a cut from you. Oh, yeah. It's starting to take off already. That
thing is beautiful. It's, was that mogros, fires, rhinos, flapjacks, I believe. Yeah, yeah, good. Like
it has the load spacing that I like it. So looks like she's a little stretchy. That's
from zido. We'll get you one of these keeper cuts that Rich is sitting on. And, yeah, man, I'm glad that you're that you're working with the working with the stock you're working with, and following the show. That's very cool. So what do we got here? Geez, 45 minutes flew by. Any future plans? You talk about the murder rate pollination, that sounds great. We're gonna look forward to that again, one more time at elevated STL, 2.0 on Instagram, yes, sir. Any tips for home breeders? Maybe somebody wants to do a reversal, and they're thinking about picking up, yeah, yeah. Maybe they want to do a little reversal their own and do like an STS spray, or maybe they're thinking about grabbing Colloidal Silver. Any any tips for people who are Pheno hunting and or breeding at home? Yep,
I would say, don't let anybody discourage you. Don't tell anybody that you have to pop a certain amount of seeds to find a keeper. I would say, go for it. It's fun, even if you're not looking to do it as a profession or something. To just to just try it. If it's something you're interested in, you should definitely try it. It's it's not that hard. I use STS. I found that works the best for me. And another tip for using STS, where I was messing up at first, I would spray too much. You don't want to spray very much once, maybe twice. Knows the trick
really, you have worse results when you spray it more. Yep, people have that question. The bottle says, I think the instructions sometimes say to spray it once. And people just don't believe it. They're impatient.
No, I sprayed the week before flower, and then I spray another seven days. Like all of them are different. I'll spray a week before flower, and then I'll spray the day that I flip, and then that's it. I found, if I keep spraying into flower, I'll get great clusters, like, they'll look like male plants, but the the sacks are typically sterile, like, there's nothing in them. Wow, that's not and I'll always get pollen. Like they always won't reverse real hard, like, if I don't spray a lot, but they will always reverse, always, you know, I've never had one that didn't.
I was just gonna say, is it kind of because some people have trouble with certain cultivars. You find some are harder to reverse. You're saying a lot of times it might be the case that they're spraying too much, possibly, yeah, because that's the thing you know. Like, when you hit a male to a female plant, like a regular on regular action, you're gonna get a lot of seeds. Maybe some you'll yield more than others, but you're gonna end up with a fuck ton of seeds, like more than you know what to do. But with reversing that's not always the case, not
only the case. And the thing I found to combat that was a low rate I always and another reason why it takes me a little bit longer, I always collect my pollen. I don't just put I don't just do open pollination. I'll always collect my pollen and hand pollinate all my plants I found. Oh, really, yes, yeah, I probably will the amount of seeds. Oh, my
God, okay, we gotta we this is gonna be the rest of the show. How do you collect the pollen? A lot of people have different strategies to catch it or get it off of the reverse plant. How do you collect your
pond? Well, I'll you, typically I do. I'll put foil, like sheets of foil on the box, like, if I'm if I'm trying to catch it, but typically, I'll cut my plant and just harvest the whole thing and dry it out and just screen it. Yeah. That's great. Screen all the pollen out. So
you finish the let the plant finish, dry it out and and screen it.
Yeah. So now you got your pollen. You bottle
it up. Do you use rice at all, or is it just pollen?
