For is defending her COVID-19 nursing home policy under fire by Sam in Lansing tonight. Seven Action News reporter Brian Abel, talk to her one on one, he joins us live right now with what the governor is saying tonight, Brian.
Carolyn I asked the governor about this nursing home policy, just hours after a House subcommittee in Lansing was investigating it. But I also asked her for a timeline, and when to try casinos will open. Republican state leaders have called for you to reverse your nursing home policy allowing COVID Positive and negative patients in the same building. Is this something you are considering.
So there hasn't been one nursing home that has taken a COVID-19 patient that they didn't think that they were prepared to care for. That's something that I think has gotten lost in some of the recording and that's why I wanted to, to make sure to share that with you. We know that patients who are residents need a place to go, upon being discharged and so that was one way of doing this as Republican state leaders Monday urged the governor to change course, other states such as New York, found that the suggestion of placing recovering COVID patients, and nursing homes was not a good idea and was actually disastrous, I think we've learned a lot in the last 10 weeks we're going to continue to work with the administration in nursing homes across Michigan we know that older Michiganders are uniquely vulnerable, the novel nature of this virus means that we're always learning and we're always going to have to continue to evolve,
looking down the road, the governor telling us when Detroit casinos can reopen their doors and who will be enforcing capacity requirements, who enforces those requirements, as we've already seen some patios, bars and restaurants.
So, you know, the, it's very important that business owners are observing the protocols that have been promulgated, as we think about casinos for instance, they're scheduled to come online once we move a state into Phase Five. We're getting close, I would anticipate that happening, I said well in advance of July 4 As far as restaurants and businesses, you know, the vast majority of them are licensed by the state. They're also rely on the public feeling that they're going to be safe when they go and patronize these, these businesses.
Now I also asked her about the signature petition that will be going around asking for her removal via a recall election. Her response to that and the entire interview and W X Y Z. COMM reporting live Brian APR seven actually Brian thank we.
