Zuzu asked city college students about their favorite holiday traditions. Zuzu tell us more.
Hey, everyone. Zuza Gruskin here with City Times media, this time of year is full of traditions, but some are a little more unique than others. We asked the community to share their fun or unusual holiday traditions. Here's what they told us.
My favorite Christmas tradition is matching PJs.
One of my favorite traditions
is making possole with my family.
Hello. My name is FiO, and my favorite holiday tradition is in my family. My dad is the cook, so every Christmas he cooks like a really good, expensive steak. And it's like my favorite day of the year, like I literally look forward to it every day. So I'm super excited for that.
My favorite holiday tradition is whenever ABC has the 25 days of Christmas, me and my siblings, we'd all just gather around. We'd all just watch the classics like Polar Express and home alone. It just kind of gives brings us back to the old days being kids and just waiting for Christmas. It's always a lot of fun.
My favorite tradition is being able to open when present at midnight and then the rest of the morning. Thanks
for tuning in once again. This is Zuzu gruscom with City Times media. Happy holidays.
Thanks, Zuzu. My favorite holiday tradition is spending time with my family. I'm looking forward to that, and if you need a new shirt or sweater for that family gathering, Daniela will show us where and how to spend smart Danny, can you help us?
Yes. Nathan, everyone deserves to feel stylish this holiday season without breaking the bank. I visited our on campus Colleen closet to see how students can find the perfect look for any occasion. Check it out. The holidays are here, and everyone deserves to feel confident and celebrate in style. For city college students, it's easy to find the perfect outfit for any holiday event. Our on campus clothing closet is called nights, threads and things. You can find a variety of free, donated clothes and accessories for students. Prairie festive sweater with a cute scarf for a cozy day in or a chic dress with high heels for a work holiday party. You can put together an outfit that's appropriate for every occasion for a limited time, nights, threats and things has a six item per day limit. So plan your visit and find something that makes you feel your best. Full disclosure, I walked away with two cute sweaters. So happy holidays to me, and this season is one of the busiest times of the year for your wallet. A recent you give survey says that 82% of the country is buying Christmas gifts, and on average. Average shoppers are spending over $360 during this season. The most common present is expected to be gift cards, allowing people to pick out exactly what they want. And with the season of giving comes holiday shopping, and lots of it while you rush to get your holiday deals, here are some tips to make sure that you aren't over spending. Make a list of what you need before shopping, and check for deals before you go and try not to buy everything at once. You can also set a holiday budget so that you can track your spending. Apps like rocket money and good budget are here to help your wallet will thank you, and that's all for me. Back to you. Nathan, thanks.
Danny, I have a ton of shopping to do, and this will definitely help. And if you want a safe and fun activity for the whole family, sarai has a plan to sugar all of you up. Sarai, what's cooking?
It's the busiest time of the year, and baking is at the forefront of many people's minds. City Times is here to supply you with some delicious holiday treat recipes, and no baking is needed. Make it three ingredient holiday wreath by using pretzels, white chocolate and edible decor. Start by dipping half of your pretzel into the melted white chocolate, then put it on a plate to create a circle. Layer another circle of pretzels on top. Then add a design of your choice using holiday candy. Once it dries, you'll have a delicious holiday wreath to share with your family and friends. Or create a Christmas snow globe by using Oreos Reese's cups and some white chocolate, dip your Oreo into the melted white chocolate, then decorate with your holiday candy. Add a drop of white chocolate onto your Reese's cup and place your Oreo on top, and there you have. It a quick and easy holiday snow globe. Using these simple tips gives you a pair of tasty treats for the holiday season for cttv. I'm sir. I go Miss thanks
Rai. My mouth is watering from those sweets. If there are holiday shoppers still looking for a gift, David's got the scoop on what to buy and where to buy it. We'll tell you about that after the break. Dear Santa,
I hope you are having a good day in the North Pole. Is it cold all the time? There is that why your cheeks are so rosy? I bet all of your brains are very excited. Is your bed long? My dad is scratchy. My mom says I'm gonna go to help her, but you didn't come last year. Was my chimney broken? Or did you forget? I do that sometimes. I just really hope this year, when I wake up, I'm gonna see that you came to my house too. But
