of our community, apart from the supply chain partners here most importantly I want to thank my staff, I shared with my wife, President Carter support for the entire group COVID-19 Academy, and have been around for nearly 365 Day providing emergency food assistance. Remember, our current residents, all across the globe we just do very proud of the fact that they were able to distribute almost 13 million pounds of food. Just under 40 million pounds. According to families all across around. Just over 500 trials. And so we've been out in the rain, more and better and oh by the way, so making sure that families do not have to have a question as to whether they want to be able to provide food for thought for the moment. And I know we have a number of things to talk about right here but you're hearing in the numbers I just mentioned, they're just like what we see now is that the overwhelming amount of people that come to our community find most of them are leaving families own, at least for my husband are getting like 567 a night because it would be more helpful file for going home because people are having to do it, just to make ends meet. And so much pain and find a way to bring his own family, point where we're working tirelessly to find ways to move, so that people don't have to continue to fret over the resources to provide for the big city, but I can find more Washington DC, we have a voice there or someone who knows like dogs, or the pain that families, or a worker can have during this time. He comes from a community where there's a pandemic, a public health crisis, you can hardly expect the person from the community that you're battling here today. No childcare or housing or transportation around focare I want to introduce those of you that I have people from our respective field affected that I work
for. First of all, let me say thank you all for coming back and scanning the team at the canary Academy in Las Vegas. This is the place that maybe I have the opportunity to leave economy and Academy. According to Congress. But the work that you have been doing, and I've heard directly from my constituents, and people throughout the entire valley. They are so grateful. And I just want to commend you and I want to thank the vice president for being here to be able to see this work, and all the impact the positive impact that you are making in this community. You know, we've been working, because the President Biden and vice president Harris proposed this American rescue plan. And this recipe plan finally puts people, and workers. First, by providing real results and real benefits that we need in our community, including a 14 $100 direct cash payment, including the resources to help lift a half of children out of poverty through the Child Tax Credit, a provision that I worked on to extend the unemployment benefits to September, at the $300 a week level, because I know so many of my constituents here are struggling to make ends meet, and as a health insurance benefit to be a bridge, until you return back to work, and the benefits that your union leadership push to include with the leadership of President Biden and vice president Harris, to have 100% over benefits to protect your healthcare. These are just a few of the key provisions in the bill, including more than $4.1 billion dollars to the state and local governments to make sure we keep these essential services in place, and no one else on the upfront appointment line, and more than a billion dollars to the school districts throughout that 883 million, right here for the Clark County School District, to help children as they return to in person learning something we want for everybody. But you know what, it's guided by the principles of human rights president in our new president, Mr Joe Biden and I remember you saying something so profound, which is, we need to fight for the things we really care. And there's no one that knows better how to fight an award for things than labor, and all of you. And so I'm proud because you all have given me that opportunity to serve as your representative that I will never forget where I come from, what I'm fighting for or who I'm fighting for, and we are going across this fire. With the help of the American rescue plan, and we are going to build back better, and it's whipped. Right. President Harris, why I'm so proud to say, welcome back to Las Vegas.
Thank you and to all the volunteers. Thank you all and culinary workers and see and do and listen. I was raised,
to understand
that if you live
the value of time and
you understand the distinction between charity and charity. I'll give you a little background on what we've been doing.
It is the business of each of us living,
especially the time. It is our responsibility. When people are suffering. People are
help people.
When you do not understand the dignity of each person in your
community.
And that's what this is about. That's what you're doing here. That's what we were doing with the American rescue plan about understanding that right now in our country people are suffering. People have been unemployed for
over a year through no fault of their own. Our babies are hungry
in Nevada alone one seven households were describing hunger and in Nevada alone, one in five households is describing an inability or difficulty to pay rent in the market for small businesses.
So President Biden, you remember a while back, he said, Help us on the way. And then he found out American rescue plans, I would say, Help us here.
And as Congressman said,
there are a number of things that it does. And so I'm here and also make sure we get the word out, so folks know what they are entitled to receive and also by
extension, they
remember, this is supposed
to be the job of your government,
which is when you're suffering. When you need a helping hand. When you need a little assistance to get over a moment of crisis unit create. That's when
leaders are supposed to kick him to say, I'm here I see you and I will help you.
So it's the 14 $100 direct payment
is the extension on unemployment benefits that child tax credit visa people understand that he's willing to assist others right explain to basically means that you have
children, and you don't miss
don't normally pay taxes at a high level so you get the tax credit, which you pay at a lower level so
you may not get the money back because to jam pay the tax on it, you still get that assistance because everyone is equal, analysis, it's about saying about equity. Any other equity is about, you know, I come from parents who fought for civil rights, right, and the fight is for equality. But the point about equity is to understand also.
Everybody starts out on the same page. Getting started on the first day some people said on Thursday.
The point of equality, the spirit
of mining is we should all kind of end up in the same place
has an equal opportunity to compete, an equal opportunity to prosper. So
equity says let's take into account not everybody starts out on. That's was part of the the spirit behind the Americans.
It's saying that children should not live in poverty in America. And so little bit, half of Americans out of poverty here that that, that'll be an estimated 40,000 Children, lifted out of poverty. So these are the things we are doing, but the importance of also looking at things like Cobra is understanding workers.
I've been talking with workers in the culinary union.
It's cases worked 30 years where they were 20 years where they were 15 years old and they were there now.
And so health benefits, right, culinary workers in particular the national means of fighting for workers rights right now. So we're going to extend Cobra benefit. So you don't have to
come out of your pocket to pay with your employer's
health care when you're out of the past now. These isn't some of the things that
we're doing here, and I'm going to end with a story
that I heard from that guy that really
makes such a point about the human
spirit. In times of crisis, and it makes such an important point about the dignity that each one of us has,
and that is to the speculator,
so he told me about him
here. Even happiness to bear, so that people can pry. And because COVID There's no direct interaction and folks pop up in their trunk,
and how the volunteers here, when they go to take your bag to put
it in the trunk of the car, they look down, and they're handwritten notes
from the family who's the occupant of the car. Thank you.
Weather extension of humanity, extended to a day. He told me about sometimes, the volunteers will pop open the trunk or the trunk open, And they look down. There's a $5 bill as it's the violence
from people who are barely making it all, Or
who have nothing extra to give skipping the volunteers and respecting the dignity of
the most priceless. It presents a real measure
of each of us. And what
we are prepared to do. Now I will say I was at UN LP earlier. And I met with all the health care workers there. I'm here with all these volunteers, you run the heroes of this is crisis
has been a measure of character,
and who the heroes that history will tell kept it all going. You gave
people
dignity.
So on behalf of President and listener and our country under the table. for all YouTube messenger.
Thank you. Remembering from the week before you started poking poking bouncing around the room provides family support for people from cultural and legal diversity and don't want to admit
it to today that we have to come to terms of structure to the enemy like. And so, if you look back over there. We also have bad if you want to know the right brain, in the brain is also kind of bright in chapter eight. Right. You want to make sure that the friendly people are talking. So, wait approximately 30 to 40, minutes or properly.
This week in the caravan. Additional resources for the American rescue plan again they've been going to community centers, senior centers at the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, in partnership with our local officials, county commissioners, city council has really provided
a platform for commissioners to practice of operating in more than just one project, we couldn't do this without the support of developers working on a daily basis, we go. We're dropping.
