Episode 10: Road House (1989) - Scene-By-Scene Breakdown
12:25PM Jan 19, 2023
Welcome to Just curious media. This is let's talk movies. And I'm Jason Connell on the show today I'm joined by a special guest, Sal Rodriguez.
Thank you, Jason.
You're welcome. Well, you are back my friend for your fifth episode. Wow. Five out of 10. I mean, as far as covering movies goes, that's a pretty good run.
Yeah, yeah. I say that's good. Is there a who ranks number two who's had the second most
games? Mostly? Ryan Baisley. Has come in second with two. Nice. All right. And I have three other great guests that did want each,
anybody who does more than one or two or three, I gotta keep my edge, you know?
Yeah, exactly. Well, this is really exciting for me, because this is the 10th episode of the 80s. So it kind of completes the loop that I started when I started the show. Well, it was picking one movie from each year of the 80s, which is harder to do than you think so. Yeah. Because it's like, oh, man, those three movies came out that year, or blah, blah, blah. Well, I was up against that a lot. And I was always going with movies that I found inside of me that I wanted to watch again, or I was super excited by I could do it again recast and still love those movies just as much. But I went with the ones that I did. And I'm just gonna run down this list leading up to the one we're doing tonight and include the year just to educate the viewer in the audience, the listener, whomever. Yeah, so started with Episode One and American Werewolf in London 1981, of which you join me for that initial episode, which was amazing. Then there was Wall Street 1987 to live and die in LA 1985 The Fly 1986 also co hosted by yourself. Oh, yeah, that came up. Fast Times at Ridgemont High 1982 Risky Business 1983, the Terminator 1984, Sal Rodriguez, back. Diehard 1988, and American Gigolo 1980. And you were also on that one. And that was the last one. In 2020, I had eight episodes come out. And in 2021. So far, I've just had the one. And during that time, actually moved from the West Coast to the East Coast, set up a new studio, so many other things going on with our other shows. Let's talk Cobra Kai, that's a crime. And this show just unfortunately, does kind of stalled out for a little bit, just sat there waiting for me to come back and do this 10 Glorious episode, and then open this show up to not just seen by scene breakdowns, which I love. So they just take so much time. Yeah. And so they're not going to be just the only thing this podcast does. It'll be there. It's definitely a staple. But there's going to be shorter content to Sure. You know, like interviews with different filmmakers, actors, could be from some of these movies, we might just pick a topic like great Scorsese films, or let's talk about Paul Thomas Anderson movies, or let's go down the Quentin Tarantino rabbit hole and just have discussions. And some of that will be shorter content and then sprinkle in some of these great movies. I may still tackle 70s and the 90s and do the scene by scene breakdowns. But I understand what the bandwidth that I have that I have to be selective.
I think it's good to have different length content. Because yeah, my favorite time to listen to podcasting is when I drive. Yeah. And I have longer trips and have shorter trips. You know, am I going to drive for 30 minutes? Am I gonna drive for two hours? Yep. I mean, if I know I'm going to be on the road for a couple hours, hell up, put on something that last a couple hours. Yeah, let it soothe me.
Because the running time for most of our episodes thus far hour and a half to two hour are some just north of that. Because these are longer movies. And when you're doing a scene by scene breakdown, you're going to be the length of the movie, if not more with trivia and backstories and just our overall banter. So I love it. I love it. It helps me like honor the movie. I watch it again. I watched it with notes. And I felt like oh my gosh, these are all the conversations I was wanted to have just to go through scene by scene. So that will be there. But it'll be nice to have more episodes coming out because I can do shorter ones faster. And then like cue up another great movie. But let's come back to tonight. Yeah. 1989 was one that I thought about for a while. I was going to do fields of dreams. I was going to do crimes and misdemeanors. I was going to do the big picture. And then it was just like, you know, I got to do something and maybe it's this movie that some people can make fun of it, because you might have forgotten it or think well what is that movie? And then I watched it again. It's like now this works and that is Roadhouse. Yeah, yeah. 1989 Classic. So I think it works really well with these other nine movies. And so it's a kind of crossover to the let's talk Cobra Kai audience with all of its karate in fighting.
I was enjoying the fight scenes. I watched this movie now twice in recent days. And I actually enjoyed it more the second time because unlike Cobra Kai, when you and I do let's talk Cobra Kai, or anything in the Karate Kid, Cobra Kai universe, I will watch the movie or the show the first time for pleasure. And then the second time for an hour business. Yeah. I like this, I did the opposite. This I watched the first time kind of analyzed more second time, let everything go. Let any notions go and just enjoyed myself. So it was a definitely I think a more fun ride. Actually the second time seeing it already go.
Well, without further ado, let's jump in. Oh, yeah. So we are covering Roadhouse. 1989 Directed by rowdy Harrington, written by our Lance Hill and Hillary Hanken. And the genre action thriller. It's kind of spot on little bit of comedy in there a little bit limit the ratings 6.6 on IMDb respectable. I mean, again, this is not a movie that's going to get eight nines just because of the subject matter. I get it. It's easy to make fun of. But then really, it's just really great. People have a hard time admitting it. Rotten Tomatoes 66%. So interesting. 6.6 and 66. Well, but hey, just sharing the facts. The release date, May 19 1989. Now, so I saw this in the theater with one of my friends from high school, I would have been actually 17 years old and loved it right out of the gate.
Wait, Jason, I wanted to discuss this for a moment, please. I looked on IMDb. I looked at a few movies. And that you have all the information there. The gross the budget, the release date, but what I'm not seeing is the MPAA rating. What was the MPAA rating of Roadhouse that? I don't know. Because the question becomes you were 17 Yeah, I was I believe 16 You know, give or take a few months. It should we have been watching this movie is what I'm saying? Was I think he's very keen.
That was a popular thing at the time. This had to
have been an AR. But then they just got lacks. Yeah, you're 17
or 16. Seven. Yeah. I worked at a theater. You got lacks. It's one of the 12 year olds come like guy. No, no, no. When I was 1112 You're not getting into that movie. Right? This is different. So I think that's a big part of it.
Okay, so late teens come on in. And
I don't do the MPAA ratings. They don't mean as much as they used to.
Well, also we're adults now. What do we care? You know, the first time I went to see Team America World Police. I went by myself. Yeah. I didn't know the rating. I didn't look at the rating. I'm a grown man. What do I care? Yeah, I thought it was just a fun puppet movie. Gee, yes. Seriously, that's what I thought. And I'm sitting there and about 20 minutes. I'm gonna
watch yours. Yeah. Classic. So the budget for this movie. 17 million. Pretty good. They spent that money really well with these explosions and what? I gotta say, oh, yeah, yeah. When we talk about the t shirt. Of course, this is the 80s late 80s. Yeah, and the US gross. Again, these numbers come from IMDB. So it could be more. It's probably north of this, but 30 million. So obviously made a return right there and probably did much more than that worldwide and all the other markets and now streaming and heck, I just watched it recently. So we're still adding to the Roadhouse fund. Jason, you
know what we're doing now, in 2021. I'm gonna be doing, we're affecting the algorithm. All the algorithms are affected by every little thing that we're doing. There's this
uptick on Roadhouse recently. We just knocked it up a little bit. Hopefully, these episodes really make an impact. Because the purpose for this show besides is me sharing and bringing people on to talking about movies is to give people a reason to see a movie for the first time or to revisit it. So it's like, oh, yeah, you know what, I'm gonna watch Roadhouse again. Yeah, why not? I'm excited. So I've heard people who listen to the show, or hopefully now watch the show as well on YouTube. YouTube Live, like, oh, my gosh, I went back and saw that now after listening to your episode, or vice versa, you know, in reverse. It's like, oh, yeah, that was so cool. You pointed those things out. I had to see it again. So I love that sound. That means it's working. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm going to come back and do many, many more. So the synopsis short and sweet, a tough bouncer is hired to tame a dirty bar. I really liked this pretty good.
But for clarification, Jason he's not a bouncer officially.
Well, no, but he probably moved his way up. He was probably a bouncer. And then he became a cooler.
Okay, are we gonna talk about the definition of the word cooler?
Well, before we do that, how about the definition of the word? Roadhouse?
You had mentioned this while we were prepping for this episode. What is Roadhouse? And I was like, That's a good question. So I looked it up. And essentially it's just a tavern in our club on a country road. So I guess at work it's fitting because the double Deuce is definitely on set country road Yeah, sounds inviting. Yeah, so I don't have the definition for a cooler but I get the sense of it right they generally there's coolers in Vegas two coolers in Vegas are kind of sent in to bring a table down I think there's a movie called The cooler which I love well you might you may see not Baldwin phenomenal movie but if a table or a certain person's like on fire winning they sit in the cooler he's just kind of a he or she is is kind of a bad luck person. They bring the mood down the energy down. Oh, is that what it's different? So yeah, that context here. A cooler here is this to keep cool be over the bouncers just try to keep a cool vibe if if a cooler heads in charge style. It's much better off for everyone.
Sure, sure. You don't want to ruckus in the room. Well,
this movie starts with some ruckuses Now, something we also talked about was the fact that Roadhouse could be in the works for a reboot. Oh, yeah, I read this in the trades just the other day, you know, long after I was already going to do this movie with you on here, but it's like wait a second, what Jake Gyllenhaal and Doug Liman are penciled or there's talks about them doing this Doug Liman being the director. Of course, Jake Gyllenhaal would be fantastic in this so Hey, man, I want to see this happen. So
I guess they've been trying this for a while because back I think maybe 2006 2007 Don't quote me on that year, but approximately then, when Ronda Rousey was UFC, Women's Champion, reigning queen, the world was her oyster for a time and I believe she was under consideration to be the star of the reboot of Roadhouse. So I think even before Jake Gyllenhaal, Ronda Rousey, by the way, who was now with the WWE, she was considered in the title role. I guess her name wouldn't be Dalton, but she was considered for the film. I guess it could. It's kind of an ambiguous name, I suppose. Yeah. So she was considered but unfortunately, she lost the title. I don't know if that's relevant or coincidental. But around the time, she lost the title, and she started going down from her UFC reign, then I believe the offer was possibly rescinded.
She's also not a great actress.
I haven't seen her acquisition Expendables.
Yeah. Well, I just mean, like, it'd be a different movie. If they get Jake Gyllenhaal. That's like, you know, Swayze was a big name, and he carries this movie. Well,
hang on. Swayze was so good in this his moves. That's gonna get into his moves. Holy cow. Can Jake Gyllenhaal do that? Well,
I don't know. But Jake Gyllenhaal he's a chameleon. He trained whatever it is. It could be a whole new look. I don't even know. But I could see John Hall doing this. So it's Ronda Rousey. Yeah, it'd be fun. It'd be this quick movie that came and went. Yeah, but John Hall, they could make a real go at it. So let's get into the castle. I'm ready. Patrick Swayze is don't know, I just gotta say. I also read his book, which is fantastic. But rest in peace restaurants. Patrick Swayze, September 14 2009, at 57 years old, had pancreatic cancer.
Yeah, that's a bad one. I mean, they're all bad, but that's a real bad one.
His wife was Lisa Swayze. The book was time of my life. Very fitting title. I read it a few years ago.
That almost makes me cry, man. Fantastic. Wow.
They met in high school. It was about his meteoric rise to success and he's a dancer, dancer, dancer. Yeah. Always fantastic, but maybe never looked better than in Roadhouse.
I'm telling you, I enjoy this movie more. The second time. I was just sitting there blown away. Yeah, I mean, his moves. He's so I don't think I've ever seen anybody kick ass in such a graceful manner.
It's great. Now, of course he's in other movies. Outsiders Grandview, USA Red Dawn Youngblood point breaks it he enjoyed Donnie Darko, and so many more. He'd be on SNL stealing scenes. making us laugh makes us cry. He's fantastic.
I'm sorry. Jason. Did you say it wasn't Donnie Darko? Oh, yeah. Hello. There's the Jake Gyllenhaal exact inaction. Hello,
are you go right. Wow. And Patrick Swayze who was also nominated for three Golden Globes for Best Performance by an Actor 9096 to Wong foo 1991 Ghost and 1988 Dirty Dancing. So you know I didn't want any but Dirty Dancing goes to Wong foo thanks for everything. Phenomenal and he's great and ghosts by the way, which came out right after Roadhouse. And Dirty Dancing is like you know, obviously women love him and Dirty Dancing.
Jason talk about A diverse range of roles. He fights, he dances and he loves any cross dresses, any crossbars who else has that on a resume?
Not many. So he was fantastic. And I'm super excited to break this movie down. A couple other cast members Kelly Lynch, Doc. Remember her from bright lights big city cocktail drugstore cowboy curly Sue Charlie's Angels always great. But again, maybe she never looked better. This was like a perfect time. Yeah.
Would you say this? Was everyone in their prime?
Seems like it. Yeah. Speaking of looking great, Sam Elliott. Oh, yeah. As Wade Garrett. You may know him from Mission Impossible TV series mask, the quick and the dead fatal beauty. Tombstone. The Big Lebowski. He was the stranger. Yeah, Hawk up in the air. A star is born. And so many more. He's Sam Elliot.
