I can't explain it. I just got a sore ass to prove it.
I love how you just sat down, that's what I would have done too.
Really I was so shocked. I had no idea what happened. It was very dramatic feeling.
I have the whole sequence of of photos if you need to se it.
How was the round on Chin Tonic?
It didn't feel like he was jumping as well as he can. It was sort of an odd course I thought. A little counterintuitive in a lot of places, which can be good, you know, just to kind of keep us on our toes. But it definitely felt maybe not as smooth as some rounds. But you know, he tried hard. We had sort of just sort of a messed up day, he pulled the shoe right before I was about to go and then you know, he's a very hot blooded horse so kind of the start-stop thing with him would be kind of not the ideal scenario for us to jump well. Maybe that contributed to just not maybe feeling as good as normal. But you know, he's a quality horse and he tried hard. So he left them up. I think I'll touch that last one pretty good, but got a bit lucky. And, you know, now we'll go on to tomorrow.
I think I saw you take a deep breath after that last jump
I'm kind of just read this day over with. It's been an odd day and the wind has been crazy and just what happened with Timmy was very sort of out of character but that's just horses.
Did you notice that the Liverpool had gotten scrutched up? Did you see that at all?
I noticed when I was riding to it, that it was just set very oddly. It almost looked offset. And, but I had no idea what had happened.
It was like scrunched up in the middle.
Bobby just told me. So kudos to Bobby for rushing out there to save it. But no anyways, it's just been one of those days, you know?
And obviously you're aiming for other things this spring. So your plan tomorrow is to...?
I think wer're gonna go out there and try to give him a strong ride around and I kind of want to see how he copes with a course like this. He's not inexperienced now, but I think I plan to go and try to be competitive.
This could be potentially your third consecutive year winning. How's that make you feel?
No different really. Yeah, I mean, I haven't given it a bit of thought. I just like Carolina like the event and just want to try to give my horses a good go tomorrow. Same thing I do every weekend. So that's all.
When you've got a day like today where things go wrong and just unexpected things, like how do you kind of mentally...?
You just got to forget about it I guess, you know? My bum hurts a little bit but other than that, I tried to just put it out of my mind. Stuff happens you got a little bit just let it kind of... You gotta be a goldfish. Ted Lasso.
Have you watched the new season? I'm waiting to get home yeah, just came out this week.
What factors into your decision to bring your horses here? Obviously this is this is the first FEI of the season and it's obviously a tough one. But it's a great event. So do you build your calendar around this event? Or how does how do you kind of factor?
Yeah, typically. I think it's just a good event to sort of get your horses ready for a five star if that's what you're aiming for. And for me, it's served me well in the past I think, feeling like I get my horses prepped around a track that has a little bit of bulk to it. And I think this year is no different.
Is there anything else out on the cross country that you thought might keep you up at night or anything?
It's always kind of big. A lot of the questions are sort of -- it's a similar track to last year, but just think he's made it slightly more technical. So you just got to be on your toes and you know he's got a lot of big jumps out there but I think for the most part I usually ride pretty well. So I'll try to do that.
