Start. I'm wondering if you could explain a little bit. What is different, if anything about your campaign strategy, this election cycle compared to last election cycle?
Well, last election cycle, we performed all other Republican candidates on the ballot, including Laxalt. Lombardo, as well as the Secretary of State. We all raised every other candidate besides one and the assembly races, and we hit over 10,000 doors. And we ran a really good campaign, I always approach these situations in these questions, with three easy questions. Myself, what did I do right, what did I do wrong? And what do I work on? Well, as I said, we ran a really good campaign, we didn't run a great campaign and some of the things we missed the messages on this one, we did invalid harvest, we didn't collect ballots, the Republican Party really didn't have an answer for this, we really didn't know how to approach it. And we got our butts kicked, because of it. 62.5% of all the votes my opponent have collected in the general, she collected in the ballot harvesting in the mail in ballots, something that we've corrected by developing what is known as a ballot safeguard program. And this worthy voter, if they don't trust the mail, can contact schedule a pickup for their neighbors and themselves. And then we could actually pick up the ballot, the schedule, and there'll be a person that shows up in uniform, that to their address at the scheduled time. And then once they pick it up, they can actually track it on their phone from the time it's picked up to the time it's delivered. So that way, they can actually maintain the integrity of it. And one of the biggest challenges we had in 2020 was the chain of custody of the ballots and and the trust that goes with that. So we're working on that. The second thing that we did not do well was the abortion issue. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party has taken over this issue. And because they prey upon the unfortunate ignorance of the population that doesn't understand that there's no politician can do anything about this particular issue. Because it was put out for referendum in 1991. But people voted on it and said, We are an abortion state. And there's nothing any political body or group can do. Not the Democrats, not the Republicans, but they prey on the fact that people don't know this. And so they think this false, this false lie, and they think that there's something we're going to do like take away their rights. Because of this fear mongering that they've done. We didn't have a good answer for that question. So no matter what we put out there, they put out terrible lies about the abortion issue, knowing that the people didn't know it enough to know that there's nothing any politician could ultimately do. And now what do you have, you now have the Democratic Party wanting full gestational abortions clear up to the time of birth, they want to kill the child. I mean, that is just absolutely insane. And that's what you get when you don't have you have a population who unfortunately doesn't know all of the laws and rules. And they need to be told, we did not do a good a good job in my last race, getting that message out, we will do a way better job and have done a way better job of that cycle. So the abortion issue, and we did invalid harvest those tissues, we will have corrected. I have a new campaign team new campaign manager, new campaign signs or signs have been up since June or a frames have been up since I think November, we've hit 4500 doors at this particular point. A flyers are on point on bail was on point. So we're running a very sharp, very organized, but I must say I am very proud of the fact that we're running a lien race where our fiscal responsibility starts at home. And in order for me to run the race, and I look back to my previous race, and I fell victim to a lot of wasted spend, not knowing the truly the platform in which politics exists. Since then, I have probably run and spend about a quarter of what I spent my first race and do a way more efficient way more technologically sound, utilizing a lot of the tools we can in the private sector versus the public sector inside politics. So my race is much more efficient, actually way more pro efficient, as opposed to eat fish. And we're really running on solid ground now. So those are just some of the differences. And I hope I
answered your question. Yeah, that was really helpful. I appreciate you laying all that out. So I guess I'm going back to your first point about the the feature you're offering to voters who may not trust voting by mail. Is that a because I haven't heard as a system before. So is that just run by your campaign?
It's run. It's run. Ultimately, it's what I can do. For my campaign, I would I have invited other candidates just being finished in regards to the software package that we're bringing out to be able to track it. But we're believing that we're going to be we're confident in our skill set and we're confident in our ability to remain recognition to win the primary and we want to share this with every Republican so that we can truly have a better representation in Carson City have a fair, you know, a fair society with equal we do not need the Democrats that having a super majority that is going to Governor losing his detail. If people think things are expensive than that now, just imagine if we didn't have the governor's veto protecting us.
And so you mentioned on this ballot collection program, that you would have people in uniform getting ballots from voters and their neighbors. Do you mean like police uniform white uniform you're talking about,
there'll be there'll be identified uniforms for the ballot safeguard program so that when people come up, they can feel safe to somebody's not just showing up at their door, they'll actually be in a uniform, there'll be able to track their ballot, they scan the ballot, and then they can actually watch the ballot as it goes and gets delivered. And we have suggested people mail within the mail is safe. What you can't control is people collecting ballots from people that don't live there filling them out and turning them in when we know there's a lot of that happening. So this time we put the mail itself and the opportunity to mail it into the safe process.