Oh, yeah, women. I hear women, him and Sean Connery. But Sam Elliot. I hear women talking about Sam Elliot to this day.
He's great. He's great. And always so likable. Right? And yeah, he
does. He plays you still like him? Even though he's a he's sexy. You know what I mean? Like, he may be a party. He wants to be like, Screw this guy, you know? But he's so likable and so sexy. I have a guy's
guy. Yeah. Then there's been Ksara who's Oh, fan? tastic. So we also rest in peace. We lost Ben February 3 2012 81 years old. Oh, well, also to pancreatic cancer. Oh, wow. He was a phenomenal actor. And movies like The killing of a Chinese Bookie, the Spanish Prisoner. Also The Big Lebowski, happiness, summers and The Thomas Crown Affair, and so many more. I've always been a fan. And no one else could have played this. That good. He was the devil himself in this movie.
If you're an actor and you can get someone to love you. That's great. If you can get someone to hate you even better. still great.
still great. Then there's Jeff Healey who played coding. Now you may know him as a singer songwriter, right. We lost him as well rest in peace march 2 2008 41 years old to lung cancer. Now he was a Canadian blues rock singer and guitarist who lost his sight as a child due to a rare form of eye cancer overcomes that becomes a great musician. And he had a top five hit in the US with Angel Eyes, which is a phenomenal song sound. I know you're a karaoke ear. And you would appreciate this song if you don't already know it.
I'm going to check it out. First off, and second off. He was really blind. He was really blind. Oh, wow. Because I didn't know I thought he was maybe acting
now. I knew him right away because he was kind of big on the charts. Around that time. I was like, Oh, this is Jeff Healey blind and played that role really? Well. He didn't act that much. This was his first time maybe a couple more things if that. I don't know how he popped up in the movie. I don't have that backstory. Maybe he knew. You know, rowdy and I don't know. But he does great as Cody. Oh, you know, is the guy that knew dolt and before
everyone else did sure he's been around the club scene. Dalton's been around the club scene.
Exactly. So now into the crew. Rowdy Harrington director. He did other movies and shows Sal like Tales from the Crypt TV series gladiator and not the best picture Gladiator. Oh, here you go. This is the other gladiator but the boxing movie Written by Robert Mark Kaman. Oh, there's a tie in. Hello, tie in yo Yeah. For our let's talk Cobra Kai. audience. So I was like, Oh my gosh, we talked about that movie gladiator on our deep dive of Caymans filmography, so I thought you would appreciate that that's nice. He also did striking distance Bobby Jones stroke of genius and others. Getting into the writers again, are Lance Hill. 8 million ways to die out for justice Steven Seagal film, he was in that genre. And then Hillary Lincoln wrote fatal beauty which also had Sam Elliott and wag the dog and others, but I'm just picking a few things out here. So you know, it's a really good crew, obviously, and went on to do other bigger things. But I save the best for last as far as the crew goes, because this guy's credentials blew me away. And that's the cinematographer Dean Cundy and I'm just gonna rattle off these things and you're gonna you might fall over so brace yourself. Let me get ready. Halloween. Halloween two. Halloween three. The fog. Oh, my Escape from New York. What the thing? Whoa, DC cab, hilarious. Romancing the Stone Back to the Future. Back to the Future to Back to the Future. Three Big Trouble in Little China hook, Jurassic Park, and more. And it was up for an Academy Award. Now nominated for Best cinematographer in 1989. For Who Framed Roger Rabbit. This guy works with great directors and obviously a favorite of Congress movies, carpenters, you have Spielberg in there. You have Robert Zemeckis. This guy's the best of the best.
That's very impressive resume.
I was just like, I knew the name. And I started looking down there sounds like oh my gosh, I just have to say these movies because they're all great, great movie. So they were in good hands. The movie looks the part. It's unbelievable. Now you might know why. Yeah. So that's all I have before we go down to our scene by scene breakdown. So anything else you want to talk about? First?
I feel like we can just go on and on about everything behind the scenes and the cast and crew for another hour. I mean, the more I get into this movie, the more impressed I am by this movie, not only the viewing of it, but the hearing the trivia about it, and so bittersweet to see Patrick Swayze. I mean, he's so fantastic. And he was one of those guys who I think was beloved by the public. He was one of those beloved actors. Sad, sad. I mean, you see, he was so young. I mean, in the scheme of things, late 50s is still quite young. He could have done so much he could have what could we have seen from Patrick Swayze. So it's
a great way to put it very sad. We have seen, we don't know, but he loved us this. Yeah. Yeah. And let us jump in. I'm ready. So we open at the bandstand name of the locality bar, if you will. And Sal, it opens kind of like a CZ top video with she's got legs. I love that shot.
Oh, yeah. I love that shot to Jason.
I thought you would. And as we go in the band is playing and by the way, this band actually would wind up years later and from dusk till dawn. Ah, well, lead singer would start a new band and they were playing in that movie at the bar, the Teddy Twister. So just a great scene, but we follow Tillman. Frank Tillman played by Kevin TA. And he was in shows like emergency TV series. Yes. Many of the things you've seen this guy's face. He's very trusting. He's really great. They nailed it. But he's going through this bar, and he's seeking dome. And this leads to what sell
he finds Dalton ready sees Dalton an action really first.
So right away, we're in this beautiful bar. We're following Tillman things look, right. But then there's, you know, there's a little bit of an exchange and Dalton is involved right away.
Yeah, yeah. But we get to see how he he's representative of that term cooler as we spoke earlier. Yeah. Because he doesn't get his hands dirty. No, not yet. Anyway, and Tillman sees that so it only validates and verifies why he came all this way. This is the guy you want. Look how he calmed everything, and didn't even do anything himself.
And he established a point that out dough dad, and the opening is there to break something up. Someone had a knife, and he gets stabbed, but he remains cool. Yes, it has the bouncers exit the troublemakers. And when you see Dalton up in the office doing his own stitches, all bouncers do
well also, and by the way, the name is invoked later in the movie. Allah Rambo.
Yes. So Tillman enters and sees this, and he shares the fact that he's got a small club outside Kansas City named the double deuce. So he tells him about this thing and deltans It's like, he doesn't know who this guy is. But I think he's realizes Sal, that his job here is done. bandstands besides the one guy with a knife, but it's a well oiled machine, and you can tell that Dolan's kind of a fixer.
When we open on everything, everything looks great. And the club looks like it's fun and fantastic. But look, what kind of stuff still goes down, though.
Well, I was gonna say that was an anomaly. I don't think he gets stabbed every night. Who knows what this place look like, initially? Yeah, I'm assuming he's always looking for that. Next thing that challenge? Yes. And guys like this. Keep moving. Yeah, so we find out. So he's offered 5k up front $500 A night all medical expenses covered? So seems like a great deal.
Yes. And they get into the travel. I thought he was going to also request a travel expenses as well. But yeah, the guy pops out with the plane ticket that brought to mind. Well, how far away is this place? So I'm assuming it's at least 300 miles away?
Yeah. But I love what he says. doesn't fly too dangerous. Right. Here's a guy that lives on the edge. That's too dangerous. I'll be driving. So cut to Dalton retrieves his Mercedes out of a storage unit. Now, this is pretty new. The old guy. There's an old guy there, sitting there and sees him drive up in his beater. And that guy is played by Chino, fats, Williams recipes. And he was in Terminator. He played the garbage truck driver at the very beginning of the film that I recognize from Weird Science because he's also a weird science is a bar patron at the bar there. Yes, that is him wanting the same He gives him the keys and just there he goes. And I was like, Oh my gosh, there he is again. So, shout out to Chino Fatz. Very cool. So now we see Doulton and I was gonna give you some trivia, I'll go ahead and give it to you now. When he gets his Mercedes out of that locker, you know, wherever that is, yeah, that the car cover off takes a carton, you can see like, Oh, he's got a nice car. He's making good money because he's driving good deals. But I'll give you one trivia now because I'll save the rest. That car first of all, silver light blue 1986 Mercedes Benz sec. 560 c 126. But the garage was the exact same one where Reggie Hammonds Porsche is stored in 48 hours. And that's played by Eddie Murphy. So that same locker, the same garage? They've used that shot twice. Pretty cool.
That's a interesting tidbit. I like those location tidbits.
As do I so I had to throw it in there. I wonder if anybody
reckon Wait, did you recognize it? No, I recognize
fats. And then I was going to trivia later on. We're at that point. So I figured out we share one trivia now.
Yeah, some locations our favorite. I remember when I used to do extra work in movies. I would find myself at the same location again on another move. Oh, no, they can Oh, they they must like this place, you know,
exactly. Or it's cheap. Or sometimes, you know, filmmakers are superstitious to like, wow, that worked for 48 hours I want to use that is that garage just one mile away. Let's just can we do that? You know, it says things like that. I'd be that guy. I want to do that. So now we're in Jasper, Jasper, Missouri, just outside Casey, and Dalton goes to the double Deuce and south. This place is rough and it's bright. It looks like last call already. But this place is a mess.
Because you mentioned from dusk till dawn. And this kind of reminded me that the parking lot is not only dirt. It's dust. It's like a dusty parking lot. dirt and dust.
I think he even gets heckled on the way in because he's driving a nice car still. Right. Oh,
you know what? The word hotshot gets thrown in touch. Was that like a real bad thing to tell somebody in the late 80s hotshot? Hey, hotshot, watch it hotshot.
Well, I don't know if it's bad at this. It's this kind of
kind of mocking them mocking them a little bit. Yeah. Well,
anyway, behind the chicken wire. Oh, yeah. Which reminds me of the good old boys, some blues brothers. Right? Yes, yes. You see Cody and Cody being Healy. And he knows him, which is really cool. Yeah. But then we kind of bounced around the scene and we get a lot of little tidbits. And this movie Sal, I forget how many great lines there are. In this movie.
We're gonna get to my one of my favorite scenes as far as dialog in a few minutes.
Well, here comes a great line here because there's one of the bouncers if you will propositioning a patron. Do you remember this line?
Refresh my memory?
He says he gets off at two. And I just love to get you off about a half hour after that.
Oh, yeah. Are you kidding me? Yeah,
that's the kind of movie we're watching.
Yeah, within the first 10 minutes. Here you go, folks.
You know, right away. Another guy grabs a woman Denise, we find out her name later. And like what do you say we get nipple? The nipple? It's like, oh my gosh, this is like a different aerosol. This is like film nada. Things were more lacks.
Well, I always I agree with you. But at the same time, this place was completely over the top. Oh, yeah, this is over the
top. Even for that time. I agree. Over the top, another great movie from the 80s for another time, but I also love so imbalances are quick to react when this guy hits on that girl. It's like he waits for that guy to cross the line. And then it's like they're just ready to throw a guidance. A lot of times they throw people into innocent people. Yes, it's just displaying people into people
into tables. The people are sitting there enjoying their drinks. And then the bodyguard throws a body at you.
Yeah. And I love little things like graffiti on the wall. I'm like, I'm like studying. It's hilarious. And I love that Tillman goes by and he changes whatever it says to for a great Buick. Oh, yeah. It's all this stuff. He's like, let me just we're gonna clean this place up one thing at a time.
I'm a big fan of graffiti. Well, not particularly graffiti, but in particular restroom graffiti. And that that was getting in the realm of restroom. Oh, yeah. Was payphone Yeah. Well, I would say that, you know, restroom graffiti has been on the decline for many years, unfortunately.
Well, I would not know but not just your assessment there. But anyway, back to Cody. What is interesting, Sal that of all the places to land? Don't note some. And he knows the band. It's a three man band. Yeah. But I found that really interesting. And then there's a quick reference to Dayton Dayton Ohio. I take it how that was a rough place and it's like oh, that makes for an interesting prequel sell this don't and then date and time, like the double Deuce all over again, but just a few years before
Well, look, they're talking about making a prequel to Rocky pay TV series. Yeah. So at this point in time from where we stand in space and time, anything's possible.
Yeah, maybe Jake Gyllenhaal will make a series. Wow. Who knows? It's also interesting the fact that everyone knows Dalton. Yeah, he's a legend. And we should point that out. Yeah. It's not like he's a new guy. It's like they know the name. They don't know the face, but they know the name. So he's this cooler that the Midwest is aware of, which is funny. That's a whole culture.
It's that old saying Your reputation precedes you.
Yeah. And they all think he would be what though?
This, I wanted to ask you for a second, so everyone thought he'd be bigger. Yeah. So then that brings to mind what is and I mean, it's true height because Patrick Swayze seems to wear a heel. I noticed. I don't think we're getting into the Tom Cruise height here. But how tall is Patrick Swayze? Do
you know? I do not know offhand. I'm skimming the internet very five. Because when it says online five to 10 online, which means he's probably
559 Yeah, he's probably five nine. barefoot. That's why he was a little heel to give him a little bit of height. Yeah.
So they probably think the guy with this stature would be Oh, no, six something right. You're
gonna think that surance
626364. Yeah, this guy kills everyone. Oh, sure. Is short guy.
Dell sighs maybe Exactly.