donate to Toys for Tots and help the Marines deliver hope to a child in need. Welcome back
to this holiday edition of news scene. On the top of so many stories are toys. David's here to share what all the little ones want. Tell us more. David,
thanks. Nathan, the holidays are here, and shopping is on the forefront of everyone's mind. Our own. Andrea took one for the team and researched the most sought after toys that are on the top of everyone's list. Take it away, Andrea, if
you're shopping for kids or the young at heart. Here's a list of the top toys everyone is searching for this season. The soft and cuddly squishmallows are practically flying off the shelves. These plush companions are trending on Tiktok and make a perfect fluffy friend. And the miniverse is currently also trending. The little balls with Mystery Mini gifts are favorites for collectors and bring the beach fun indoors this winter with kinetic sand. Kids have sensory fun without the hassle of real sand all over the house, but don't way to shop these toys might sell out for cttv. I'm Andrea Valdez,
thanks, Andrea. I need to get out and find some of that kinetic sand that looks like fun. And if you're stuck trying to find that perfect gift, look no further than the City College bookstore. City's bookstore is full of merchandise like logo shirts, hats and accessories perfect for anyone in your family. They have all the gift ideas covered, like a new backpack or earbuds that will fit perfectly in any stocking. Store hours vary, but shopping is available online@bookstore.sdccd.edu and as the holidays are fast approaching, Christmas lights are starting to pop up all over town. Residents in El Cajon are coming together to decorate their houses for the holiday season, and families from every neighborhood are visiting the streets of Solomon Avenue and pepper drive for the colorful displays and welcoming atmosphere. The views will last through the month of December. That's a wrap for me here on this holiday season, giving you the gift ideas and family fun. Back to you. Nathan,
Thanks, David. I'll definitely check out that neighborhood. And as we leave fall and head into winter. San Diego was seeing a dramatic drop in temperatures. We're looking at numbers in the 60s and 70s this week, barely reaching the 80s, with less than an inch of rain the last two months. Forecasters are expecting very little rain this winter, and we'll be thinking about the weather a lot as we send packages to loved ones in the coming days. Trey Shawn's got the dates you need to know to have your packages arrive on time.
The holiday season is about giving and spending time with family, but for families separated by distance, mailing gifts and having them arrive on time is crucial. City Times is here to go over the packing basics so your gifts are ready for the holidays. First, make sure your package isn't too heavy. USPS has a limit of 70 pounds, and be cautious of sending hazardous materials such as lithium batteries, and know your shipping budget going in. Most postal services have faster shipping turnarounds if you're willing to pay extra Postal Annex owner Debbie Kaler says knowing the deadlines for shipping services is key
post office, which is USPS. Ground advantage is by the 18th that you would need to get because it's usually about two to eight days for delivery. Priority Mail is by the 19th, and express mail by the 21st now this is all depending on the weather. So if there's any type of weather delay, it could delay your package. So if you want to really make sure you get your packages there by the holidays, I would suggest coming in a little bit sooner in order to get those packages out.
With these simple tips, your family can have a happy holiday no matter where they are. For cttv, I'm Tres Shan Osgood,
thanks. Trey Sean, I'll be sure to keep that in mind. If you're feeling overwhelmed during finals, we have a place for you to de stress for the rest of the semester. City College's LRC will have activities to help you relax. There's a selection of books that have been recommended for anyone wanting to unwind. The lounge area also has been decorated to fit the holiday theme. The library is open to all students and is located in the R building. And New Year's resolutions is right around the corner, and for many it's time to start making them, to make your own come up with some goals for yourself to reach in the new year, you can mark them down on a calendar to keep track of these goals. Perhaps it's time to get back into an old hobby such as reading. Maybe you want to learn how to better your health, both physically and mentally, or maybe both at the same time. And finally, this is our last new scene of the fall semester, and with that, we wanted to share a little glimpse of what it's like on the other side of the camera. Andrea takes you behind the scenes.