And I'm curious, you mentioned the the veto power, and that's obviously what government Bardos cares most about. So what does it like to be running against the Lombarda machine or just a candidate endorsed by the governor?
Well, first and foremost, the Republican Party of Nevada does not need more division. We need leadership wave, which is way different than legislation. Legislators are not necessarily leaders, and we need leadership badly. In our assembly, I want to point out that there are not three equal branches of government. There are three branches of government, with by far the legislative branch, being the most powerful for a reason is because it's of the people. So none of the legislators work for the governor. He's in executive branch, we're in the legislative branch, and it was designed for a reason. I have no animosity towards the governor. He had every right to choose his particular candidate. She's a nice woman. I took her to lunch when I found out she was running against me. She's a fellow Republican, and he is nice. And she's a former police officer. And she's nice, but I don't think either one of those qualifies her to be a good leader or legislator, not saying she is or she isn't. But nice, got us. Our butts kicked as Republicans in the last legislative cycle. I know we participated in it. We didn't get it a lot of Republican wins, and we didn't get a lot of things accomplished. In a balanced legislative session. I think Matt Schlapp even talked about some of the CPAC talking about how Nevada is so poorly even under a Republican governor. And that's just because we had no foot studying in the state assembly or the State Senate. And we're hoping to fix that. So I've I have no animosity towards the governor, he has full choice. I mean, she probably felt that he had a communication level with her that he may not have had with me. But I have no animosity towards him or my opponent. We're here for Republican Red wins. That's why I'm running. I believe I'm the best candidate. If you go to my website, you'll find I narrated the entire Nevada constitution. From start to finish,
I did see that that's what I stand on.
It's very easy. When you when you are when people ask me all the time, are you willing to reach across the aisle? And the answer is yes, absolutely. As a leader of many businesses, sometimes we have to make sacrifices in choices that we call compromises. But there's just certain compromises that I won't make in any of those are on my morality. So I will stand strongly on the Bible, I stand strongly on the constitution of Nevada, and the constitution of our country. And if anybody has any questions, and this is the problem that I probably have the most with most of the legislative body in both houses is that how much time are they spending reading the Constitution? Because that is what we're taking an oath to uphold. Not the embargo machine, not the Republican or Democratic Party, we're taking off an oath to uphold the constitution of this state and country. And that is what we all should be required to do, and we should have read it. So that's one of the reasons why you'll find it on my website. So we can use it as a tool, Democrats and Republicans alike. In case you don't know what that article is. It's narrated with subtitles on it for you as well.
Um, yeah, it's interesting that you kind of brought up the the, just the how you're how you're approaching going again, As your opponent right now, and I noticed online that you had made over 218,000 steps this election cycle, which was, which was a cool tracker to see. I'm curious how you in your when you're having those steps meeting with voters? How are you differentiating yourself from your opponent?
Well, I'm a physician. 25 years ago, when I took an oath, I took an oath to love every single human being that God put in front of me, whether they were black, white, gay, or straight, Muslim or Christian, I took an oath to love every human being, and I'm gonna do the same thing in Carson City. And then at the same time, I'm a businessman. And what made Trump so successful was his business policies. And I believe personally, we need more medical doctors, and more doctors, in general, in politics, we approach things very dogmatically different. Medical is always a win win win, win win, because we want to do anything, most physicians that I know, really want to have a better outcome for their clients or their patients. So we always approach every situation is looking for the best outcome, and a win win most. And I would like to include myself in that group of physicians have to be great communicators, oftentimes have really bad information. And we need someone who can handle that, whether it be a triage situation inside an emergency room, or be handing a young man, a diagnosis of testicular cancer, I promise you, there is never any good conversation that you know, that ensues after that either one of those scenarios. So one, I don't rattle dritten determination, I'm gonna stand up. So the Constitution because I've read it. And I believe the difference between my opponent nine is that she doesn't really want this she's running because she claims and says that they asked her to run, which is great. I don't know if the hard work is there, I'm up every morning, I go to bed, my enemies up already goes to bed hour later than me. So I'm up every day with a tenacious, I'm up at five, and I stay up. So I possibly can't get up anymore. Because I want this very badly. Because the people of Nevada deserve leadership, not just more legislators. Humility is the key to leadership.