Well, and also Sal, we learn one thing from one of the bouncers, the legend of the throat kill.
interesting foreshadowing there.
Yeah, we're gonna be revisiting that. And then, of course,
because this movie has a lot of them. A bar fight breaks out.
And I'm loving these bar fights. I really, I'm really enjoying them. One of the bouncers Terry Funk, yeah, WW II, or at that time, WWF wrestler Terry Funk. Wow. Yeah, he's, he's one of the bouncers there.
Well, that's what I read. They kept getting a lot of guys that could just do these types of things. Because what kind of role is that? Sure. You know, you're going to be a patron, you're going to be in all these bar fights. And so yeah, if you look around, you're gonna see some of the same faces again and again and again. Oh, yeah. But it's really well done. well choreographed. Yeah, I think and I enjoy it. It's like, I've never been in that type of situation in, in real life. And in this movie, it's just common that you're going to be in that kind of fight. This happens on Cannonball Run, if they're all at the bar, but it doesn't happen in real life that much. Thank goodness.
I kind of feel like bar fights happened more in the past than present day. Yeah, I feel like present day would be more likely someone pulls out a gun in present day, rather than there'd be an actual bar fights, which I have more respect for.
Yeah, people pull knives and they just keep going like, alright, yeah, no one's running away. Everyone's got ego. It's almost like everyone in this movie was in prison. At one point in time. No one knows how to back down. But there is one thing that Cody shares. And that's kind of the story of dolt, and he says, You eff with him. He'll seal your fate. Oh, yeah, like that. He tells that to the current bouncer of the double deuce. So that's it. So he goes in there and gets the assessment sell understands the lay of the land. That was Terry Funk. I
think that's who he told them that my ma event Yeah, yeah, maybe he's a big
guy. That guy was quite tall. So now we cut to big T auto sales and sell if you saw the sign behind Dalton Patrick Swayze, I don't know. But if you did, you would see a sign that red San Fernando
Boulevard. Okay, so this makes sense. Now, you know why? Because in some of these bars, things I don't remember offhand which scene? I thought I recognized a couple of people. And this was right around the time when I was starting to do extract so so there were it was entirely possible. I saw some extras that I used to know. Because I was an extra work in a 89 to 93 in there. Yeah, you should have been in Roadhouse. I should have been a roadhouse but I definitely saw some people I recognized and now that you say that San Fernando, would you say San Fernando mission Boulevard or San Fernando Boulevard,
San Fernando Boulevard. It was in LA I looked this up are California. And obviously they're cheating. California for Missouri, which I'm all for right now. Cobra Kai, our beloved show cheats LA and they do it in Atlanta. Yeah, it's like, occasionally they come back and they do something in Los Angeles, but not like the Karate Kid. Which they were absolutely there. So I love the fact that they're doing it. They're cheating Missouri in California. Yeah. And there's other things we'll talk about. So he goes in there Sal because he's got a great car. We know that he's got his killer Mercedes, but he's going there to get a beater or as a salesman says a runner.
Yeah, and there's a reason why he's there's a
great reason why besides the fact that does have these sweet headlights, which I thought were pretty cool. Oh, yeah, that was opened up. But the reason is, you don't want to be rolling up with your Mercedes all the time at the double dues, especially when everyone knows who you are. Cool, if you will. So
no, that's why the sort of the rule I always stuck with where I come from. You don't want your enemies to know where deliver work. Yeah. You don't want your enemies to know where people you love live or work. You know, you want to keep that stuff private. I'm just a big fan of privacy when you see stuff like that. People knowing the car you drive people unsavory types. Yeah, you don't want it.
And of course Missouri on the license plate is the show me state always love that about them. But he gets a lot of extra tires. And we'll save that for later as Oh, yeah. Okay. He just loads up on them. Yes. So now we meet him it and I love this guy. And he's got this wonderful barn garage barn apartment.
Oh, it's fantastic. It's amazing. It's great. And the rent, are we going to talk about the rent
or you can tell us how much it is? Or how much it isn't?
They make a deal on this fantastic loft? Apartment. I mean, it's fantastic. Well, okay, the good news is I love animals. So if I'm gonna be sleeping above sheep, and cattle or whatever, I probably can handle it. He asked for $100 a month. And he only asked for that because what he didn't want to get in trouble with the Presbyterian Church. Exactly. The first thing is, that only translates to like 250 a month, even with the inflation calculator in 2021. That's what you would be paying. So even then, even now, fantastic deal. The other thing is this exchange this banter between the two of them, so I am loving this.
Yeah, they get along great. And it's a really great character. We don't learn too much about him, but we enjoy him and he's a good old boy. You know, he's kind of Uncle Jesse from Dukes of Hazzard and you immediately TRUST Him and He takes to dolt. Now a lot of people came and looked at this apartment, and everybody passed. Yeah, but don't just need something simple. Right place he can train work out clear his head. Swayze in real life loves horses, so I'm sure it had some fun doing it this way. Wait, Jason, are
we supposed to know why the other people didn't take this apartment at such a tremendous value?
No, I just think, who knows? It was too rustic for them. Right?
Ah, you know, it was purposely i I'm in love with this place. The only
issue with the place is the fact that just on the other side of this small pond, right tiny pond is one Brad Wesley who immediately makes an incredible intro where the helicopter companies over low upsets the horses emit can't stand him flies away. And you know, right there. Well, you know, everything you need to know about Brad Wesley in that moment, y'all, he's that guy?
Yeah. Because you could tell that, okay, maybe he's not legally allowed to fly over the house, right over Emma's house. But you could tell he gets close to it intentionally. He's doing this to aggravate me.
Absolutely. So now we're at the double deuce. And here's a meeting Sal and I love this because it really reminds me of Reservoir Dogs, when they were kind of playing in a bank robbery. Everything just looked that way. The meeting the tables, if you go back and watch Reservoir Dogs now it's like, oh, you know that Quinton probably really liked Roadhouse, just saying,
You know what, this also reminded me of that very scene. I think it was boiler room. Or Glengarry Glen Ross. Well, those are great. Yes. Yeah. Okay, what the scene where? What is it where Alec Baldwin came up? Yeah. And he does the brass ball. Coffee's for closers. All that Yeah, exactly. Yeah, this reminded me of that. Because you know, right away like we haven't even met you know, like, I'm an employee. I haven't even met you for 10 minutes. And you're already coming at us.
I'm telling you to go back and watch reservoir dog. You got the old guy barking at them. And it's like, it's my way the highway. Oh my gosh, it's really an homage to the seat. I'll give it another lunch. And he gives the names out. You missed it. Thank you, Mister. I absolutely love that sequence. But anyway, Tarantino I'm sure as a fan, but Tillman endorses Dolan kind of hands it over to him. And of course, here comes that famous line. It's my way or the highway. And really, Sal, he starts to give the bouncers Bible. And there's three things three rules. I don't know if he wrote them down. I can say them if you have them.
I remember be nice. Okay. Well, that's the third one.
Be nice. We'll start with three. We'll go back. Be nice. The second one. Take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar, unless it's absolutely necessary. Yeah, I like that. I like that. That's good. And it's when he does watch him. He does this. Yeah, sometimes he's like, we got to deal with it now. And other times, it's like, getting my little head nods. Yeah. And number one, because we're going in reverse. Never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Oh, yeah. All good stuff.
One of my favorite pastimes is looking at self defense guys on YouTube, offering advice. And they all say that do not underestimate your opponent. You don't know anything about this this person and this stranger you don't know anything about them? No, you can't
it behooves you to be ready be prepared and anything in any sport in anything. Oh, yeah. So it's a great sequence and he's already firing people. You know, people are getting mad because he He was there just long enough to assess this guy's scam. And this guy's doing this this person selling drugs. He knows he's done this before this is kind of like Gordon Ramsay when he would go into kitchen, or even Bar Rescue. Like they've all come from like this type of thing. Yeah, you did this 100 times you can come in and say that it's really what this is.
Yeah, same characters, different faces in his cleaning
house. And so now cut to you know, he's made some changes. It's a ripple effect that hasn't all changed yet. It's not the glorious double Dusit it becomes. But the first night, a patron, of course, pulls a knife.
Yeah. And Sal,
what happens? Well, this
is after he's given the instruction to these bouncers that he's now mentoring, so to speak, right? Yeah. So he kind of they have to give each other those signals those little nods, the little eye movement, the little, the little Go ahead. So when that guy pulls the knife, that bouncer looks over at adult and like, what do I do? And Dalton's like? He gave him the was it the be nice nod? Or was it the ticket outside? Not? Well, I
think it was earlier than that. I think the bouncer went over there to defuse a situation. It escalated and the knife comes out. And the adult knows like, this is above them, right? Yeah. They don't know this. Yeah, they can't do it, and disarms him, he slams his head through the table. Yeah, he steps in when he needs to, because that's like next level stuff. Well,
once somebody pulls out a weapon, it becomes life or death. I mean, it's one thing to get punched. It's another thing to get stabbed. You know, even getting punched could be deadly. I mean, recently, there was a case of a person that sucker punched on the sidewalk. They were sucker punched, they died. And the person is up for murder. I believe so. Even getting punched can be deadly. But pulling out a knife is saying for sure. I'm willing to kill you is what it's yeah.
So he didn't sit him over there with a knife out. It's like he waited, it came out. And then Dalton comes in out of nowhere. Yeah, it's the rescue to the rescue. And everyone else is like, oh my god, the legend is true. It's one thing to know to hear about the legend and meet him to see him in action. Yeah, whoa.
It would be like Cena what Jordan play if you feel were there at that time. Yeah. See Tyson fight in this prime? Oh, yeah. That's what these people are watching right there. In Missouri. They're watching Michael Jackson perform. And they've only heard of them.
And then Cody's on the mic says the name is Dalton. No, he's a blind guy. And he can read the room. Oh, yeah. And read the room. Sure. And he's like, he's put someone down.
He can hear it. He can hear it. He can feel it and hear it. Yeah, that's funny.
They know they have a connection. So meanwhile, sound this might be one of your favorite scenes, because you've alluded to this before the recording. Oh, Steve's got something cooking in the back room. Please explain.
Why me Jason. This is the scene that stood out to me from the time I originally saw this movie. As a 16 year old boy, I want to say that I was a 16 year old boy, when I first saw this movie in the theaters. And this is a scene that stood out to me. And that was would you say the character's name was Steve. Steve. Steve has a young lady. Doggy style. For lack of a medical term, doggy style in the storage room? And what does he say? He says some creepy line like you're gonna be my Saturday night thing. He says something like that. Exactly. Yeah. And of course, Dalton walks in at the most inopportune time. You know, you think he would have locked the storage door? How about that my friend? Maybe put a box in front of it. Maybe Steve help yourself out here. Instead, just leave the door unlocked. Dalton walks in and he immediately fires Steve on the spot. He's
He's like I'm on my break. You said stay on it. Right. Stay on. And then Dalton fires the bartender. Oh scamming because he saw it was playing his debt. Yeah, that guy wasn't slick. It's the till puts the money in his pocket. And don't seen all this and you can just read someone that guy looks sketchy from the get go sale.
Yeah. Well, you know what you got to especially indolence position. You gotta assume everybody's on the take until they prove otherwise.
That's exactly right. Yeah. So now we learn when he goes outside after firing two people maybe more. We only saw the two. We learn right away. Why don't need extra tires?
Yes, yes. The old pop the tires. But Sal, who leaves a knife? Well, that's to send a message. Okay, that's what that is. I would think so. And a knife is a message
you could dislike pop it and then take your knife, but he whoever was left the knife. Well,
hang on. Is that another foreshadow? Exactly. Let's remember that knife folks. Yeah.
Well, it's a different but yeah. Oh. Anyway, so now we're at home and Dalton is reading Jim Harrison's Legends of the Fall. Oh, is that what that is? Yeah. Okay. As Wesley, other side of the pond, throws an orgy. Some big soiree party.
I call it a rager. I mean, women are getting topless. I mean, thrown into the pool. I mean, it's a wild party.
Yeah. And we spot Denise the blonde bombshell played by Jillian Michaels. That's been at the double deuce. So she's a frequent guest visitor patron
at the double Deuce with a Frisbee Barfly. You don't hear that term. Barfly. It
was more like someone who's just always at a stool drinking Oh, okay. Okay, that was a drunk. She's there to like, be seem it would
seem she's there to hook up, maybe
hook up be seen when she's not a Wesley's. She's a double deuce. Yes. So in the morning, another waitress carry played by Kathleen will helped. You might recognize her from er la law. She was also backup choir for the carpenters music band. So that will come into play later in this movie. But she's real bubbly and loving and immediately was super nice to Dalton and she brings breakfast
very sweet gesture that has happened to me in the past. Definitely a sweet gesture bringing someone breakfast in bed. And for
bringing breakfast. She sees what Wow, we get to
see the Swayze bootay here. I was not expecting that. I was not expecting. I think the last time I saw of male booty and 80s film was Terminator, right? Didn't we see Arnold's but?
