Care of Magical Shippers Podcast
Hey there listener Fancy seeing you here. Look, sometimes due to the things we discuss on the pod, it might contain potentially triggering content. But the good news is you can always review the episode description for a full list of the warnings applicable to this episode. Oh, and just so you know, this episode is rated are really filthy. It includes adult themes and explicit content. So if you're an adult, buckle up, Gird your loins and prepare to flood the basement because we are going down with these chips.
Space let's start a ship. I don't care if I get my bearings, well, then you can hit the bricks. This is my own seat down with this ship
got it pretty seamless. A much more seamless introduction than most of our episodes.
Do you know Giuliana and I have started? We've started doing it that way we used to do it where we would do we'd be both recording we 123 clap and then I try to sync it up based on that because that's how every other podcast I've ever been on, has done it. But then when I started doing episodes with you and Meg's I noticed that you guys would just count down 321 Everybody hits record and I'm actually fighting that works better.
Yeah, we tried the clapping. And then Meg's had a minor incident trying to line everything up one day, we were just like, yeah, the clapping doesn't work for us. So we were like, You know what, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, we'll just, we'll just count in. So every time we do this, I do think of Meg's lovingly knowing that it's saving her the headache of you know, many, many wasted hours of editing time, just trying to get everything just down to the the perfect nth degree. So I'm very happy about that. But I'm glad that it's catching on. I mean, I feel like you know, I always thought that we'd be starting a trend. I didn't want to be that one. But I'm glad that we're we're catching on in one way or another. Well,
who's to say that that's the only trend that you're starting? Well, who
knows? I mean, we are both fab, this episode is going to be incredible. Who knows what's going to come out of it? I'm very excited.
Oh, I can only imagine because to be honest, all the note preparation that I did for this episode was I just read back through the text exchange that you and I had over discord when we were coming up with nonsense together, because I figured all the rest of it. We'll just we'll just talk about it. And it'll be great.
This is my my strategy for most, if not all of these episodes, we did try a couple where it was more scripted. But it felt a little bit. I don't want to say it wasn't good. It did keep us on topic, which I know a couple of listeners have said, you know, shows great and everything but stay on topic. But the thing is, a lot of people love my weird digressions as well. So you know, if you're one of those listeners that wants 100% of the topic 100% of the time, you know, I'm getting to the stage where this probably isn't going to be that, but I guarantee you that it'll be good regardless. So,
yeah, listen to a different show, although all the ones that I listened to the most. They seem to people have said this about us as well as that when it's just not only you getting to experience the topic or the format, but it's the friendship between the hosts that you love so much. And that's part of the that's part of what makes this show work is that you and Meg's are just so great together. So I don't care if you digress or not.
Well, thank you. I will I think we're great together as well. I cannot wait to get into some verbal table tennis about this pairing. I'd better introduce the episode before we go off on to, you know, wild tangents and speculation. So
yeah, that'd be good, wouldn't
it Sasho straight into it. Welcome back to Care of Magical shippers, podcast, a Harry Potter ship culture podcast, you must know by now that I am Nathan. What you may not know is today we have Jeff with us. I am so excited to be with you again. Jeff. Hello.
I am so excited to be with you. Hello, Nathan. Do you know in my head and also out loud because sometimes I talk to myself. I refer to mags as my dearest mags and I refer to you as my darling Nathan.
Well I that is the highest form of flattery. So those
are your names. Those are your those are your full proper names. You can get that on your IDs and everything.
Well, if you listeners if you want to check my birth certificate, it'll be on there. It's I mean,
just show the birth certificate.
Thus, we descend into the deep and murky realm of conspiracy, and it's not even we're not even five minutes into the episode. I
know. This is gonna be a spicy one that took no time. It's gonna be a spicy. Oh, that's gonna be a spicy one for sure.
