Welcome back to another broadcasts of city times here at Harry West gym for sophomore night the final game of the St. City knights season and a lot is on the line tonight. You're here with me Joe Panik and Vince outlaw as always great to be here, Joe. Very exciting day tonight the 23 and four knights will host the 19 and eight MiraCosta College Spartans. Now they're playing for right now the Knights have officially clinched their conference championship position, but if MiraCosta wins they will then share it if the Knights win then they will own it outright it will be theirs and no one else is the Knights are 14 and one and Mira Mira Costa is 13 and to the only loss and conference for the Knights going back to January 24 was at Mira Costa Spartans and they beat them 78 to 72. After that, like after that loss, the Knights have now rattled off seven straight wins with their most recent one being an explosive explosion on offense was vs. Palomar just a couple days ago, beating them 125 to 95. I believe it was their highest point total in a game this season. Yes, it was Joe. Vince. This is the biggest game of the year for the night so far. And it will decide whether they're the sole owners of the conference. How do the Knights finish the job? Get revenge on the Spartans for the loss earlier this season. Well, Joe,
it is great to be back here and we've been looking forward to a game like this all year, the game to to decide who wins the championship. So back in back in their previous game on the 24th when the Spartans won, the Knights could not finish the job. They were up eight at halftime. Knights are obeyed at halftime and and they let the the they let the Spartans come back and outscored them by 14 points in the second half for a six point win 7872 In that game, the the Knights did not rebound. Well, the Spartans beat them on the boards 37 to 25. So that's one thing that they're going to really need to do, and the player that they're going to need to really key on there is Kai Burdick. Number 41. For the Spartans, he's their leading rebounder, one of the leading rebounders that he's number two in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference, so they're going to need to do something to attempt to keep him off the boards and try to not let any of the other Spartans get there either. Another thing that that is going to make a difference in this game would be the free throw shooting, or three point shooting I should say. The Knights in that early matchup shot 21% 14% less than their season average from beyond the arc. Hopefully the home rims here at Harry with Jim will do the trick for them. If KJ Bradley has a game like he did against Palomar last Wednesday, where he went eight for eight. And from the three point line scoring 41. His career high, adding 10 rebounds, five assists, five steals to excuse me, 10 assists, five rebounds, five steals, then the Knights have a very good chance to snatch sole possession of the PCAC conference title tonight here on SR nine senior night for junior college. Yes, which is sophomore night and and also a lot of festivities here in celebration for Black History Month. So there's a lot going on in the gym. It's going to be a big crowd. Go Knights indeed it would be their first conference championship since 2018. Although I believe they'll hang a banner whether it's Co Co Conference Champions or soul conference game champions but you got to believe there's going to be so little a little bit more pride on the line to win this as a sole conference championship and a lot on the line for Mira Costa to even get a chance to be a conference champion. Something that's really standing out as we said before is the free throws nine for 10. And I was surprised to hear Kobe Smith with 10 points, but he's six for seven from the line.
There are shooting 90% from the line right now and he said nine out of 10 71% free throw shooting. That's what you need to do in a game like this. Take advantage of what the other team gives you and if the Knights are giving you fouls, you better make your free throws. And Spartans are only one night fall away from going into the double bonus so

interesting is you got to it's funny because if he was under the hope you wouldn't you wouldn't want him take the shot but when he's at the three you know he can make a mess and drive into the basket and get some space
well you had a you had a good lane to the bucket but when you're going up against you know half a half a foot difference
six foot allowance tall long arms and verdict is doesn't seem to be the slowest player either has good athleticism as well and good moves can
can do that. But I we're not going to see him for the rest of the half I would imagine he's got to fall down

and that was a good game too. So they they've held their own with some of that other competition. We know things have changed teams have improved. We've seen improvement in the teams here in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference during the year by The Knights also have improved playing elite defense, causing lots of turnovers and then running the ball and converting.