Yes, we did. decide to sell everything for a brief second in terminal. There we go. Watch Roadhouse twice recently. Did you look at the but both times?
I did. I could not look away. This was Swayze. I don't think it was a stunt double. No. I mean, if you have an opportunity to see sways these but I don't care what your sexual orientation is. You're gonna you're gonna have a look.
Yeah. Well, Carrie goes on to share. What exactly?
warning about Wesley? Right. You don't wanna mess with this guy.
And what he did the night before by firing?
Oh, yeah, yeah. He said you shouldn't fire the bartender. That was his nephew.
Exactly. Yeah, yeah. And so the dog is not affected by this. He's been down this road a million times. So you know, she's warning she's a sweet girl. Somehow she found him first of all,
yeah, well, small town, I guess. Yeah.
Where would he be staying at old limits place?
Emma's place. I had a look at that. He wanted to be paid pay $100 a month for that place. I wasn't gonna pay that. That's ridiculous. There's no running water. And like holy smokes right away. First thing he does.
Well, I'm glad you said that. He is always smoking.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Which is you know, by today's standards. That's the times you will you wouldn't imagine a martial artists today. doing that. But back then a that's what everybody did.
Well, this leads to a scene that I never stopped thinking about. So it's funny. It's classic. I know you're gonna remember as well, having to seen the movie twice recently. But when was Lee's not owning the air and his chopper. He is owning the road when his Mustang. Oh, this scene Sal and his plane. Shoo bop, by the crew cuts and he is like, singing along. It's a two lane road. And he is literally doing both lanes to slowly fishing in and out of them. Which also reminds myself a great scene from Seinfeld. One episode we're laying and we're talking because they taken the paint out of one of the lanes on a highway. So it made like double wide lanes. I think Kramer was involved. And she's like, Oh, this is just so roomy on this road. Much like what Wesley is doing, you're taking two lanes and just enjoying it. But of course this leads to here comes Dolan because he's, you know, heading into the auto sales shop to get some stuff. And yeah, he nearly hits him. Wesley was not moving south. He was holding true to that in a plain chicken.
Yeah, well in a game of chicken, he would have won officially right?
You don't even know he think was he might be asleep at the wheel or drunker. He just does it because he just doesn't care about anybody. So
he's the living example of that old expression. He drives like he owns the road. He really was driving like he owned the road.
King of the Road. Yeah, he probably does on the road, actually. Yeah, he probably
set up the construction crew to lay down the road. Yeah,
well, where adulting was headed was red auto sales and away meat red. who married an ugly woman sell immediately. So yeah, yeah. Also another great character this movie sprinkles in these great characters. Well, great actors I should say. I
was gonna say that. Yeah. How do you how do you distinguish between great characters and great actors were on the same boat went
and met like casting was phenomenal not to mention all the people I mentioned the beginning I made these smaller roles. It's like they didn't mess around. They got great people and read immediately you empathize with him. He jokes around with adult and they have a nice exchange because he sees the beater and you know, it's cheaper to do this than this. And he just knows he's going to have a repeat client. Yes.
And read alludes to other guys having come before
writen Yeah, and by the way for context, double deuces right there. Yes. And you can see it from
auto sales. It's like it's a stone's throw. Yeah, I
think those were built those facades were built for the movie.
Yeah. Okay. We'll get into that later because unfortunately, there's a hard moment to see related to the auto parts store but yes, okay. You think they were built?
Yeah, that's what I read. So okay. Okay, sides. And then the interiors were some more so maybe they did some of it inside. But yeah, you can kind of tell that they're just big structures. But Wesley, and Jimmy enter now wisely, is bringing Jimmy Alana Jimmy I should say, is played by Marshall R. Teague is in movies like The Rock Armageddon, but I just quickly want to shed some light on him. He's like the tough. Also, this looks kind of like a badass. This guy was a retired US Navy officer, former deputy sheriff in Memphis, Tennessee, and he won the NATO heavyweight kickboxing championship during his time in service. So he's not new to martial arts. And you'll see that later. Besides Dolan, he's right there, right. He knows his stuff. But he just looks menacing, like the Bulldog. So you know, Wesley just brings him along. But as they're coming in, you get the sense like, that's not good. And by the way, so he's bringing him in. If I'm not mistaken, Wesley was headed the other direction. And now he's at reds. Two minutes later,
he must have went to go pick up Jimmy and
then hightailed it back. Maybe he didn't lollygag he just like, really put the pedal to the metal. But I
think in this scene is where we is we learned at this moment. With him walking in with Jimmy, I think is this world where we see and learn that Jimmy is like the number one guy. We can then assume he's the baddest guy of the Hench baddest
guy, right? And we're shocked to understand that Wesley because we kind of saw him flying around. And when he landed, his henchmen came to the chopper to get him. You kind of have a sense like, this guy runs things. Yes, he's a little accident, you know, that he's just happens to it's weird that he lives right next to him. And on the other side of the small pond. I mean, a guy like this probably doesn't want to live I shot of anybody. But that's a great device for the movie. Thank goodness, they put him there. But quickly Dalton's getting the he's understanding the fact that okay, this guy runs down. He might not be the mayor. But he's running the town. He's orchestrating the town. He's probably seen something similar. In a previous city, I'm sure. Right. The small towns really tight knit. And he's in this line of war, but very interesting. So read immediately to his tone as being a good actor. Not happy. He went from having a good time to like, here comes the devil to collect.
Yeah, he says something like a beautiful day, isn't it? And red says it was
exactly yeah. So now we cut to Emmet. And He spots the Mercedes so it's kind of that dark tone this movie just makes right then like Oh, things aren't what they appear or things aren't as they appear, right? Yeah, like Red's been visited by someone who's kind of like the mafia, if you will, for lack of a better word, starting em, it's reveals a Mercedes it's like, how's this guy afford this? I asked him if he could afford $100 Or rent. And he's got this Mercedes. He's immediately thinking the worst. Yeah, got a drug dealer, drug dealer running from something and meanwhile, while this is going on, Dalton is doing what Sal?
Well, no, you gotta tell me Jason is Dalton doing? Are they forms are they cheat to me? It's a form of Tai Chi. Yes, I love his flexibility in this
Oh, he's fantastic. And it couldn't be forms but he's got moves. He looks great. He looks fantastic. While this is going on, and we haven't seen enough of Lesley today he comes rolling up on a
on an ATC See that's what we used to call them ATC altering cycle, which is three wheels not to be confused with ATV which is four wheels. It was my understanding this goes way back at CES were officially declared illegal there was too many deaths. Too many accidents a
lot of broken collarbone. Oh, not when I was in middle school high school. Kids would just you're done and it's rolling on you. It's on top of you. Go down a little embankment.
Yeah, so then they vanished. Yeah, you don't see him anymore.
So you're right you brought this up the other day it was a TC ATV replace that but then a lot of my friends just call it three wheelers. I was on one once and that was enough. I got unscathed next
was you have a good time? It's okay.
But it's funny how was it comes rolling up? Yes, it looks adult and kind of has a sense of his own. This guy could be trouble for me
while he's he sees Doulton doing this Tai Chi across the river right now. Yeah. Wow.
When I say pond, I could skip a few rocks and beyond the other side. Yeah, it's well that
big. Is it a river or is it a pond?
I'm going to call it upon until proven otherwise. If that's a river, that water is not moving, and it just looks like a body of water. There's this detail, and it looks like a pond to me.
Okay, so sort of like a remnant of a pond that a golf course would have.
Exactly. Yeah. Probably have some golf balls in there that Wesley's hit.
And I'm under the impression that Wesley wants me out of there. I bet you he's tried to drive them out. Buy him out. Yeah, I bet you that property. Amazon been there like four or five generations. He's not going anywhere.
He's got gold underneath their black gold. He's gonna sit down. It's an oil. So back at the double deuce. Tillman reinstates, Pat, who's Wesley's nephew. Yeah, but Dolan has other plants,
young adult and walks in and they're having this private meeting.
Now before we get into it, so I gotta say, Pat, sort of resembles Bill Paxton recipes. You think so? Yeah, there's a little bit there's a certain look, it's like, oh, my gosh, smiles. He could be in the packs and family. Like it's it. But this leads to another classic fight. But Sal, what happens?
At first, they just they try to shoo Dalton along like, listen, Pat works for Wesley, that's his nephew. And his nephew works for him. So he's working here. There you go. Mind your business, you know? No, Dalton pushed the issue. He's like, I need to know. I didn't know a little more. They probably would have let him walk. But he pushed the issue and yeah, a fight ensues.
Well, not just to fight Pat pulls a knife out a knife pull. Dalton throws him out of the window out of Tillman's window. Yeah, he gets stabbed again. But he wins the fight.
Yeah. Oh, it but they get that's where he gets stabbed on his torso. Oh, it's a deep
wound. And I gotta say it's not. I'm not real big on for this show point out flaws and mistakes. But this one made me laugh. Right bow or Pat was even punched by adult. Yes, there's a cut. And I don't know how this wound up in the movie. And it's his face. And he's already bloody. He's already got a bloody nose. It was like an insert. And it's like, oh my gosh, that it's so fast that you don't see it. But I thought I saw something back that up ensures anything. He's bleeding, pre punch. So now we go to the hospital sadhana. Here's a guy that stitches himself up. But I think because these wounds are deep, as we just talked about.
He deals with wounds that were intentionally inflicted. It's not like if you were I scrape our elbow on a nail sticking out of the wall. I mean, he is walking in with cuts, having been assaulted.
Yeah, but still don't could probably handle it. But it's kind of deep, and maybe he couldn't access it. So he goes into the hospital, very fortuitous trip to the hospital. I gotta say,
Well, hang on. Do you see the guy? It's soon as we get to the hospital? The old man coming out of the bathroom. Oh, yeah. I did a pause on that. Am I seeing what I'm seeing here? Yeah.
And he's barely moving. It's just great. It's great. So Dalton goes in and we quickly learn that he has had 31 broken bones, two bullet wounds, nine puncture wounds, four stainless steel screws. And that's just kind of generalizing. He also has an NYU philosophy degree. Majored in that and we meet
Oh, well, I want to call her Elizabeth. But it seems as she's called Duck
on IMDb. It is dark that didn't vocalist Oh, really. But we made Kelly Lynch. She plays doc Elizabeth. And she looks fantastic.
Oh, fantastic scene, great chemistry. I'm loving the chemistry. And whenever I see good chemistry, I always wonder is Is it real? Are they such good actors, because real good actors can pull off chemistry to do you know, for the viewer, but I'm thinking I'm loving these two together.
And she also points out that he is now going to get add this to his dossier, nine staples, nine staples. He probably couldn't do that on his own as easily. Yeah, so those are pretty deep fixes that. And he has a couple of great quotes here, such as pain don't hurt like that. Yeah. And then she asked him how he got in his line of work. And he says, Just lucky I guess
just lucky I guess that's also referring to that very moment him talking to her him him scoring that doctor instead of another doctor right. That's what that implies that
Rodriguez walks in there after getting stabbed what doctor you getting,
I'm not even getting a doctor. I'm getting some doctor low level nurse come in and staple me and running out and I don't even have time to ask questions. That's what I'm getting.
You're getting the nine year old dude. Not getting Kelly Lynch. Doc.
So Dalton refuses the local?
Yes, he Sesia because that's what he says paint don't hurt.
Does that imply there are other things in life that do hurt? This isn't one of them is that there's a lot of subtext I think to some of this. You know,
all there is absolutely. So now we're meeting at Wesley's and his house across the pond from admits there's a monster truck there. So it was really big in the 80s. Right around but no, that was a big deal. especially back then
that was I believe a though it didn't say that was or was a tribute to Bigfoot the original monster truck Yeah, I remember back. Yep. That because because I believe the original Bigfoot it was a Ford F 250. And I'm pretty sure that was a Ford F 250. You got me there, but it's beautiful. I mean, it's if you Yeah, if you're a fan of Monster Trucks if you remember monster trucks. Yeah, they are still around. And now they're doing crazy stuff. Now they're doing like somersaults and stuff. I mean, they're doing crazy stuff with these monster trucks. But right there, you're looking at one of the originals.
That's amazing. I only know their monster trucks because the big tires. I don't know anything else and
they've gotten bigger. Those tires. Believe it or not, if you go to the local Monster Jam, the tires have gotten bigger.
Well, this meeting is because Wesley is not happy with O'Connor O'Connor was the guy that was at Tillman's and Tillman's office and telling Dalton that Pat's reinstated, he's mad someone's gonna pay because they couldn't handle Dalton. And this becomes a scene about seeing O'Connor get beat up and you see how dark and demented Wesley can be. He wants to like get everyone lined up, and then take his pain out on someone and show him and everyone else around. Who's in charge.
This is one of those scenes that reinforces how evil he is. I guess you see that he's cruel. He's cold. He's callous. He's heartless. He's everything evil, vengeful. Just cruelty for cruelty sake. Yep.
So now we cut Tourette's and Dalton pulls up. This is a normal thing for Dalton now, visiting red. But as he pulls up, Jimmy and some thug are leaving.
