Hi there, and welcome to the fourth episode of Sheila's shout-outs, bonus content from the Growing Small Town Nebraska podcast. My name is Sheila Jenkinson on these shout-outs, I talked about my favorite places, spaces, foods, events, activities, and more that I've discovered either while growing up in Nebraska or by traveling throughout the state. Don't forget the Growing Small Town Nebraska podcast regular episodes come out the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. On those we interview business and community leaders about what they're doing to revitalize the small towns throughout the Cornhusker State.
All right, you guys, this is gonna be a quick Sheila shout-out episode. This time, I have been super busy. There's some big changes coming up with the podcast. You'll find out more about that later on this month. And we'll bring you up to date on those things. And also a lot of traveling going on. Here is a quick Sheila's shout out episode before we bring you the standard episodes this month. Marcie and I already did our recordings for the episodes that are coming out this April. We've got some exciting things coming your way, including our first ever sponsored episode. So look forward to that one as well.

All right, well, let's get to this here. So you might have noticed the reel that I shared recently on our Facebook page for Growing Small Town Nebraska that is from the Cuming County Fair. So a shout out to well, the Cuming County Fair and (and) I'll do more of that later on. Plus, we do have an episode with David Branch coming up this month. But this first, shout-out goes specifically at the fair to the idea that you can get fabulous steaks.
So I did not know. It was my first time at the Cuming County Fair this last August, I did not realize that at a certain point, the Cuming County Feeders Association puts on this steak feed. So all of a sudden, as I left my booth there, I smell steak and I come back and I'm like something smells amazing. And Vanessa and David, who are working their booths right next to me from Cuming County, they said, Oh yeah, you gotta get over there. It's the Cuming County Feeders Association, and they grill steaks. And they only do it for a short amount of time. So you have to hurry. And I'll tell you, that line was super long. They had a complete system going on though, and they fed just a ton of people at a reasonable price. I think just so you could taste the great Nebraska beef that is available. So first shout-out goes to them on this episode.
The next shout-out I want to give is the Norfolk Public Library. I really enjoy the new library. And I go there as often as I possibly can, the number of public libraries a place where if I'm in between meetings, and I need a place to go to maybe get some work done in a quiet environment. And I love to be surrounded by books. It's just who I am. I go to the Norfolk Public Library. So this winter, I signed up for their winter reading challenge. There were a couple of ways you could participate. But basically, they had a reading list of different types of books, or stories that you would read, then you kept track of it on a log. So you kept track of those things and what you read on a log, and then you earned prizes. So I do have the picture that I'm going to share of the great prizes that I earned. But the best thing that it did for me this January, I wanted to really challenge myself to watch less TV and read more books. I adore reading it just seems like it's one of those things that I used to want to do all the time. And I still do, but to pick up a book seems harder than sitting down and watching TV. If you know what I'm talking about. I always sign up for the Goodreads annual reading challenge. And I didn't do so hot last year. So I upped my reading goal this year. And I tell you what I did really well. I know I'm gonna beat the goal from last year in books read because I kicked it off with that reading challenge. It was just a little extra incentive. And then when I turned in my sheet, I got some cool prizes, including a brand new book. They had a whole shelf of different books you could pick out if you completed so many of the reading challenge. I got a book worm engraved keychain that was made in their Makerspace and some Norfolk Chamber of Commerce cash, always a good thing and then a magnet that was made right there as well. They do a lot of different programs throughout the year, not just for kids but for all ages. So when you're in the Norfolk Public Library or you go to their website, make sure you look and see what's going on. They have a calendar they put out each month sometimes they have different contests. They have different age clubs and groups, they have adult coloring time. I mean, just a huge amount of things that you can enjoy through the Norfolk Public Library. I adore libraries, so I hope to shout-out more throughout the state of Nebraska as I continue on with Sheila shout-outs.
And my final shout-out for this episode is the Coffee Corner that is in Sidney, Nebraska. Marcie and I, along with Kendra, we stopped into the Coffee Corner, more than once, and I have I'm going to share a reel from that. I have some great pictures. They have, of course, your standard (not standard) special flavored coffees that you can get, all kinds it's a huge menu. They also have other beverages that you can get. They have the freeze dried candies in there, because they also have a gift shop. I think I bought some wine slushie mixes while I was there and more. If you're in Sidney, make sure one of the places that you save time for, maybe more than once, is the Coffee Corner.
That is really all the time that I have for Sheila shout-outs today. I know it's quick, and I hope to bring you more as we go along. Coming up on the next Sheila's shout-out...I don't know. I haven't even planned it out. I'm just being real here. But something I'm also going to share another episode of somebody else's podcasts that I was on. And that'll be kind of a fun little backstory going on. So we'll be sharing that coming up as soon as I get the go ahead on that. Meanwhile, thank you again for listening. Keep growing those small towns throughout the Great State of Nebraska