I'm so excited on so many levels. Jeff, I'll tell you why. Not least because we're doing the pairing. Which by the way, if you haven't guessed from the title of this episode, which I'm sure you will by now. But it's Snape and Trelawny. And like when you suggested this to me, I was so when you initially suggested it to me. I was like power, sniping Trelawney, that's not a combination I've ever considered before. And then instantly the pawns started arriving. And by the discord conversation, I just like, I are so ready for this. I feel it up in my soul. I am ready to have a deep, meaningful conversation with you my friend. Oh, yeah. About them. I
did too. I gotta be honest. Yeah. First. For some reason. The first one to pop into my mind was actually Chrome and Hermione. But then I realized that that was probably because you had just done that one. Yeah, best. Yeah, it was a fabulous episode. I was I was I was texting. What happened was I was texting best when I was listening to it. And I said, I am now going to live chat you all of the things that I love about this episode as it is happening to me. And I ended up with at least I think, maybe even around dozen things that I texted her. And then when the episode actually came out so that everybody would have access to it, I ended up going in the discord under the latest episode channel. Just copy and paste all those bullet points into the discord.
You know, I like I love making every episode but of course, it was so great to have that on. And I always love whenever we have a new guest someone that we maybe haven't had a chance to talk to before, because they always have such like, everybody has a different energy and a different vibe. And something new to bring to the pod. And so when bass came on, I mean, I'll be honest with you, I was a little starstruck. And so it was a whole different vibe. But I loved I loved making that episode. It was so good.
I could tell and I can tell that bass really love doing it. And I think I have to tell you this one. One of the things I texted her that was my favorite I said it's not that you discussed pegging you up the three were the one to bring it up
listen, I was as surprised as anybody but this is what this pod does better than any other that I've heard before. It provides the listener with interesting little surprises half the time I'm surprised I don't know things are coming but revelations happen it's a it's a part of the the atmosphere of the ambiance and I have a feeling that similar things are going to happen today now I know that you've brought us fanfiction and I am very very very excited about that. I don't know if and when you want to do that do you want to like have a chat about the ship first and then go into the fanfiction or did you want to do you know
let's let's have the chat let's let's let's get into this Snape and Trelawny universe, you know, just make sure that people are good in and settled in because that'll get them in the right mindset for for what's going to come at the end. Yeah, well, trust me, trust me the payoff is going to be huge. You're gonna you're gonna want to stick around until the end for this one.
Okay, so listener I need you to like arm yourself with your glitziest shawl and polish your crystal ball and settle in because this discussion is going to be prescient, I think it's going to be what's the word? What's the thing when when she was looking at tea leaves, it's tassa Mansi I just I feel like we are going to really get into some Misty seductive and chanting robes discussion. I, I'm well prepared. But I think, Jeff, if you want to begin by just, you know, started the conversation off with some of your 31st thoughts, and then I will, I'll plunge in and join you in a minute. Well, like
a lot of ships that I actually have gotten into that are among my favorites. Now, I got it from this list that Meg sent to me last year when I was working on that song, the 12 days of shipments. And I'm looking at this list. And I'm noticing as I'm picking out ships that I'm actually into, that seems to flow with the song that I'm actually interested in reading. Most of them are queer ships, which is great. But one of the and it's not even you can read it a lot of different ways. You don't have to read these characters as cisgender or heterosexual you don't have to do that. I think for a lot of people just because of what we know about, you know, Snape and Lily being in the canon series, I think that might be kind of the default setting for some people. But if you if you will broaden your mind, you can look at it as these two bonded over a lot of different things. Yeah. But I plucked it from the list. And the more I considered it, the more I thought, you know, what I can think of a million reasons why this ship makes complete and total sense to me, just because they both teach at Hogwarts, they both been there for roughly the same amount of time, they almost had the same start date. They were both misfits. They both teach subjects that have a very interesting background, you could say, and also very interesting applications as to what you learn from the subjects. Yeah, they just I can I can easily see these two characters gravitating towards each other, perhaps reluctantly, but that they're very, very similar. The more you think about them,
they the thing that I love the because I didn't want to interrupt you while you were talking, but you use the phrase broaden your mind. And I just
just felt like that sets the scene. I feel like so I'm picturing the moment in my head when Trelawny is crystal gazing. And she just starts seeing Snopes face in the crystal ball. And she's like, in the first instance, she's annoyed or whatever. And then the more and more she does it, the more his face keeps cropping up. And she's, and she goes from annoyance to them sort of enjoying these little glimpses into his life. I know for a fact that they're both incredibly lonely characters, or that's how they come across canonically. So for them to bond over their mutual dislike of, you know, things like the way that the system is run at Hogwarts. They both like a little bit more autonomy for different reasons. I could see them having like little clandestine meetups in Trelawny is like attic room where she's pouring tea. And even though Snape hates the fact that it's all floral, and a little bit, you know, in Sensi, he, he is drawn in the fact that they're bonding over a sort of a mutually agreeable proto villainy, or they love I love that about them. It makes me it makes me feel like there would be validity to that thing of there's love out there for everybody, even though it's people who you may have traditionally consigned to, you know, being more invested in their own sense of drama or ego than than other people. And so what I think that because they're both very dramatic characters, and I know we both picked up on this when we were talking about them.