Yeah, this is like the executive though because he's got a tie. I don't know who this he's got the look like he just left the office and like right, undid his ties. He's got the business thug look.
But what do we learn as Dalton goes inside?
They trashed the place. Yep. And read at first he's thinking, Oh, my God, read. Hello. Are you okay? Are you hurt? Are you alive? And read comes out with a mop and a bucket. He's used to this. Yeah.
Turns out Westley takes 10% or more as part of the Jasper improvement society.
Yeah. Kind of like an unofficial homeowner's association. You'd have to get kind of extorted into and then once you're in you're stuck.
Yeah, I do not want to be part of the GIS. I'll tell you that right now. You gotta move at that time. So this town I know it's this town. This town on the wall we see a photo of home Oh, Doc doc right there well yeah Mexican action related you know daughter nice don't know but yeah, somehow connected to read.
What did you know right away that there was a relation as far as you know, blood relation there because I thought it'd be like one of those. You remember when you go to the dry cleaners and they'd have all the all the headshots?
That'd be more than one. Yeah. What was she Dhaka the year. So now we cut to something you might really enjoy, sell wet G string contest every night. And then, of course, T shirts canceled out it's G string at this place.
Yeah, this was really great. I mean, I just don't think movies today and I mean, you know, in this decade, the the 2000s Yeah, I just feel like there's not as big on nudity. As a lot of these movies. Were back in the 70s and 80s. Yeah, I agree. And for crying out loud, we need to do something about it.
Just watch Roadhouse again. But who do we meet? So,
this is where we meet a Wade play by Sam Elliott, Wade Garrett. And I really, like I said, my second view, and I really got into his role really got into his character. Amazing. Oh, every little gesture with the hair and everything. Fantastic.
Yeah, cause that limp. He's been in this business a long time. Yeah, severe lamp. He's an old war dog. So Dalton calls and he's asking if he knows or I've ever heard of Wesley because Wade has been in this business longer because also just to be clear, Wade is also a cooler. Yes, this is a bar he's in and he's got this place pretty buttoned up as well. Right? Yeah, like you see a GI go crazy for the girl wants to go on stage. He's like, hey, no, no, he knows how to calm them down. Yes, keep them chill.
And he does and he squashes it good. He moves along and the guy start to behave themselves. Yeah,
exactly. Yeah, they're like squirting each other with squirt guns and they're cool. And of course Garrett's never heard of him and then all sudden a little mini fight breaks out he's like, I gotta go man. But this guy could just tell he's cool and probably mentored don't all these years is all I thought about immediately. They probably have all these this history again. Great pretty cool. Young Garrett younger adult and nice if John Hall goes there. Hey, might as well bring that in. It's a great component and it would be great. But fight begins. They have to get off the call. You think is that all I'm gonna see if Garrett Well, lucky for us? No. So we're back at the double Deuce and sell. This place now resembles the bandstand from the opening. It's completely changed. Tillman has put money into it. Yeah. Looks beautiful, but a makeover and it happened very quickly. I don't know when this happened but they got in there and they fix it up. We see Carrie who I talked about earlier who used to be choir for the carpenters. She singing covers. Yes, Cody. And sound no chicken wire.
Yeah. Okay. And that's how you know the place is upgraded. That's how you know no chicken wire. Yeah. Have you ever been to a place with actual chicken wire was from?
I would love it. If I saw it. I'd be like, Oh my God.
Like you'd be all excited about I'd be like, Wow, he's flying by your head.
Can I just throw a bottle at them? No. So immediately, we see Denise and she's hitting on door. Yeah, that's gonna go nowhere fast. But guess who steps in and takes her home?
Oh, well, Jimmy grabs her. Yeah, he forcibly removed her from the premises. Yeah.
And when that happens, they exit the parking lot. And then comes the monster truck driver from the earlier scene. He's coming in with other thugs. Yeah, like like newer thugs? Yeah, some people we've seen some we haven't. Oh, Connor could be there a couple of nameless thugs. Probably some old wrestler Sal. Oh, yeah. Brah honestly, from the 80s but this is another great line that I never forgot. So from across the room. Dalton's he's always scanning. He's in control. Never drinking. Only coffee. Yeah. Coffee. Yes. Let it I think not. Yes, yes. And he's looking across the room. And he immediately spot something coming in on the monster truck driver. And once you say,
I know what he sees. You're talking on the boot. Yeah, I mean, yeah. The blade in the boot. Right boot? Oh, yes. Yes. And then they
saw that thing. He must have just got like a little, like a glimmer, like, yeah, shine, and what you see
when they went on, and when you see the blade you see it. But he saw it before that. Yeah. So he's got the EagleEye
then they move in. And of course, this leads to another great fight sequence. I mean, this guy saw there's a lot of knives in this movie guns later, but right now a lot of knives and they're not afraid to use them. And we've seen Dalton get stabbed twice. This guy's coming in with a knife out of a boot. And he's kicking Dalton for the head.
This guy is going for a kill shot. That's a kill shot. Yes.
Yeah. Are you kidding me? Well, Dalton's a badass and it grabs that leg and I swear he broke this guy's knee. But then the next shot. He's the guy still rolling around,
but but I like how he pulled the boot off and throw it on the roof.
Yeah, pulls him out of the double deuce. And then yeah, those that up out of the way. fight breaks out, not breaks out. It continues. And it ends very victorious. They bested these guys. Right? But who is there watching waiting in the wings? Looking so fantastic.
And I love the waiting at this moment you you'll get even though Dalton had to deal with this. As soon as he turns and sees doc standing there. That's the moment you envy. Dalton right at that moment. Not not really before right now.
Now because she's there to see him. Oh, yeah. Because he did invite her. I mean, to be honest, and to be clear at the hospital, he's okay. You ever want to come by?
But I don't think he really thought that she maybe would go back to your but do you think she's okay. She's a physician. And he's basically inviting her to a dive bar off hand. You think she's gonna go?
Well, he's not your normal random guy.
He's not Sal. Rodri.
He's interesting. He's interesting. And I love her red and white plaid dress is looking really cute and inviting. And so they go off. And they go to Barney's grill, home cooking, and have really the first day. I mean, that was just the first meet cute at the hospital. So this is our first day. And now they go back to Dalton's car. And what do we see this time?
Oh, they drive up. And I don't think she saw it first. But he definitely saw it first. Right? Yeah. A stop sign. somebody throws a stop sign through the passenger window on real, you know, route first. And so the big stop is sticking out of his window. Yeah, probably slashed a tire too, as well. I'm Charlie and Dalton's used to this. Right. This is just another night for him.
Yeah. But before he gets out of the car, so they share their first kiss.
Oh, yeah. Very nice. So
you know, hey, this is going somewhere. This is a great device for the movie, because he might want to get the heck out of dodge. This is too much. He's made his money from Tillman. Maybe I'm ready to move on to the next town. But now he's got a reason to stay.
Yeah, yeah, it's one of those Should I Stay or Should I Go and she is the reason to stay at this point.
Right. And the more he gets close to her And she's connected to read and he sees funny business going on. And all of a sudden,
you know, it's in the family. Now you live in Jasper.
So next day O'Connor and a very big guy arrive at adults. And so I love how they say. We've been looking all over for you. So this is a small town. Yeah. Dalton's always at the double deuce. Or he lives across the pond from the guy looking for him. So I don't know how many places these guys went. But
yeah, what is no Jim he's not at the gym. Now.
We've been looking all this is Jasper, Missouri, in this town is tiny. So this leads to a meeting at Wesley's was this had enough? Okay, if you keep beating my guys up, maybe I can talk some sense into this guy. Yeah. But when he goes inside, one of the first things he sees is Denise, what is you see about her?
She has she has signs of abuse. Right. Would you say domestic it's like domestic abuse, you would probably say seen as how she appears to live there. She's doing aerobics, some sort of Jazzercise there in the living room. And yeah, we see that she has bruises. She appears to be victim of an assault. Yeah, but she covers it. She covers it out of out of shame. Yeah, right. It's probably all in a normal day for her to have something like that. But she wasn't expecting Dalton to walk in. So she starts covering herself and turns away. Yeah, very. Yeah. Sort of sad moment that you're like, well, it's one thing that this guy's evil to the general public, but but he's also a domestic abuser as well. I mean, this guy's like evil on every level.
That may have been Jimmy as well. Jimmy grabbed her pulled her we don't know
true. It could have been Jimmy. But that would have to that would mean then that Wesley allows Jimmy to beat her. Yeah. Who knows? Who know who
knows? It's complicated. Yeah, it's complicated. So now Wesley, gives us some backstory on himself, grew up on the streets of Chicago, it was in the Korean War. Then he moved here, he brought 711 photo mat, JC Penney is going to come here because of him. So this guy's got a lot of things going on. And he doesn't want this st. Dalton to come in and change the way things running. But he probably thinks like I just said, he can probably bring him on board or talk sense into him or pay him off. And he also did some recon on Dalton himself called you guys. And what do we find out because we really don't know Dalton's past? No. So what do we learn
here? Well, apparently there was an incident in Memphis in years past, involving a death or a possible murder blood on the hands of Dalton. And Wesley brings it up throws us in Dalton's face, I think sort of in a way of letting him know that he has something over him or he can always bring that up later use that against him. I think he he let them know. Listen, I know dirt on you. Yeah,
I got something. You can just tell by Dalton's reaction. This is not fabricated. This is real.
Yeah. It's not just an accusation. Yeah.
And then he pretty much offers total whatever he wants, you know, like, what would it take? Come work for me how much but he rejects that offer.
If Doulton were a lesser man. Yeah. He'd be like, well, or
he Sal Rodriguez. What's your,
what's your 500 a night I'm getting that the double deuce. I need 1000 A Night to come work. You know, honestly, I wouldn't even say he's too evil. I mean, come on. This guy's a real evil guy. He's not he's not just an asshole. No, he's an evil person
I was getting you wouldn't take that deal. And nor does Dalton. And he walked right out, you know, had the meeting. And so I think that was the probably respects it sees a lot of himself and Dalton, but on the other side of the spectrum, you know, he's not dirty and malicious and conniving. And he's not apt to do harm in the world. But he probably is like, this is gonna be a thorn in my side. I can just tell.
Right? What because even if you're a bully, like this is one thing I used to experience as a kid. I wasn't one of those kids who got bullied so much or really, because in that because I was a tough kid. Because the bullies knew they were going to have some sort of trouble I would not make it was not gonna be easy, right to bully me. Or I'm gonna come back or I'm gonna pop the tires on your bike, or I'm gonna do something you're likely not in there. I'll leave a knife in your BMX. I will. So it was kind of like that. This guy's gonna give me trouble. I just need to get him on my team and move on is what he probably was is what he's thinking.
Exactly. So now we're back at the double deuce. And there's a new bartender, Ernie, played by Keith David. Sal. I love this guy. The thing? Yeah, they live. Oh, yeah. Man at work. Always loved Keith. David. He doesn't have a big role in
this. No, no. There I did a double take because yeah, you're right. He doesn't have a big role in this. So I was like, Wait a second. And yeah, I recognize him. Yeah. Great to see him on the screen.
Great to see him. And then we find out that Wesley shuts off the booze Now that's going to impact double Deuce for sure what Tillman can or can't do. So not good. Not a good thing.
No, Wesley controls the booze distribution of
the town. So we got to solve this and this Doulton leaves. Guess who's back? Yeah,
very nice to see.
Doc is back. Yeah. Which is great. And then what does Jimmy mean by dig a hole? Did you catch that?
Well, I think because, okay, in hindsight, I'm thinking it's because they see Doulton with duck, and they know about the history which we will reveal shortly the history of Doc and Westlake because
I should say, Jimmy is outside in the parking lot overseen, Dalton coming out, there's doc and he sees them come together. And he says to Yeah, they have a chuckle at first, immediately. That's when we know like everyone's just one degree away from each other. Yeah. And that's exactly what it means.
It's like my old high school, Sylmar High School, northeast end of the San Fernando Valley, not far from Sylmar juvenile detention facility. Yeah. And there was a time if you went to Sylmar high where you dated somebody your friend dated your friend dated somebody his cousin dated, there was a lot of that and even as a teen I noticed that so yeah, this town probably not so different.
No. So now we're at home adult and plays these arms of mine, Otis Redding, and Sal, this leads to such a memorable, steamy, romantic sex.
Oh, it's fantastic. And you know what, there's this little moment where Doc skirt were adult and
she Okay, so give us a play by play. Okay, listen,
she either a I'm gonna say it's the 80s and she had high waisted panties. Because if she did not have high waisted panties,
she had no panties at all. Wow.
Okay, that's all I'll say.
Well, it's great. And just to think a year later, Swayze is doing it again. No pun intended. And ghost. Oh, another classic, you know, highly regarded sex.
Poor Patrick Swayze ways. I feel so bad for both of them. Right. I feel so bad for the female feel so bad for Swayze. You know, it's just really terrible.