so we're here with KJ Bradley, welcome back City Times presents an interview with KJ Bradley here after winning the conference championship completing I'm assuming the first goal of hopefully many more goals as you go on throughout the season. What was the few minds don't mind telling us? What did Charlaine say going into half you obviously made that incredible three pointer to take the three point lead but you came out and that second half and it just it just took off your team exploded for I believe at one point was a 15 to 415 to
215 did to run in the first three minutes of the of the second half.
So what changed going into that second half for you guys,
knowing that we got to be tougher. That was the first part was kind of like two days to go out there the first half. There's no one that we got to come out against a good team was a good team. So there's no we got to be more tougher to know basically.
Was there any talk at all about the last game and how they came back? You guys were up eight at halftime and then first game, and then they outscored you by 14 Was there any kind of thoughts about you know that and that you guys needed to really step on the pedal?
Like I said, they it's a team that doesn't give up. That's first off. So that's coming out this game we know we got is gonna be a dogfight the whole time. And we got to do what we do and be efficient at the same time.
So speaking of efficiency, well 1212 assists one turnover for the team tonight. You guys really took care of the ball tonight. That something you guys were really trying to eat?
Definitely, definitely. Turnovers lose game. So
yeah, and you guys turned in, turned those turnovers into into almost like, over 20 points. So you guys were very much working. It seemed like doing that to you.
That was that was pretty much the plan. Get it off the rim and let's run and look for each other drive and keep driving and dump off put it down to St. Alex had a few donors. So that was pretty much our goal today.
So tell us about that. Tell us about that one pass about 10 minutes into the hat into the second half. You were down at that end. You saw Alex going. We were we saw we saw what was happening. We didn't think Alex really had that much of a lead on him. And you were way back there. What were you thinking on that?
I know him and he knows me. So I feel like if it was a turnover, I take accountability. If it was his fault he would take accountability so yeah, we had we had a pretty good lead into so I knew he was gonna run it go get it. He got a lot of heart so I
didn't he didn't dribble. He caught it just went right up with it. I was a beautiful face you play quarterback in high school are the key. All right. Well, you know some back I was a great fan. So we saw
you went out of the game with an injury. How are you feeling? What was that? I
was just cramping a little bit my hamstrings and my calf. Kind of normal now. I played through it was not too bad.
So looking at the season, you last year, you know what started off and then you got injured and and didn't have kind of the season that you were looking for last year? What was it like coming back, you know, this year, and then getting to this level now winning the conference. yourself. It was a,
I knew it's gonna be a whole new team. So basically, it was just like starting overall again, and I just wanted it to be the same outcome. Let's win that. First off. If I'm not getting 30 At least we win. I'm cool with winning. That's it.
And then any thoughts on the postseason, as you guys are kind of looking at that. You guys have anybody you want to play in particular?
It's not really haven't given that much thought. We just focus on today. Yeah.
celebrating tonight. Yeah. Excellent. I wanted to ask about the you hit Alex Crawford on the deep on the deep ball there already ran the deep route. And then you also hit him on a on alleyway there that I I don't know how you put that ball so high. And he got there. Do you guys ever just practice like how high can you go? And you try to hit that point? Because it seemed like there was very little margin for error?
No, I wouldn't say we practice but at practice, it happened a lot. Yeah, like he he expected me to pass the ball most of the time, because that's really kind of like what I do. Yeah, so he expected to pass most of the time. But we kind of got that connection to where he knows where it's gonna be or when it's coming. So is it like
a look, they're a little thing. You gotta give them some some flash? Because I've seen
about a foot and a half of over the rim. Yeah, but
looking back at the game Wednesday, you had just a unbelievable game, you know, 41 points. 10 assists this game, not that level, although your teammates, you know, all kind of contributed you had five or six in double figures tonight?
How do you feel about you know, you play in that kind of role, and then coming back and playing this kind of role tonight.
I say this kind of rose more of my game, you know, because I want to get everybody in a position to score and play defense is more of like a team sport anyway. Just Wednesday night, it was my night. You know, everybody had a nice Wednesday night just having to be my night.
So kind of random, random questions. But you guys started out slow ball teams really started out slow. No field goals within the first three or four minutes of the game. Were you guys tight? You know, as
everybody was just so anxious to play and score. Everything wasn't going in. We just had to calm down. Mitch was telling us calm down, calm down. It occurred to us and that's what happened.
What's it like playing with a crowd? That's great, biggest, biggest crowd of the year. And it's very,
I like it. You got some good fans. I didn't know our fans was good. I like it. Come on more. We'll
have to try to get everyone to come out.
We'll have to play it get some more out for the playoffs. But KJ, congratulations on a great, fantastic season. And win tonight. And the conference championship. Thank you.
