Hello, hello, hello, everyone, I'm very happy to be here to talk to you about creating the perfect bedtime routine for your one year old. And it could even be for ages, I'd say probably up to five, maybe even more, maybe even a little bit older. So I'm going to tell you the three steps, my favorite steps to get that really good bedtime routine. And then you say good night and your kid gets to sleep on their own, you don't hear peep from them until morning.
So here's the first thing you're going to do, you are going to get your child to brush their teeth and brush their hair. Now let's say they have curly hair, so you don't brush it every day. But maybe you have to comb it or put some kind of product in it for you, that would be considered the brush part of brushing their hair.
But let's get back to the teeth. So brushing their teeth, that can be quite a challenge. Many one year olds are like, "No! Leave my teeth alone Mommy." So I have a couple tools that you can purchase that could really help you. So let me get that. These are things my daughter uses. Now she's she never really gave us a hard time with brushing teeth. But had she I would have purchased some of these things to help her because I'm sure it would have helped. So there's this little tooth timer. So I'll flip it and you can see closer there. Okay, so that shows them how long they need to brush. So once all the pink sand is at the bottom, brushing time is over. So putting that limit on it can really help. So if your child's like, No, I don't want to, well, this kind of makes it like a game. Right? It makes it a little more entertaining for them and fun. Now maybe you have a toothbrush like this for them. Plain. Oh except for Moana. But it's nothing doesn't make noise or sing or anything. And this is just they're not quite interested in that I would perhaps look into like an electric toothbrush like this something that they like. My daughter loves unicorns, and they're the unicorn. And it's a Spinbrush. So it's running low on batteries, but you get the idea.
That can make it a little bit more fun for them. With buying these things, you don't want to get into the habit where they're like, "Oh, I want something new and different." And then you know, before you know it, you have 10 Different toothbrushes and timers when the sand is all different color. And then you're like, "Oh, would you just brush your teeth!" So maybe get one or two kind of novelty items. And that's it, then they still are expected to brush their teeth, even when they're like really tired of this mom, you know. So you don't want to set that precedent that tone that when you get bored with this, we'll get something else. So the first thing of the bedtime routine brush so your brush teeth, brush hair.
And then the second part is book. I brought some books to show you just I just want to make it super, super clear what I mean when I say book. So for one year old, this is like a super great book for bedtime. So it's, you know, one of those board books and it's not super long. It has a cute little story. It's a very comforting story. It's nothing like too exciting. It's not a book where there's like things popping off of the pages and there's lots of music and spin this and you pull this flap, it's nothing like that. And that would be certainly for some one year olds would be too stimulating. So bedtime, we want them to like settle. We don't want them to be like yeah, let's play. Let's have fun. Right? So this is a great one. This one to never touch a panda and it's you know, like rubbery and bumpy. Now this you'd have to use your own discretion because this could be too stimulating for a child but others it would be just fine. You know? Word book and it's you know, a cute story. Nothing scary. Nothing too intense. Okay, so your first things brush hair brush teeth. Second thing book. The third thing bed time so that means they're while they should be in their bed when you're doing the book when you're reading book and then after that it's lay here in bed. Hugs and kisses Good night turn off the light. Bye! Sleep well! Leave the room they get to sleep.
Alright, so those are my top three tips, my top three steps for bedtime. And one thing I don't want to forget Last but certainly not least, you want to make it boring. So the more boring and more predictable you can make the bedtime routine, the better So, by boring, that means just we're not going to read any books that are too, too intense. Brushing teeth is going to be, we're not going to make it this big exciting kind of thing. But you have to be careful because like having a spin brush and the timer, it could make it too exciting for them. And you'd have to try something different. But yep, so brush teeth book. A time make it boring. Alright, thank you for watching. Feel free to leave me any questions or comments and sleep well.