Then Doulton goes outside. I want to call it a deck but it's not a back. It's just like the top of cover. Yeah, he kind of sets up shop there while she's sleeping. Yeah, maybe looking at the moon or something. Yeah, she comes out joins him. Nice exchange. You know, they're talking nice banter. But what I love is the peeping tom, across the pond. Sal, again, back to my point, how close it is. binocular? No,
just like, yeah, who is this out? And what is he? What is he doing? Yeah,
it's like Hitchcock's rear window. But there's no binoculars or wheelchair because they're close. They're that close. Yeah, it's just over the pond. And yeah, he sees now does he recognize while he sees her Jeep? Yes. sees her Jeep. Okay, so then he sees a woman haha. Okay, because I would say from that distance, you wouldn't maybe recognize the woman maybe. But you see the car. You see the blonde. Your henchmen told you about earlier. So there you go. So yeah, he sees
Jimmy said I saw them together, which put him on that porch on that rocking chair.
Okay, so you Okay, so I thought he just happened to be there. No, he are. Oh, okay. In that case, not only is he a horrible person in public of domestic abuser, he's also peeping Tom. Yeah.
The worst. Well, the next morning, we get him in again, just for a minute. And it's great a brief appearance, a brief exchange, share some wisdom about women. And it's really great. And then he's got the scenes over, but because we're back at the double deuce, and Doulton smokes as usual, yeah. That's part of his character. He's always smoking. Yeah. And I thought, wow, he just wouldn't see that. Now. They in fact, we'll see if Jake Gyllenhaal does it. And the reboot if they do it, I just don't think they will.
Look, since we're talking Jason about cigarettes, the reboot of Greece. There's none Gone. Gone. Yeah. That's what happens. People hate cigarettes. You know why people hate big tobacco. That's what they that's what it is.
So Cody shares Doc's name, which is
Elizabeth, Elizabeth clay. And her ex
well hang on, Jason. I'm sorry. I don't think that that's her ex. I think that Wesley had a thing for her, which implies you have like a crush on her. Maybe
that's true. We don't know if they were ever an item. Yeah. Or he just said I gotta have this girl and I chased her. Well, I had an idea that he charmed her, you can be charming, and they may have started to get together and had a brief romance and then she's like this guy. Okay, I think he could pretend to be something else. He could be a chameleon he could
well because I mean, okay, look, on one hand, he's like some boss Enforcer. On the other hand, he's like, Take a community developer, right?
That's what I mean. So I think that he wooed her, and then she saw his stripes. Well, I was like, I'm out. That's my opinion, but whatever it is, they're talking about wisely. Yeah. So now adult and understands like, oh, wow, she's gotta pass with him, which he takes much harder. He's probably thinking, Oh, they were like, super, super serious. Sure. And he's still around, and he starts to get a little bit jealous, and that comes up later. But now we know that Cody is well informed. So
yeah, Cody has his finger on the pulse. Yeah, right. He knows what's going down.
He's connected. So now that liquor arrives, the liquor that Wesley was banning, they must have outsourced some other liquor. Yeah.
Because you remember adult and got on the phone, I guess he who maybe has a connection, some exact somebody owed him a favor, so he
knows people. He's likable, who wouldn't want to work with dolt and again, like, oh, yeah, this guy's over here in Ohio. And because he even knows the driver. YEAH. Jimmy take a break. So he knows people. But as the liquor arrives, so does someone else. Yeah. And so who is that?
Well, I want to call him wait, I'm still stuck on Wait.
Let's say the whole name then.
What is the whole name? Wade Garrett. Here we go. Wade Garrett. It's a good name.
Roll it off on of course. He's not a motorcycles. So cool. No helmet.
Yeah, kind of Easy Rider looking.
He looks up at that sign in. Do you remember what he says? Do you remember what he calls the double deuce?
Oh, double douche.
Another. In fact, Garrett has so many great one liners. So yes, we're taking this and we're happy that Garretts there. We knew that kind of just spin it on the phone. Right? This is Sam Elliot. And it seems like there's gonna be more than one phone call. Sure. It's not a cameo. Sunday cameo. Then the thugs arrived because the liquors there they know it and they've already banned said liquor. Sure. This starts what
yeah, they're there to intercept this liquor. How dare you try to get liquor in here? You know, Wesley runs the liquor in this town. This is where that extra big guy is there. Right? Huge.
This guy's a giant Yeah. Had to be a wrestler. Our football player. He didn't
look familiar, but this guy must have been he's huge, huge.
And so they arrive O'Connor's one of them. He's already been beaten up two times. At least one so far. By dawn was Lee's beat him up, knocked him out. But he's he's back. He's a soldier, man. Yeah. And he shows up. Yeah.
And he was the guy that got ridiculed and assaulted repeatedly by Wesley. And get there. Yes, reporting back to work. Yes.
I mean, it was it knocked him out.
I've had some bad bosses, but that takes the
cats. That's pretty bad. Four of them. Jimmy takes a break. He's the guy delivering the booze. Yes, Dalton's they're four on one and the big guy just start slamming the liquor. While they're all attacking Dalton and he's four on one. He's holding his own. But eventually they kind of have him when they're taking some shots at him. But then Harmon Garrett comes because he went inside first comes outside to see what's going on. And the first thing he says is meal. Oh, yeah. You know what that means? If I'm
not mistaken, it's a term of endearment. Yeah, it means little one or like little boy, I think my son
Oh, seven. I looked it up nice. And you can just tell like, Okay, now the tides have churned. And we see for the first time Garrett really kicks a mess.
Yeah. Because before that the only people on Dalton side were like all these other younger bodyguards that he was mentoring. Yeah, the ones who were there already. He's teaching them. They're having to give each other the glances, they have to get the nod of approval from him and all that. So this is the first time he actually has some legitimate reinforcement.
Exactly. He's mentored by him. He comes in, takes out the guy, some nice shots, he moves a little slower. He's not as graceful now as Dalton. And in fact, what was coming to mind was what doc was saying to adult and like, you can't do this line of work forever. You know, you're gonna be crippled. And then I was thinking like, wow, she's really talking about what Garrett looks like. Garrett represents what Dalton could be. His move and slow is set in his ways. It's a crash course to nowheresville. Right it's almost
it's almost a rude awakening. I used to hear this term with these guys I used to hang out with they used to say, if you want to know where you'll be in 20 years look at somebody who has had your job 20 years longer than you've had
your Jerry you go yeah, this is where he could be I just watching it now for notes. I was like, Oh my gosh, and there's more we'll get into it as Garrett's role continues in the movie continues. But with Garrett's help, I mean don't maybe got beat up a little bit, but he was probably gonna get out of that. He just knows more. They've had the upper hand for a second. But the best them they move on, they win that fight and they go off to the hospital, but so not to get looked at or anything prepared, the guys are okay. There's a little bruised, they're there to pick up duck.
Way didn't know this.
No. But he had a sense because Dalton said, I want you to meet someone introduce you to someone. He kind of had a feeling it was a female. And then she comes over. And I should say that other to pick her up because she does drive because later she leaves the restaurant drives home. So you know, maybe one of them got in the car with her. Maybe she followed them. So they go out and I love the scene there at some bar. We don't know the name of this bar. It's late. They don't go the double Deuce they go somewhere else. And this scene really reminds me of Joss because they start to talk about scars. It's a nice homage to jaws. You know, he's got the scar here and it shows the scar that the female gave him. The moment he was seen. So really great. And the night is getting long. It's becoming day. And they go somewhere else because Garrett doesn't want to dance. Exactly. She wants to dance with
what is it gonna be at five, six in the morning. You want to dance? This? Is he
is this guy all nighter. So they're off to a diner to dance could be Bonnie's grill again, I don't know, you know, from earlier in the movie. Yes. And then a great line from Garrett. As he sees Dalton yawn as they're dancing all my ex live in Texas, and they're dancing. And he looks over and dolt and just gives like a he catches it right, just just a brief second. Since God he's great coming out of the gate, but not much for stamina. So good. And that would be a great time for her. That's what she said. But that's a whole other thing. So I mean, but it's great because they just have such a history. You know, you love Buddy pictures. And this is a buddy picture. It just became a buddy picture, like this far in the movie. And he really just brings a whole new energy to it. But it's great because you can tell the dynamics that she's really caring for Doc is really caring for Dalton, and you know, also probably is appreciative of getting to know, Garrett here, but then we get where she leaves. Doc's got to go get some sleep before she goes back to work, right? Because she's been up all night with these guys. And when they sit there late into the morning, we learn more
about what happened to dial back in Memphis. Yeah, what do we learn? So, we learn and these are just some short choice words by Garen, right? Apparently there was a woman who was married, but didn't tell Dalton that she was married. And at some point, the husband has a gun to Dalton's head. And then Garrett's line was something like when a man has a gun to your head, right either. What does he say you get killed
or you kill them? I guess whenever yes and something
like that. Yeah, essentially kill or be killed. You have no choice. In a situation like that. He was kind of let him off the hook and say, Hey, don't carry this around with you. You know, don't carry this burden around with you forever.
And he didn't know who the guy was. Probably here's the someone showing up at a no with a gun to your head. Yeah, what do you do?
I once had a gun to my head one time at a gas station. I would only say that time kind of stands still.
Yeah, that's terrifying. sounds terrifying. Yeah,
well, luckily here I am. But yeah, you don't want that. It's pretty serious.
And I misspoke. As far as sequencing goes, we learn this Garrett brings us up when dogs in the restroom. Comes back. I know she leaves very soon, but it comes in that moment. Because when she comes back the tones different. Yes, you know, adult and this looks a little bit like, you know, he's remembering and his he's trying to snap out of it. Great acting. So he's trying to come back in the moment. And then she kind of exits because she needs some sleep. So that's kind of the sequencer, but before she leaves another great line from Garrett. He says, Doc, I'll get all the sleep I need when I'm dead. Because he can just go and go and go. But so when he said that this watching this viewing for me, because I hadn't seen in a while I had not seen Roadhouse in a good while. Yeah, it's so obvious to me as the viewer that he's gonna die. It's like this. He's leaving along the way. You know, like, wow, there's all this stuff we already talked about. Then there's that
he's in that archetype role of the mentor of the sensei. And that's all
he knows he can't change or adult and probably could just watch it now. It's like, wow,
yeah. Okay, so yeah, that could be a foreshadow for sure. Yeah.
So now we're back at the double deuce, and it's packed. And all is clear. Everything's looking good. No fighting. At a nowhere one of the bouncers comes in and says,
What? Reds? autoparts store is on fire. Yeah. Holy cow. And yeah, you're right. It's a stone's throw away, because the owner of the double Deuce looks out of his window. And he looks right at the fire. I can hit it with a Frisbee, and he's thinking, Oh, no, yeah,
I'm next. And we have all these people in here. Yeah. But it not only is on fire by the time everyone goes outside, and Don's kind of worried that red might be in there again. You're right. What happens?
Explosions and I didn't expect that either. Human the second even the second time I watched the movie I forgot about the explosion. I'm seeing the fire on a horrible enough. Yeah,
firemen are falling down being knocked away by the power of the explosions. It was insane. Jimmy by the time it finally settles, and everyone's like, Oh my gosh, taking that in the firemen are going to clean up the pieces. We go back inside the double deuce.
Oh, yeah. This I was not expecting. No, this is. This is pretty ballsy embrace. lievable
like you set this up. Everyone's outside. And then you come in with your thugs. Wesley and his crew are at the bar. Yeah.
Yeah. So that's just, he's untouchable. Right. He runs this tab on top, if you could be that brazen. Yeah. And do that. I mean, he's letting everybody know that was me. Pretty much.
Yeah, exactly. And he's in there. And he says a few things. Says, play something, Elvis. And I found that to be interesting, because and oh, and he also says, Read Webster. Reds auto sales read Webster was a draft dodger and says a bunch of other bad things
about he said other stuff, too. He went he went further.
Just a little tidbit little trivia for you. Before the trivia section. Yes, red is played by red West. Oh, real life actor. Rest in peace. He's passed away some time ago now. But in real life, he was very good friends with Elvis Presley. Interesting went to high school together. Football team together. So he was in his inner circle. So I love that Wesley comes in and says play something Elvis, and he's just talking to Cody or whomever to play music. Yeah. And I think later it's like Elvis, play something with balls. And then he's throwing red under the bus. So that's no accident. I'm sure that was written because of the relationship with red wires to Elvis.
That's very interesting. I also thought at first or rather on the second viewing that maybe that was a reference to previous incidences in Memphis.
Well could have been for all we know. No,
that's what I thought maybe that's a reach. But that's what I thought. Memphis Elvis Elvis Memphis.
Well, he's holding court. Imagine that. You had a great time you go outside the establishment and next door blows up. You really don't want to go back and party and especially with Wesleyan, his crew there. Yeah, tone is different. But it over and the tone stays different. This is Wesley show. It's like he brought one of those soirees from his house and just plopped here the double dues? Yeah. Because who starts to dance?
