So Eduardo is going to find somebody with a big mouth to come and be the analog interface to this digital school in which we're participating. And I think that's a very interesting aspect of the Internet is that it's an interface to a non digital world. Right? We we live still in a very analog world. In fact, when we were having virtual ICANN meetings for a couple of years, we were confronted with the limitations of all being remote, and the limitations of not having the social components of and the social lubrication, we say sometimes, of being in person of being able to meet people in between the meetings, being able to meet people over meals and talk to people across the table. It created a type of isolationism and and we say smokestacks sometimes are where people go back to their, their tribes, more so in a virtual world than they do when they're in person. Accountability went down on the Internet, versus in person, when you're sitting across from the table from somebody, you behave better than when you are somewhere else in the world. So these are all things that we discover is that we are still as amazing as the Internet is it still exists and still, in an analog world is still exists in a human world, this isn't the matrix, right? It's still something that we need to find a way to interact with. It's still something that exists separately from us as human beings. And so that's when we start talking about Internet governance. Sometimes it seems like it's an anomaly at some time, it seems like an oxymoron. Like, what does that even mean? Because the beauty of the Internet in some ways is how ungoverned it is. Right? That's what we talk about so much that, wow, it was free of regulation, and free of any dominance by any party. And that's what allowed it to grow. And yet we find ourselves trying to backtrack and find rules of the road. You know, okay, now we've created this great superhighway, but what are the speed limits that we want to set to prevent so many accidents? So with every new advance, there's this notion of well, what do we need to bring with us from what we've learned before, we don't really throw it away. And so as governments become involved in Internet governance, we think to ourselves, oh, they're going to bring all of the old baggage associated with government associated with our new fast system that we have. And they sort of nod knowingly in government and say, well, you'll see, you'll need us to be a part of this. Because that interface is still exists. And so a lot of what we talk about when talking about Internet governance, is how this crazy fast superhighway of information interfaces with human beings. And that's a lot of what we'll be talking about. So, but this isn't about me, I'm just your emcee. I'm going to be talking to you in between sessions and bringing you back and trying to get you organized. But what I really want to do is introduce Eduardo Diaz, the president of the North American School of governance to give a little bit of introductory remarks. Thank you, sir. Thank you.

Welcome. Welcome, everyone. DNSSEC 2020 for NASA stands for the North American School of Internet governance. And we're doing this university DAP University, which is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We're very thrilled to have you join us for what it promises to be an enlightening and engaging few days, diving deep into the critical issues of Internet governance as stairs. So explain. So clearly, we've fought we kick off with our back again, let's cover some essential logistics to ensure everyone has a smooth, comfortable and experience. First off, for those people that are here on site. The bathrooms are, right I mean, right and right, right. Food is in the back. So you go out and there's a door in the back and the food is there. There's coffee and there will be food there all day. And today tomorrow. And another will be fixed by is more fresh breakfast in the morning and there will be lunch served. And this afternoon, we have a reception at the Hyatt Place hotel in from six to eight so everybody is invited. So don't don't miss that. The Wi Fi you have the Wi Fi connection in front of you. And let me see if I don't forget anything else. Nope. So also, for everyone, whether you're joining us also an impression in remotely, we encourage you to visit the website, the website is called is at Wet www nasig dot school. All the details are there, I encourage you to go there and see the faculty and the staff. And there you will see a face and a bio. During the sessions during these three days, we're going to introduce anyone specifically guess what they do and their curriculum, we're going to provide a name and title. So we encourage you, if you want to put the persons that are here in context, including me, you can go there and what you know with my my bio, and we do this so we can we can expend more time talking about the things that we want to talk and instead of taking time for presenting people, there's also if there are any engineers here, from there, collecting any arrows, which some of you might be here. Please make sure you sign the paper outside when you come in. And when you go out. That is the paper word that we are obligated to send to the College of Engineering professional College of Engineering Porto Rico, to care to get your educational hours, they will people that are connected remotely, we will do that at the end of the three days, we'll take the information of when you were connected, and we will send that information offline to them. So I just also want to give a welcome to our remote audience. That, you know being connected remotely is a testament of what the Internet is all about. And all the things that Mr. Saad mentioned at the beginning that allow us to do things, things like this. Now, let's take a moment to welcome our sponsors. And the first one is the ADP university with Gladion MCs, they're depressing EDB which they are offering these facilities. So it will give you we talked about about after being. And so thank you so much Lottie and