Oh my gosh, yes, we did. We just mentioned before we started recording, I was all the prep, I felt like I needed for this one was just going back through the text exchange that you and I had over discord. And when I went back, I don't know why. We just can't I think it was actually you that started it. We just started pitching these names to each other and I'm keeping them all written down because I am confident I will use these for something, but we're just I don't think they're shit names. I think This to me they feel like fanfiction titles. Yes. Like maybe they can even be prompt even because you gave me the seer and the sneer.
Yeah, I yes yeah I did.
That was clever for a couple
of great ones we both came up with the was shoals and drills. That was that was civil disobedience, which I really enjoyed. Oh
my god. You gave me wood you gave me civil disobedience. I said go to your rue.
I think it just it got worse. It got so much better. It's so much worse it by the end of it. I had thrown out. I thought they'd be pet names. But then I think they ended up becoming stage names almost because I said civil disobedience and Snape misbehaving? Yeah,
you did. You did. And then we came up with this whole headcanon of them both being drag artists, drag performers. And I don't know if so I had this thing of, you know, Snape channeling his inner 80s Diva, and doing the Cyndi Lauper thing. And dressing. yourself, which I thought was genius. That the signature line for that character should be the hat still stays
on and stays on and the gloves come off?
Yes. I just I love that so much. I think they're both they so what's so great about these characters is that they have they're steeped in their own sense of personality. I think that's very steeped
like a like tea leaves almost.
Exactly, yes. Ah,
the jokes write themselves.
No. And the one thing that they didn't foresee was a future together. But fortunately, we get to do that.
Well, we'll say that again. Say that, again. I
said, the one thing that they didn't foresee was a future together,
or they did it. I'm writing this down. Like as this is happening, I gotta remember this or see this a future to get there. Okay, calling it I'm taking that that's becoming something.
First, folks, you just
you just pitched me a line. It's okay. Whatever it turns into, I'll make sure that your names in the credits.
I mean, this pod has a rich history of sort of live streaming fanfiction, we make it up in our heads as we go. And then it becomes something else. We first did it with Arthur Weasley and Lucia Malfoy. And we had a sort of an episode where we, we didn't intend the episode to start this way. But what actually happened was, we sort of wrote a fanfiction between us live, and it became our headcanon for these characters. And I mean, it's easily doable with characters that are as enigmatic as civil and state, they are just, they lend themselves so well, to commanding an audience. And you know, they deserve to be written about. And I didn't necessarily, like I said to you, I didn't initially see them together. But there are so many scenarios in which now that I think about it now that when we talk about them leaning in to their own drama, that I see them working together, because they're just so that they're just such enigmatic people, you know, and I think with anybody else, the trouble is they overshadow them if they'd be too much, they would demand too much for the other person. But because they're such characters of the stage, they I feel like they actually weirdly complement each other. It's not it's not something you could say about many couples that that they in essence bond over the the element that makes them the same, but I think because they're so dramatic, they don't just stand that about each other, right?