Denise starts to do a sexy, pour some sugar on me type dance, she gets up on stage and everything which patrons are not allowed to do. Well, they're not and she does a sexy dance doll and
does a good job though. He does a very good job of like holding that line. respectful. But he's, he's there. Like you shouldn't be up there. And he's smiling. Because she's full topless at some
point. And you know why he's obeying His rules be nice. And
she's not being bad, but he's like this can escalate so
sure. Well, hang on. While this is happening. I notice. Garrett. Yes. It's like he's getting ready. He knows he can sense it in the air. Yeah. When you've been doing this so long. You can feel it. He puts his hair in a ponytail holes and Terry silver. He pulls a Terisa horse Terry silver pulls a girl yeah, so true. So true. There you go. And then he starts kind of massaging his arm like, oh, maybe he had a little tendinitis?
He does. I'm surprised he doesn't do some stretching.
So you're like, Okay, he knows something's gonna go down. This isn't going to end so well here
now. And then Dalton has a great line of his own. I gotta say when he gets to knees down, and she gets covered up and you kind of have a pet. Keep it on a leash.
Double desert gray lines.
Yeah. And then south Inter. Jimmy with the pulse. Yeah,
yeah. Challenging everyone. Everybody's challenging. Bruce Lee.
Yeah, no, yeah. And this guy, like I said earlier, his credentials, he knows some things. And he's confident.
He appears to be maybe the lone henchmen that has fight training, right, as opposed to just being a big tough guy. Yeah, this guy kicks ass.
He does. And he destroys the bouncers with this pool stick. He knows how to use a staff. He takes them out again, doesn't kill them, puts him down. This is like a video game. They recycle. But then Garrett gets involved. We've only seen him fight during the liquor debacle. And he gets bested by Jimmy.
He got a couple of shots in which was good. I liked seeing that. Got a couple of shots.
But then as it went on as the fight went on, Jimmy was just too tough for him too strong, too young, whatever. But then our hero steps in and does a great job. Not afraid he can go toe to toe with Jimmy. Yeah. And that's evident, because Wesley does what?
Maybe Wesley thought he better do this before he's embarrassed, right? So he pulls out the gun shoots the ceiling. And what does he say enough? Or that's enough?
He breaks it up. Yeah. He's like, okay. All right. We've made our point. You don't want
to see your number one thug go down in front of you. After you've created such a spectacle, and publicly declared yourself the badass. You don't want to see your number one thug go down right in front of you. That doesn't look good.
Know what goes on. Who's next? It's just him. Yeah, yeah, he's the guy. So great seeing they leave everyone leaves. Now we're at reds home. first and only time we've been here. He's moving south. He's packed up. He's ready to move out of town. He's had enough his business has been blown up. One of their guys is like you got insurance, right? But it's interesting that this town the owners or business owners, are there pleading with him to stay? Because I think they know their power and numbers and now's the time to stand up to wisely because otherwise they're all going to fall like red essentially sure what's gonna happen. Those who stood against him are going to be in his path and he's going to come mow you over and do harm.
It's sort of a killer be killed moment.
Yeah, it is. Great sequence even docks there, Dalton's there. A few others. Tillman's there and Telma does say like, was they were scared last night? Hmm. Don doesn't believe it.
No, Dalton says he wasn't. Yeah. I think that Tillman was saying that to encourage Dalton or rally the troops, you know, but yeah, dolt is like, no, no, he wasn't.
So now we're at a car lot. We've never been in this car lot before because the car lot we've been to initially was big T auto sales where he bought his theater. This is a different guy. This is a different business owner. The first guy doesn't continue in this movie.
You don't know that that actor? Do you the owner of the car lock? All of them down.
He's great. No, I
didn't have I'm pretty certain that's Hulk Hogan's brother. If I'm not mistaken,
how did I miss that? That's fantastic.
If that is him, then I did meet him. Wow. If my memory serves me, Well, it's
interesting that went from the one auto sales guy, but then like, now let's use this other guy moving forward. And it's like,
okay, they could have went to the other guy. Yeah,
that guy was already established. That was that Jasper? I thought he bought that car, maybe in Jasper. But the first guy was cut. We're learning this new guy right away. Right? Pete, which we find out later his name. And we go to this car lot. And the reason we're there, Sal, is because that monster truck finally comes into play because you're wondering, this guy's driving this monster truck. He's got a you know, a knife in his right boot. Now the monster truck is going to shine. And so what happens?
Yeah, before the monster truck does what monster trucks do? I noticed again, going back to the truck itself. Ford F 250. I believe but definitely Ford. And it's a Ford dealership. So this is a Ford rolling over Ford's. If you look at the crowd, the crowds like is this supposed to happen? Are we supposed to root for this? This monster truck plows through the showroom side window, raised over with three station wagons and then bust out of the other side. total devastation of the showroom at this auto dealership. And again, the crowds like is this a gimmick? Like the crowd didn't know what to do?
They're cheering and they're also scared. Sal, I love how they're all station wagons and our showroom we have five beautiful station
wagons, almost like Griswold types. They
put in the cars that can be run over by a monster truck. They don't have the Porsches and Mercedes or anything luxurious in there. Now we got to stay in budget. Well, in this scene, you can see a sign over adults like I guess it over shoulder. Los Angeles, Bakersfield. Oh, why did I miss that? It's in a distant was like oh my gosh, again we already know this but there's a sign
well shout out Los Angeles my hometown love LA now this is where Red delivers that line to him. You got insurance Yeah, he
gives it back yeah got insurance right
you're waiting for an answer and you're thinking the answer might be no
if you didn't already know it was is going to knock all these guys out of business that's why
it's so public about it so out there he's he's a spectacle at this point.
Yeah. And it's him verse everybody and this is where he
gives doc the warning here right about making Dalton leave you got to make Dalton leave town or he's going down that's where he tells doctor
right and so when don't know overseas that he assumes they're having old lover's quarrel. He sees her talking to him and he assumes like that relationship Get the ties are much stronger, which again, I think they had some sort of relationship long time ago. Yeah, it could
have been more than I want to think he
was on his best behavior until he couldn't be. And so Dalton sees that as like, this whole town does. Something's off, right. So now we're at the barn at his home, but he's in the barn and don't and it's training. It's like,
Jason, are you going to invoke rocky for here?
We should because it's very rocky for ask.
This is like since the primitive training. Yeah, like handmade dummies.
He's hitting a slightly padded wooden dummy. He's got an old school rocky heavy bag. Garrett's there to talk reasoning to him. Like, let's get out of dodge, amigo. Let's go. And he like goes upstairs. But he goes by a crazy rope. And all sudden he's hitting the punching bag upstairs. Because sow he's getting focused. He's locked and loaded on Wesley. And Jimmy, Jimmy and Wesley.
Oh, okay. I misinterpreted that. So I thought he was having like, trying to work out some emotion he was prepping.
I think he's prepping. And he's putting that it's not just about the girls. I think he was upset by that. But I think he knows the stakes are gonna keep getting raised. Okay, so he's training for the big fight. Tillman's place is going to go down next. And so he's part of that. So yeah, I think he's training for the big fight. Okay, that was my assessment. So of course, Garrett tries to calm him isn't successful. He leaves doc arrives. Dalton's upset. This doesn't go very well. But of course, there's not just one explosion in this movie. There's another and there's one more later. What happens this time?
Well, first of all, I just got to point out real quick. I'm noticing right now Doc is trying to almost create a parallel between Dalton and Wesley like, Don't you say? You're going to protect us from Wesley But who's gonna protect us from you? Yeah, these guys are not
like How dark is it? Well, she's probably seen it and Wesley. Maybe she knew him a long time ago. And then maybe he got darker. Okay, maybe she's worried about this power. I don't know. Okay. She's seen signs.
She sees a progression. Yes. Signs of some sort of progression. She's afraid of what he can become. Yeah. Not necessarily. Who is now? Yeah, I'll give her that. Okay. So right in the middle of her lines, boom, big explosion. Huge. And it's a Emirates house. And it's house. Yeah. Very sad with him it in the house. Yes. And he had to be rescued. And his long johns.
Yeah. So Dalton runs off docks behind him. She is a doctor. And it's kind of funny, because when it gets him out, you think Is he alive? And he's like, yeah, if you just get off me, he's fine. And his red, long johns. And then we see in here, Jimmy on a dirt bike route, not an ATC two wheeler because he had something to do with the explosives, sets it off. And Dalton takes off after him sounds that leap.
That's when you start you know, there are these moments where Dalton takes flight. And that's where you see. He was a dancer, wasn't he? Surely he took ballet, some of those kicks that he delivers. Yeah, I've never seen such graceful kicks. The last
time I saw a leap like that was Kevin Bacon and Footloose. Nice. Yeah, yeah, he did was great little jumps.
I love that. It's like it's like you're an acrobat. Thomas had
Flashdance. But I also saw some good leaps in Flashdance. But he jumps tackles Jimmy. And of course, this leads to a great showdown. And I love the fact that it's kind of just man on man in the middle of the night. This isn't a big spectacle. Like it would have been a double deuce. Yes. That's how much hatred is between these two. You run into someone in the middle of nowhere. You might not just get into it. Usually those things escalate and you have other people around you. But they could have went the other way. But they don't even care. There's that much animosity and this is going to the death. You just know it.
Well. Dalton made this happen because Jimmy was heading out he was hightailing it out of there, dolt and created this
fight. Maybe it was his chance to get him alone.
I don't know. It was so fantastic. Seeing him fly through the air. So great. It was amazing.
So this fight goes on for a while. And it's kind of great because it's right by the pond. And then you can see Wesley's place just in the background is yes. And really good exchange here. I mean, don't get some great shots. Jimmy comes back and then Jimmy gets a little bit of an edge Sal.
Yeah. And he says some horrendous things to wear, like almost whispering in his ear, but he doesn't like in a chokehold. Yeah. And what did he say? He admits
something that people don't usually admit. Well, I used to ask guys like you in prison.
Yeah. Yeah. You don't want to hear that. You don't wanna hear a guy choking you saying that?
Yeah. Okay. Well, Dalton, he's that literally led by emotion I think he was which got him out of his usual state. Yeah, like we've talked about and fight sequences. Why would a cover let's talk Cobra Kai, when you're just you know, led by a motion, you're going to overlook things. And I think maybe that's why this fight even happened right now. But here he is he's getting calm. He's probably looking inward is Dalton would why Jimmy is starting to feel like he's going to be victorious. He's getting confident. Jimmy comes at a kick, Dalton catches his leg snap something. I mean, again, there's a lot of knee snapping, that doesn't really lead the worst like guys shake it off. But great move. Best him, puts him in this vulnerable position. And Sal, once again, something we heard about earlier in the movie comes into play. And it's kind of like Mortal Kombat move, if you will. Yes, the throat kill. And he goes there but only because I should say, Jimmy pulled a gun.
Yeah, Jimmy had a gun in his boot. pulls it out. Yeah. Cuz
he was not going to go for death. Jimmy pulled out the gun. Yeah, that's why it escalated to that because he was probably just going to take the victory. But he knocked the gun goes off. There is a shot fired. Yeah, it goes off. But he goes in and does this incredible move. Throw out has it in his hands. But just as Doc runs into frame,
yeah. And she goes into Dr. Mode.
Yeah. Well, because Jimmy goes face down. Yeah. And she runs over to save him flips him overseas. What happens? Yeah. And she's venting at dawn who was just in this fight for your life sequence?
Yeah, but what just happened reinforces what she was yelling about right before the
explosion. Of course, she thinks he's the worst thing that ever happened. Yeah.
So she just witnessed him kill him at what she just saw.
Well, she's not the only one that saw Yes.
Mr. Looky loo himself, Mr. voyeur himself.
And that's great. Same when Dalton holds Jimmy just puts him out there. Fu was.
That was great. I love that yelling. I got into a fight at a party when I was a teenager. And then I got kicked. I got kicked out of the party, not the other guy. And I was in the street yelling. Get out here. Get out here. Such a great feeling.
Well, Wesley is a little worried. Now. Here's Jimmy. He's number one. Anybody? And that guy took him out. So
yeah, yeah, yeah. When you're number one guy goes. But he has to rely on those other guys who let them down who always get leaves?
Yeah. So he asked to think of a better plan. Not better, but more devious, and one that can put Dalton at a disadvantage. So now we're back at the double Deuce and Dalton drives the Mercedes. Is he driving into quit? Is he moving on? Right? Like, What's this doing out of storage? Yeah, I had no idea and goes inside. It's just on wisely. calls on the phone. Knowing Dalton's there. Like he's got spies everywhere. And says what?
Yeah, he gives them a choice. Yeah, doc or Garrett. He's going to kill one of them. Yeah, yeah. I'm going to kill one of them. And then adult and I guess while he's processing this, Wesley just let me flip a coin puts the phone down. casually. Yeah. How much more casual? Yeah, yeah. Let me flip a coin. Like he's choosing what restaurant to go to flips the coin goes back and tells him what does he say? He doesn't even tell him anything. He just leaves them in suspense. Yeah,
I wish I could write how this turns out or something. But yeah, but he
hangs up on Dalton. Dalton doesn't know what the hell who's being chosen or whatever. Yeah, we get thrown for a loop because in walks Garrett comes here
and he's beat up Sal. Oh, yeah. He fought a bunch of guys, three guys or something or four or whatever he said. And, you know, Dalton kind of set him down. You need to relax. I have to go find doc because she's the other side of that coin flip. Right. They're gonna kill doc.