And I guess going off just the conversations that you're having with voters I saw on your just the platform tab on your website, was very extensive, which was very helpful, helpful for me to get a better sense of your policies. I'm curious just when you're talking with voters, which which topics come up the most, and which ones do you focus on in maybe like an elevator pitch the most?
First, thank you for that question. That's a good question. And every individual voter has an issue that is kind of germane and important to them. There's a reason why God gave me two years in one mouse, and that is to listen, and I go back to my being a physician, I have to listen in order to get to the solution. So when you're at the door, and you're knocking on a voter, and let me be real straightforward with you, this is not a game. This is not a joke. People are hurting. And when I show up at the door, they're scared. They're frightened, they can't afford it. And when I show up at the door, and they find out a Republican, they find out opposition and they look me up and they realize that I've been serving this community for 25 years, through nonprofits to board memberships. I've started suit programs for veterans coming out of prison. You name it, I've done it, because I love this community, they start to realize and make it hope. But there's no way we're going to survive another Biden term, no way. I mean, what used to cost people $57,000 Now it cost them 106,000. single family home ownership is down almost never to return. So what this gentleman is doing to our country is an absolute travesty. So the economy comes up a lot because people are hurting. What also comes up is border security. You know, if you were to look at the homes 150 years ago, and you looked at the home, just find one thing in common that you don't find today, there were no locks on the doors 150 years ago, now when I'm walking and knocking, everybody has a ring hammer, everybody has a metal door. That's how afraid people are. And unfortunately, it is the responsibility of the governors responsibility of the legislators and the police and all of your autocracy that goes around to make people feel safe. And if you were to add up how many rings and how many alarms and how many gated doors, people don't feel safe right now. And the fact that this clowns had our open borders and the way they have millions and millions of people because they want to steal the vote. When all those people and you have you have to leave the military without a vaccine, but Well, that's millions of people in without checking to see if they're contaminated with anything Cost hypocrisy is just absolutely terrible. So the economy, border security, education is a joke. I'm the only one I've been searching. I traveled the country, in my off season, if you will, talking to other legislators, making on my own nickel, traveling around the country to seven different states and meeting legislators and asking them what's working in your state, what can I bring back to mind? One of the things, you know, if you start to look at education, I was the only candidate that probably has a legitimate plan that we can take and get us from 50 to 25, and eight years. And we can do that. And simple things. If we got all of our students to run a timetables one to 12. By the fifth grade, we moved from 50 to 42. If we had English proficiency, by the fifth grade, we moved from 42 to 36, that they learned a language or an instrument, we go from 36 to 28. And if they weren't a skilled drill in a trade, we're in the top 20 fonts. And all of these things, if you ask the great educators we have in our state, they'd say this, just as a no brainer, we're just not teaching. But you know, what we do have? We are the most progressive school district in the country. And you know what that says to a business leader that wants to bring his corporation here, go to Florida, go to Texas, go to Tennessee, but do not stop in Nevada, because their education is 50th in the nation, but they are the most progressive school district in the country. So it's sad.
And yeah, I appreciate you laying out all of that for me. I think one thing you mentioned earlier, in what you're doing differently this election cycle, you mentioned ballot harvesting, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I saw once on your campaign website, there was a video on election integrity. That said you supported eliminating the use of ballot harvesting. I'm curious if you could just kind of elaborate your official policy on that and how it plays into your campaign strategy.