Yeah, they what I like about the idea of Snape and toolani as a couple you're having potential is that a lot of the characters that we meet, we get background story and then all throughout the Canon books we keep going back and we keep finding out all this stuff that happened long long ago, in you know the setup leading to the main action of the seven books, but with Snape and toolani As I said before that they started at Hogwarts around the same time. But you see, they had all this time they had roughly a decade or so, between the fall of Lord Voldemort. And when Harry Potter comes to Hogwarts, where they're both still at Hogwarts, they're both still teaching and Snape surely knows that one day Harry Potter is going to come to Hogwarts, and he's going to have all of these flashbacks, and it's going to cause him severe emotional turmoil.
what was he up to? In the meantime? He and Sybil were doing their drag review in hugs need at the open floor night at the pubs? Yes, they
on your deathbed and baddie Davis. Yes. Ah Oh, I will always circle around to the drag name sweetie darling. I will always circle around to the drag. There was just I love that so much you came up with on your deathbed.
I did. Now I can't take credit. I can't take credit for it entirely. Because it's it's a drag name that a friend of mine wants to adopt if they have if they ever eventually do do drag. So they came up with it and I just appropriated it for the purposes of civil but then you came up with Bette Davis for Snape. And it's just so, so painful. It had to
it had to have bat in it and who is somebody? I thought okay, that baddie Betty, someone in the pantheon of you know, queer icons, that people in the queer community still to this day that we are constantly referencing and constantly talking about. Betty Davis? Yeah, clean, yeah, overdramatic, but and so Batty, Davis, it is
also soil. So picture him doing a rendition of Betty Davis Eyes. But instead of Betty Davis Eyes, he just goes he's got Lily's eyes.
Ah, yep. And then he has a couple of fire whiskies after the show, and doesn't feel weird about it at all. Well, I do I keep doing that song. It's not good for my self esteem.
I think Snape never makes decisions that are good for his self esteem. He's not well known for being an emotionally grounded, well rounded human being. Let's face it, he takes out
because he built his entire identity around an other person and whether or not you have a healthy relationship with somebody, that is never the thing to do. You never base your entire personality around another person, because then you're dependent on them. And if they're ever gone, for whatever reason, case in point, you never get over it.
Yeah, yeah. And it isn't just that he did that it's that he remained that obsessed for that length of time. And as we see, you know, when that when that has no place to go or evolve, it just becomes toxic. And and you know, I know that there is a great deal of snake redemption that gets done it canonically and in fanfiction, but one of the things one of the big counterpoints to it that I keep seeing is just how nasty he is to the students like you don't no matter what's going on in your personal life, you don't take your frustrations out on kids, no matter, you know, no, no matter what's going on. So I just, I like to feel that this is an AU that we're talking about where Snape decides to get a handle on some of the darker emotions that he's feeling. And he recognizes maybe he's been disciplined for, you know, being venting and appropriately, he recognizes that something needs to change. And then Sippel introduces him to the art of drug because one day he's in the hugs ad feeling miserable for himself, you know, after the third fire whiskey or, you know, whatever it happens to be and he sees Sybil onstage and he thinks, you know what, this could be an outlet for me. And so he starts exploring that, that side of himself, and I feel I feel like that would be an encouraging step to take. And I think in his head, he, like Snape is feeling that if he can't be with Lilly, he can channel some of Lilly through his performance. That to me feels like a very Snape thing to do
that is the closest to a healthy way of processing his residual Lily emotions that we would probably get. So I say I agree. Now, where you could really go really far to it that is because not only because of the art of drag, but also because of what one learns in wizard school, especially if you're particularly good at magic, which Stape is yeah, you can not only do drag makeup, but you can actually alter your physical appearance. Wow. So now, now that I know we have crossed this threshold, we must ask these questions. It is essential. Do wizards and witches need padding? Or can they broaden their minds and their bottoms? Arabic isms? I love and just IV think about it. Because you know how many times I have seen Queen sitting in living rooms, cutting out couch cushions in the shape of Africa and stuffing them inside four or five pair of pantyhose to create the illusion of hips when Snape could just pull out his one. Tap his hips and they could just go I'm ready for by close up Mr. DeMille. I so many
levels, because I feel like the wizarding world is crying out for more trans representation on Yes. And so on some level, all wizards have the potential to be trans because we see it sometimes in body swap fic. But I hadn't thought about it in a drug context. Until you just said it. And now it makes perfect sense to me. You know, we've joked before about how you know, because you know, boys living together in a dormitory, there's got to be any number of engagement charms that go wrong in that situation. Right. But I think body modification, you know, why didn't I think that that could extend to the magical practicalities of this as well. I love this. So this element of it as well. Because in on one level, it's a way of expressing oneself. But then also, it's a way of like you say, flaunting prodigious magical talent. And that's another reason why Snape would want to lean into it. He's like, look how well I can transform myself. Look how immersed I am in this new expression of myself. And plus, it gives wizards the ability to add an extra level of performative flair to whatever they want to bring to this because you could literally turn up as different, you know, different silhouettes and different body shapes. Every single time you went onstage, the possibilities are so broad. I am so I'm so sold on this idea.