Pablo, also for allowing us to be here today. And so it depends if you come to Puerto Rico come to ADB universities or Puerto Rican commerce, either facilities, okay, or get into the website and see what kind of courses and bachelors and Master's they offer. Here. Also, I want to say thanks, I can I can stand for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and number. And they are the organization that manage the domain names. Also, I wanted to mention adding which is the American Raceway for Internet this organization are in is the one that manage the IP addresses and other things for the web. So they're this both the DNS domain name system and the IP work together. And they're very important organizations that allow all of us to connect through the Internet. Also, we have a presence here from ISOC Foundation, Brian Holic which is one of the the ISOC Foundation's one of the philanthropic right hands of the Internet Society of Puerto Rico they also sponsor schools of Internet going on all around the world. So thank you for supporting us the I don't want to miss anyone that we have a local firm is called Farah YALI LLC. They are buried in in intellectual pimping. In it, they are raking in intellectual property property brand. Brand looking here brand. Well, you know, they protect brands, they do all kinds of corporate laws, they are an international well known firm. They're a very well known in the States, especially in this environment with the Internet is and we have American universities supporting us to, they're helping, they're helping with the production of this. So you can see us remotely and they're not here yet. But there's the DNS research Federation that is coming from the United Kingdom There will be with us two day and tomorrow and they do research on the DNS is can DNS kind of chaotic and they are trying to look up policy and things like that. So they you will hear about them later on. Also the ratio of school of Internet governance basic, this is the school that is free is online, and it will get deeper into the Internet governance issues why you know if you are interested in interested in learning more about Internet governance on your pace, please visit them and and get into their platform and it's it's in Spanish and English. So we have Alfredo Calderon here who is the mayor. Like forever in Glenwood, she couldn't be here today are the ones who manage that school. And also to the College of engineers, the computer engineers in the in the College of Engineering professional organization, which is the the institute within the College of engineers that deals with the technology that we all use every day. So this school is divided in three days. And the theme of this call is confronting truth, trust and hope. So today is going to be all about truth. Tomorrow is going to be all about trust. And Friday is going to be all about hope. So we have put together the sessions to discuss these things in specific in this form, so you can have a feeling for what all these things are about. And then you can not confirm them. But you know, you can put them in perspective within the Internet. So I really from the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here today. And I have the pleasure to introduce them now. Gladys Nieves. She is the president of the EDP University for us. Sure message. Thank you.

So, good morning, everyone. I have to say that this is a group that I shouldn't have to say what EDP stands for. But for the younger ones, I just wanted to say that this is the house of the first computer nerds in Puerto Rico, electronic data processing, then college now University of Puerto Rico. And just wanted to point out that it's a pleasure and a privilege for me to stand here. And on behalf of my father, who was the founder and who was one of the first computer nerds in Puerto Rico, who make himself proud of training, then computers, those that made the computations, he decided that he needed to train more and more students in computer programming so that they would be able to optimize the services in Puerto Rico. So this is our story 55 years ago, and this is our future. That's what I was telling the boys and girls that were here yesterday and the day before and the day before that, that they are the future that somebody thought for them so that they would have Internet since they were born. But that that somebody else needs to do all the configuration so that they can we can move forward into the future. So it's a pleasure for EDP university to have you here. For the STEM program for the technology programs. I'm proud to say that I've been President for 27 years. And the first time I heard about distance education, I say, I said that could be a nice to have somewhere else. But it needs to be here in EDP University, it's a must. So, right now we do have seven to eight on fully online programs. They are available, obviously in Spanish. So I just wanted to say, again, we are in Puerto Rico, we are a Spanish serving institutions. And we serve students from all over the United States and Puerto Rico, but we do teach in Spanish. So we are bilingual, and especially especially in the in technology departments, and I mean everybody should be bilingual, but it's better and you have better opportunities if you're bilingual. So if you do have some Hispanic roots, put yourself through through some education in Spanish, so that you can practice and make yourself bilingual as well. So, I know that that the language of the computers are like different languages and you speak probably different languages in from programming languages. But in order for us to be sustainable, we need to move with the Internet. I mean, among the different barriers that we do have, we do not have them now with the technology and especially after the pandemic we we demonstrated that this learning is something that we can still do in the distance. So everybody that is in somewhere else and those of you who are here I just welcome you to go to ADP University to Puerto Rico and to the world of the Internet See you later