I don't use rice at all typically, because I'm not storing the pollen for very long term. Okay, I'm collecting my pollen, then that's done. Because I only have one area to do all this breeding in. I can't really do it all at one time. So I'll collect my pollen that'll go into the refrigerator or the freezer. Then I'll start my cuts that are getting ready to get pollinated and and like I said, I'll grow them for two three weeks. I'm not growing really big plants. I'll grow them for two or three weeks, flipping. I'm pollinating, usually the fourth or fifth week. Yeah,
yeah. Because you, mostly, you don't work with a ton of long flowering sativas. Do you? No,
no, sir. I try to keep everything, everything I have is 10 weeks or less, just because that's my style, like my I can't have anything that runs 12 weeks just because it doesn't work. I have a perpetual grow, and it just has to fit my system. So some plants are are just canceled out, just because they just don't work in the system. Sometimes,
yeah, absolutely, I know what you mean, and I think a lot of home growers do appreciate that as well, but, but that's great, man. That's fantastic. And then you're applying them with a paint brush, yeah. And you're just getting in there and hand pollinating each one, just
getting in there and hand pollinating each one, turning the fans off, and just taking my time, like I don't rush anything. I I enjoy every bit of it and take my time, and I'll be in there for hours pollinating sometimes, and and I found with all this pollinating, like, I have flower rooms, I've never really had so much drift like, I might find a seed here and there in my flower room, but I don't really have talent drift issues. Like, because I know that's a lot of people's issues. Like, I don't want to breed, I don't want to mess with pollen because, yeah, I'm going to have pounds flying over. I haven't really had issues, never. I love
to hear that. That's very encouraging, because you're right home. Growers don't want to ruin their principal crop with seeds. Yeah, they think that they're handling like nitroglycerin. But like you said, if you just turn off the fans. And you maybe, maybe you pollinate one little branch and you spray it with water when you're done. And, yeah, yeah, it really works. People
pollinate and then put a plastic bag over it for you know what I mean, for just a day or two.
Oh, yeah, yeah. That's a good call. I've seen that too, protect it like that. Yeah, it's not, it's not too, too complicated. That's a really good point. We love it, man, we love you. Sharing the information like this. One more final question. Let's say you're not gonna pollinate and you're gonna instead store that pollen. How do you store your pollen? How do you store
your seeds? If it's going long term, that's automatically into the freezer, like I'll make sure my pollens dry, I'll screen it, and then I'll get rid of all the plant material. I'll leave it in the bottom of the screen. I'll put some silica, those moisture absorbing packs on the screen, not in the pollen, just on the screen. Let it sit for a couple of days, get it real dry, scrape it up and and I found it last up to two years or so in the freezer. Whoa, you've used
two year old, frozen pollen. Yeah, man, and you had good it's
not real as viable as it was. But seeds, yeah, at that point it start, you're slipping and cooling, if it's even gonna but, yeah, definitely possible. Still
Alive, that's good stuff. And then what about seeds? You do you keep those in the fridge? Or do you just keep those in a cool dry place,
typically a cool dry place, just because I'm not storing seeds for 234, years. You know what I mean? If I'm able, if I have a pack that I don't plan on popping, or if I'm just putting in the vault, sure that'll go either into the refrigerator the freezer, very
nice. So last note on this cold case, as the joint goes out in my hand, is the effect is insane, like drop cookies doesn't slap the way that the the drop side of of this does. This thing is so strong, it's just a nice balanced stone to where you get into what you were doing and you're satisfied from the high without even realizing it. So you kind of let the joint go out in your hand, instead of needing to finish it to the last drop, you only
smoke it all the way because of the taste, not because you need to.
That's a great way to put it, yeah, really, really strong effect on this thing. Man, I love it. Not a day ruiner at all. So listen, this was a great episode. Flew by these strain reviews were great. You know, we we covered everything from your story to how you grow. We talked about cold case, we talked about murder weapon, we talked about murder ape, we talked about the snub nose grow along. Got into some breeding tips. I mean, this just about covered everything, man, we really appreciate you coming on the show. Tell my listeners where they can find you. Obviously we mentioned at. Elevated STL, 2.0 on Instagram. Is that the best place to go? Or is there a website as well? Where can they find you?
Definitely Instagram, if you're trying to get a hold of me directly the fastest. But we also do have a website. It's just elevated stl.com, that's where you can find all of our seeds along with some other people's stuff. Also, is
that where they go to buy? Yep, straight to the website to buy. And, I mean, I can pull it up right now. The snub nose from earlier is available. What else did we mention that's available up there? At the time of this recording,
we got dirty cookies, which is the forum cut of Girl Scout Cookies across the Gary Payton. And I think that's it, other than the new drop that's coming out with the murder weapon, lemon killer Midwest. Og I'm excited about the Midwest OG that's OG Kush breath crossed with cushmans. Oh, fantastic.