Eggs, I'll be talking about serving looks. You could I mean, people are out there inventing spells all the time you could that could become like the wizarding equivalent of boobs for queens.com which is a website where drag queens can purchase breastplates if you're not familiar, we're not plugging it. We're just acknowledging that it exists.
But imagine it's one of many websites. Yes.
You may badgered being a wizard whose job is to come up with self transfiguration spells, specifically targeted towards wizarding drag performers.
that's a thing you could do and then of course, you
know we have gender fluid queer icon blaze the beanie be being fabulous and obviously you know when when they arrived at Hogwarts that pioneering the you know, the drama societies, the the gender queer groups, and it's a wonderful time, but if that can have been influenced by early magic, that Snape and Trelawney themselves pioneer, so I'm thinking of like, though that moment In Book six when Harry discovers the potions textbook of the Half Blood Prince, what if he discovers, like all sorts of spells in there that have nothing to do with potion earring? Everything to do with drug and drug? And it's just like just pointing how he's just trying these spells out in the dormitory pointing his wand to himself going extravaganza.
Ah he tries out one of the handwritten incantations he's not supposed to next thing you know, he sends an owl to her mind is dormitory. It says, I need you to come up here. Don't she comes up. There's Harry Potter. And suddenly he's Harry knockers because he can't get them to go back down again. In her mind, he just looks at him and says, Well, I don't think any of my bras will fit you Harry, but we'll do our best
Oh, she looks at him and goes not again. Did Tavis
walks in right at that moment looks at them over here is that and says what you mean, again? Nevermind, I share a dog with you. This is not this shouldn't be news to me. And yet, here we are. Just
I can envisage hurry in that moment. Being really proud of his magic, though. Like, in a way he's like, embarrassed that he suddenly has boobs, but in another way he's admiring them and being like, actually, this is a really complicated bit of magic to pull off. Like I, you know, I can also see him going into the great hall next day to the taunts and jeers of the slither ins or whoever, because he hasn't been able to get rid of it. And of course, you know, part of him is embarrassed and whatever. But also, it's a small part of him is very proud of his of his ability to to have channeled the Half Blood friends. And of course, Snape that is the staff table knowing exactly what spell he's used on himself. And he knows full well that it's come from his textbook, but there's nothing he can do about it without also revealing his identity. This has so many layers,
we should probably try to steer it back to David terlato. I guess so.