Well, you have to play by the rules that are set and the rules that are already in place. If I had my way, I'd like to go back to pre COVID rules where we had mail in ballots by request, rather than just sending them out to every single human being who's ever lived that one particular prop or property, we're dead people. Or vacant lots, or vacant commercial buildings, or commercial buildings, I want to get rid of that. So we need to clean up their voter rolls. First ballot harvest harvesting is concerned, it's a legal way of collecting legal ballots. I have to use that and you asked me what I why I lost, my opponent did it better than the last time she will not do it better than me this time, that cut and dry if I'm elected. And when I'm elected, we need voter ID. I mean, absolutely, I mean watermark, we could watermark our ballots, there are things that we could do to secure the integrity of our elections. But anytime anybody feels if they're going to lose the opportunity to control the elections, they fight against it. So ballot harvesting is what is the legal law of Nevada. And I will do it. And I will make sure that we become experts at it. And then when we get in there, we can control and take that power, maybe we can make some of these changes. So that voter ID and mail in ballots by request is back on the books, signature verification improvements, cleaning up our voter rolls, hiring maybe an independent Technology Lab to evaluate all the voting machines, like your dominion, because the median has never been searched. And if you look what's happening in Michigan, and if you look what's happening in Georgia, you will realize that hey, Sidney Powell is not going to have to pay that absorbent crazy she has from dominion, because now they're finding problems. So again, I'd like to see us go back to three COVID, where we belong, where we didn't have all this craziness. And just get back to where the voters felt safe again. And the last time I can think of that was in 2016, even though two questions on that one, too. But anyhow, it's just time to get back to again what we all know and that is voter ID watermark our ballots, mailing by request. That's probably what I would probably say on the ballot harvesting question. Sorry to
be long winded. No, no, I mean, no such thing as a long winded interview. So I appreciate you laying all that out. You use it against me. So yeah, I guess I think my only other question is you mentioned that one of your, the changes you're making the selection cycles how you message around and abortion. I'm curious now that in a primary when you're fighting when you're going against another Republican, if that strategy comes into play often or if it's more a change in strategy, if you are in the general election again,
I'm a scientist, my man. So the truth is, right now all literature, all education, all peer reviewed journals, magazines, everything declares two things. One, that there are X, X and X, Y chromosomes in that particular order, and nothing else that's viable. So I will always accept that there's XX and XY, male and female, two sexes, there is no other discussion for me on it. It's almost silly to me, it doesn't make sense. It's in the book of Genesis, it's in the book of Matthew, we know all of this, the second life begins at conception. And even though that's when I believe life begins, there is nothing that I can do in the state of Nevada, like it or hate it. On this issue. The people have voted, they have spoken, and I have to accept it. So it's a 24 week abortion state, that is where it is now, unless they petition to get full gestational abortions, which I am vehemently opposed to. I believe that in the life and protection of the mother, by Judeo Christian outlook says that I must protect that mother. And in the presence of race, or incest, I would understand why a family of great consequence would have this deliberation on such a topic, even though I understand it, having a daughter myself. This is one of those things where I believe if I could really touch on this issue, I approach it as a physician. This is a HIPAA. Right? Why are we violating a woman's right to privacy? When Why is a abortion any different than back pain, or neck pain when it comes to privacy? I cannot release a woman's records in regards to her when she comes in for the measles or mumps and I shouldn't be able to release those records, whether it's abortion. So the one thing I probably different than most of my colleagues on the Republican side is is my strength and HIPAA, I do not on either side, we cannot violate your person's HIPAA. I don't understand why abortion is on blast. Why is this medical condition that is the code that is given? Why is it on blast for everybody to know this issue should be dealt with inside the family with this inside the church, and they should make the best decision for their family in that regard? I do not support late term abortions. Unfortunately, we're at 24 weeks stay in this. And that's what it is. I accept it. I honor it. Don't like it. But it is the way that it is and there's nothing I can do about it.
Yeah, I appreciate you clarifying your stance on that. And yeah, that those were honestly the main questions. Is there anything else that is a big part of the campaign of your campaign that I missed or anything else you wanted to get out of this conversation?
Just take the fact that we need leadership, both sides, people to reach across the aisle, there's so much screaming, everybody's screaming at each other. I'm also one of the very few America first candidates, my opponent has not definitely a distinction that I made. She got the endorsement of the governor and a few other, you know, get along to play along opportunities, and I respect that. But when it comes down to it, I gained the respect and endorsement of the veterans, which is important, because I've advocated for housing, I work on getting them their DBQ for their medical benefits, so that these people who are suffering, because we lose 23 veterans every single day due to mental health issues, and I want to put it as limit that so that one's too many. We have more veterans dying in from suicide than we do in battle. And that is just terrible. That means we're not handling our people. We're not thinking we're being a steward of our servicemen and people and that is a reflection of our government. And unfortunately, that is a reflection of our society at the time. And we can do better. So if there's anything that you want wanted to add is that I want you to put in there the mental health is I'm a huge proponent of helping and protecting and developing better ways for us to deal with the mental health issue. One in five homes are dealing with it. We've had over 230 million prescriptions for antidepressants, and anxiety medications. We're now an overly medicated society and I will write legislation to offer people alternatives naturally, as well as offering alternatives for people to so we don't have to put everybody on Big Pharma. They're not creating cures they're creating consumers in a discount poisoning our entire society. And as a physician, I can guarantee you I know this issue better than my opponent.
Yeah, I appreciate you laying out the your policy goals for mental health. I think that's it's almost every candidate I talked to mentioned smile The whole thing in some capacity so yeah but thank you so much again for being so generous with your time I really appreciate it