That's what we're thinking. Yeah, doesn't call
herself turns out. And all my days. I've learned a few things. A phone call is faster than driving across town. Although Jasper is small, so maybe. So you got to get to the receptionist to patch the phones through because it's just so he drives over there. And you think Is she here? It's great, though. It's more suspenseful. I get it. Like Is she here? Is she here? There she is X ray room just an extra spy looking at Dolan's X rays. Love this guy, but he's crazy. He's a killer. And so they have another heated exchange and she's not leaving with him which I thought was interesting that she winds up staying there. She's meanwhile cell still in trouble. I thought that was weird that she didn't come with but of course what are they going to do with her with her in tow? So she stays at the hospital? Maybe he feels she's safe there with all these people around? You may think that I don't know. Right. So then he goes back to double deuce. Why not? Right. Dalton's is bouncing around. He's got to Mercedes today. You know, zipping around. Somebody gets back goes inside. There's Garrett. He's exhausted. He's crashed out, but so not so fast.
No, no, you we think he's crashed out. We think he just passed out on top of the bar on his left side. I said one beer. Yeah, yeah. Oh boy. No. Then he pulls them over. Oh, very sad to see
right there. Right knife a knife in the chest. And there's a note.
Yeah, there we go. There's the answer to the coin flip. It was tails. There you go. Yeah. Which means Garrett gets killed. Whereas for a few minutes earlier, we thought doc was gonna get killed.
Now he's like, Well, Doc safe at work, but he's just lost his friend. He doesn't even have time to mourn. This friend has mentor.
And worse is him having to pull the knife out? Out of his best friend and mentor and the only family we see that Dalton has on this earth. Oh, horrible.
I guess he didn't have to pull the knife out. But if you're gonna use the knife in any way, you need it. But
well, yeah, I guess he needed a knife. And that was the knife.
Maybe he didn't want it to be in his friend anymore. But very sad. We don't know how it happened. They already beat Garrett up. They were standing by waiting for Wesley's go ahead and they went in
but later on we see whose knife that? Oh, yeah, yeah, we do know who did it. Yeah, their strategic Wesley is, you know, he plans the
Oh yeah, he stay up all night after Jimmy's death thinking. I'm in trouble here. So now Dalton takes the knife and heads to Wesley's and I gotta say this thing is amazing. Such a great stunt. I don't know where Sal we see this Mercedes, hightailing it straight to the property for the Westly compound, and there's all the henchmen and they've all got guns and and they're all like thinking there is right there is the dolphins is going to come in here. Super fast, guns blazing. And what happens?
Yeah, well, we see the cars speeding ahead breaking through the property. They're all shooting. All the henchmen are all shooting everything from shotguns to pistols to rifles, I think. Yeah. The car just comes right through. Oh, and then it does a little Dukes of Hazzard style. Yeah. hits a little fence. Yeah, yeah. And then lands in flames and explodes. Yeah, no. More explosions. Loving the explosions. They run over to the car open up the door. You have to expect to see Dalton there. But no, no. Instead, you look down at the gas pedal and that very knife was pushed down into the gas pedal. Effectively nailing the gas pedal down. I love that. I love that. That's how you make the car go without you in
amazing. I also love how it just drove straight,
which was first Roadhouse or Rambo. Rambo was before Roadhouse. Okay, this is Dalton going Rambo here are Commando. Also before I'm loving it. I love revenge on evil people.
The body count starts to climb because Jimmy was a fight to the death he had been killed Jimmy YEAH, the body count now starts to escalate. From this point on, it reminds me of that scene in Commando, or that gets into the hundreds when he goes in to save the girl who I think was Elisa Mallanna if I'm not mistaken, his daughter, radon, John was in that movie, but he goes in there and in a one man show in the fatigues and, and he takes out a village. This is a mini version of that.
Let's not forget the camouflage. It was incredible.
Well, this is all of that. But I love Mercedes. That's why he had the Mercedes just straight and that thing didn't deviate. Some cars be like need an ally maybe like Don just took off.
He's in the pond.
So they open the door they pull the knife and you notice when he pulled the knife out had a quarter in the handle? That's really interesting.
What I did pay attention to I didn't notice the quarter. I noticed the guy who grabbed it then put it right in his shot man was who? I don't know that guy's name. He looks very familiar though.
He was the monster truck driver. Okay,
okay. Well, I was gonna say he looks familiar from like other movies. I think I've seen him.
I know he's that guy. He's the one who goes to the monster truck is always his car. And he had the right boot. Same guy. He's got this knife so he killed Garrett. And you know who oversaw this was Dawn he's like, okay, that guy. Well, slowly but surely. Much like movies. We've seen Rambo Commando. Guy start to go. Connor duck. Yeah,
we don't even see this.
No, not even just knockouts. They've got guns. Once you have guns, all bets are off. Oh Connors gone. That bouncers gone. Then he stabs the monster truck driver. Yeah. And he stabs me says tails again. And then throws the knife into Wesley's nephew, the ex bartender who was skimming up on the OH YEAH. second floor. Great seeing so Dalton's going next level here. He did some other type of training along. Yeah, this
is where he started thing. Is he like a former Greenbrae or something? What are they telling us here?
Yeah, exactly. So this leaves just the big guy. I mean, the heavyset guy that he's more like a trucker, comedic trucker. He's got the cat hat on. He's kind of in this gang, probably because he was stuck in it in a maze loosely related to wisely. I never feel like he could do any real harm.
But he's there. Yeah. Sort of just a product of his environment, if you will. And
they did a good job on dismissing him the way they did but sad. Go ahead and tell us what happens.
Well, I guess we learned that he has a fear of polar bears or other animals in general anything. Yeah, he sees a giant stuffed polar bear. And he starts freaking out. The polar bear starts coming towards him and then gets pushed onto him. We're assuming pushed onto him by Doulton? Yeah, so this guy is laying underneath this stuffed polar bear and you got to figure okay, even though it's not full of meat, this thing got away at least couple 100 pounds, a few 100 pounds three 400 pounds at least laying on top of that pansy
man knocks him out but that was a great choice by doll we don't need to kill this guy. He's kind of a buffoon. Let's just knock this over on him. And that leaves Wesley that's all that's left here. And it's a classic showdown style. Classic. It's good.
And you're ready by this point? Yeah. As audience Oh, you are ready for this?
So Wesley does shoot Dalton he takes a shot so you now have seen him stabbed twice punched a million times and now shot Yeah. And then he pulls out these vintage Spears like things on the wall game room he's this guy's got stuff from Africa Sure
sure. He's been all over the world as a Trophy Hunter probably collected the spirits of local tribe
yeah guy like this was in the movie hostel. He paid to be part of hostel like that's what wrestling is. So he throws one Spears out so it's a pretty cool shot. Yeah collides for a while and goes yeah, that was almost like wow, that was a good trajectory like and there wasn't much CG or any in this movie everything look like real effects. So
I was wondering if it might have been on a wire it could have been it could have been but I didn't see it though. But let's go to the wire. Yeah, so
they're in this fight and I mean don't can beat him but don't is now shot. He's also fought a lot of guys to get here. He's emotionally wrecked from losing Garrett, and everything else. And you know he's taken a hit. I mean, once is no chump, but then eventually, wisely gets bested by dull. Sure. Inevitable. And Dalton shows mercy. Oh, yes. He had him ready to go. Right he had that you have is like I've already won. You're not pulling a gun last second. So I'm just gonna walk away. But that's not how it goes out.
It's that moment because although Dalton has killed Yeah, he's not a killer. In this moment. He's like, do I have to kill? Like, I don't have to kill. So I won't kill. But yeah, not with a guy like Wesley though.
No, so Wesley, of course, the gun that was discarded because he had a gun it he knocked it loose. Don't knock on those. And once he realizes, Oh, he's not gonna take me out. He
can kind of see he's distracted. Right? Yeah, they get distracted by doc.
Yeah, exactly. And then he starts looking like, yeah, gun over there. So he grabs the gun. And this is a scene right out of so many movies, right? Die Hard, Fatal Attraction, where the person you know, the hero is kind of like, let that person just like, Oh, we're okay now. And then that person grabs a gun. Right? And then other people or person blows away this killer. And that's exactly what happens here. I think it's four shots and all.
Yeah, I think it was the fourth shot that finally put them down on the coffee table.
I mean, these are great shots. slugs are going off and he's taking real shots. And these guys, he
took the first three. He took the first three. Yeah,
yeah. And so it goes through the coffee table completely dead this time. It's Emmitt and red. And Pete until Yeah, it's the for
folk, the local business owners. Absolutely. It was great. It was fantastic. I'm glad I'm glad it was them. Because they have a history that goes far beyond Dalton's recent
fight. He's been robbing them for years, man. Yeah,
they go way back. This guy has been a thorn in your side for a generation.
In fact, as Tillman who fires the fourth shot comes up to do so. This is our town and don't you forget it. Pay back man pay back.
Yeah. And then red gathers up the guns. You could tell me when this was all said and done. They had a little plan. Yeah, because right away red He takes the guns when he goes to take lights out. Yeah, the police
are there in an instant. Yeah. And then there's the guy that pulled him in fell on. And I think they called it tinker. And I think I looked up online. Well, the police show up and they're asking everybody what happened. And I love this hour. That was so great. This line, they all just basically say anything is anything. And that just goes down the line all the way to tinker, the heavyset guy, the trucker. And he's like, What do you say?
A polar bear fell on me. Exactly. That was so great. And then the other guys start cracking up they all
laugh and the cops you can tell this is the type of town was like, Well, no one saw anything and Wesley had to come in. It was like everyone just showed up here and
this happened. So yeah, this is a dingdong. The Witch is Dead moment. They're
all gonna get off and move on. life's gonna be better and Jasper now I mean, a jasper we never knew. So Oh, Jasper will never know. So now we see the double Deuce and Cody sayings and there's no issues of any type. Everything's looking good in the world. And then we come back to the pond, the famous pond. I like to reference quite a bit. Sound what do we see?
Oh, is this a Swayze? Oh, it's
a rather Dalton and Doc a skinny doll at this point in time. He still does it. Doulton and Doc skinny dipping skinny
dipping to end the fantastic. You know, it's like all is right in the world. He's found true love. He has lost his mentor. But you know what, if we check back in on Dalton, like years down the road?
I bet he's still in Jasper. Yeah, lay down some roots. I think Mayor? Yeah, I think hell after all this, were it not for him. Wesley would still be running the town. So believe me at the very least, Doulton deserves a plaque in the local park at the very least I
totally agree. So that's it. That's Roadhouse. We did it be by beat scene by scene breakdown. I took a couple hours of movies a couple of hours, so that happens or just close to it. I still have a couple of trivia things to mention, because I gave one away early. Let me just bang these out real fast. Sure. Yeah. So a net binning was originally cast as Doc. Oh, she was replaced by Kelly Lynch, who was under contract to United artist. Lynch claims that bidding was fired due to a lack of chemistry with Patrick Swayze.
Or you go to chemistry
Hall if they don't have it. They don't have
it. No and you move on. It goes back to the old Eric Stoltz and Back to the Future. Eric Stoltz is fantastic. Fantastic. But in that role, and maybe not and then Michael J. Fox comes in and saves the day. No different. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with an aesthetic. She's fantastic. But yeah, you need that chemistry.
Absolutely. Director rowdy Harrington said that the movies Umer is somewhat intentional as he wanted the fights to resemble a keystone cops melee.
I was thinking WWE mainly because I saw Terry Funk there and I'm I'm thinking that in my head, but yeah, just utter mayhem. Some of these barroom brawls utter may have meant so so Fanta so much to see you have to watch it over and over. Yeah, see other leaders even begin
to do it justice. The movie is a spectacle. Watch it. Those scenes are just like, wait, what? Yeah, well done. And he succeeded. There's a lot of humor in this movie. It works very well. Yeah, I applaud his efforts and everyone who fought at the double deuce. According to Sam Elliott, all of the actors did their own stunts. Well, they were all trained by Benny the jet are quitters. Oh, wow. I heard this name before.
Oh, yeah, he used to have Benny's jet centers in this area of a chain of like martial arts gyms around here when I was very young. I was supposed to join but never did. But I definitely know the name, okay.

Very graceful as you said. Now due to a knee injury he sustained he being Patrick Swayze sustained during filming, he had to turn down the role of Gabriel cash and Tango and Cash. How about that holy cow as well as Mike Harrigan and Predator two, he chose to make ghost as his follow up instead, as it was less physically strenuous.
Wait, so then Harrigan predator to went to Danny Glover. Exactly. Wow, interesting choice. Just you wouldn't have those guys at the same audition but yet here we are.
Here we are crazy. Wow. So that's all I got so