But Snape Strunk persona just has many implications. And
again, and we will continue to I going to write about it now that we've established that Jelani and Steve have done this drag review together that must be written and and so I shall,
so let me give the listeners a little bit of context about how I see Sybil getting into drukke because so we know that Sybil is the granddaughter of Cassandra Trelawney really venerated Sia, and very respected for her, you know, powers of prognostic prognostication and all the rest of it. What I what I see for Sybil is that she knows, she doesn't seem to be consciously aware whenever she gives her actual predictions, because, you know, she gets the hoarse voice, and, you know, her eyes roll back into her head or whatever. But I get the sense that she is aware that after multiple accounts of having this happen, and after having multiple people report it back to her, that she's got sort of that she sees it as having more than one personality rattling around in her brain. And so as a way to try and access that and tap into it in a way that feels organic to her. She tries to start manifesting that these personalities and these visions in a way that she thinks, Well, if I can, you know, dress in a way that is that assumes a different character. Maybe I can tap latently in to my psychic abilities. That's how I see her getting into drug in the first place. I mean, I don't know what your thoughts are,
that works for me. And with her I mean, obviously with Snape, we've talked about you know, the possible body modification spells that he could use and exploring his own femininity and using that to kind of work out his own issue. So I think that he would be a proper, you know, drag queen, that would be snipes take on it, but with toolani I would see her going more the folk Queen route. Yes, I can never tell, especially locally. If there's enough celebration of that kind of thing or not. We're at the point where we certainly acknowledge that It exists to but when I go like I go to my local drag review, and I, there are no folk queens in that show. And I always hope that one of these days I'm going to show up and there will be I mean, there are loads of There are loads of trans queens and there are there are loads of cisgender. You know, drag queens and there are even drag kings. And sometimes I don't even know what they consider themselves. I just know that they're very, very popular like some of the ones from shows like Dracula when they come to town, you know, the weirder, the better. Yeah, but I just I love this idea of civil as the faux queen, because that's what's going to bring her that's going to let her show a side of her personality that other people can get into a little more easily than her usual stick. Because she she's very, very passionate about what she teaches. And regardless of how you feel about divination, I can't say I'm the biggest fan of her constantly telling her students that they're probably going to die. Probably not a responsible thing for a teacher to do. But I do appreciate a t shirt that has an obvious passion for their subject, and who deep down has the intention that they want to pass that along to their students and educate them that's why broaden your mind is what she's always telling people. It's not just because she wants them to pick up what she's laying down. It's because she cares about being a good teacher, right? But her personality doesn't always gel with other people like GEANT and McGonigal obviously, don't get on all that well, but I have a feeling that if McGonagall happened to be down in the village and and she saw Trelawny doing her thing as a faux queen, like maybe even that would be a bridge for their friendship to
at Yeah, exactly. Oh, I would love that thick. I'd love a mechanical Trelawny reluctant friendship thick that sparked by seeing her at the hugs head or up the three broomsticks I also think by the way, what if she called herself faux glass
I just I need that happen. Because yeah, right. So I also think in a way it would be really empowering for Sybil to do that because of faux glasses what you see your enemies through, right? And if you if we see that she is embracing this about herself, maybe as a way to channel her dark side. It could be a really actually holistic thing for her to do. Maybe she's channeling her own trauma into something beautiful. And as a result of that she is able to be this phenomenal performer like I didn't know that I need this you know emotionally robust resolution for Sybil but I guess now that I'm saying out loud I really do and just for me if Minerva was the one to sort of coax that out of her how beautiful would that blue
I love it it'd be a very kind of help Minerva get her groove back sort of thing. Like she's she's always been this very uptight kind of you know very always sharp authoritative figure plays by the book commands respect but gets easily stressed out and so finally she sees fo glass yeah the juice Jelani and Kalani is just says you know what Minerva? The reason we don't get along is because you've got a stick up your butt and I'm gonna help you yank it out girl
we're gonna have all Evander make that stick into a fabulous bond.
Okay, but I hope to see a version of like Priscilla Queen of the Desert where maneuver becomes I forget the name of the like the older queen that travels with them. But
gosh, I don't know it's been years since I've seen that one.
But I am like I so see her fitting into that role like being reluctantly dragged along. Maybe she goes on tour reluctantly
drag you know what that's the name that's the name reluctantly dragged along. That's it. That's it. We got it. We've got a title. We've got a setup. The pitch has been sold so
sue it Snape Minerva? I'm truly in like a campervan going round Girl.
Girl group. They'll be like the frock destroyer.
Yes. They're, they do a tour of all the wizarding villages in the UK, and so it's like obviously there's contracts Hello. I'm not sure if like bodily Babbington was a wizarding village or not? No, it can't be because Slughorn was descended a house No
it was it was a Muggle is. Yeah, I mean, they could go to upper flag Lee Ottery St catch pole. They could you know what they could the final stop of the tour for this for this girl group of Snape Trump. Gotta go. It's gotta be in in Birmingham. Wow. Wow. Birmingham. Yes. Birmingham, Birmingham.
Well, we say Birmingham, but it'd be you know, see,
I know it's it's meant to be Birmingham. I just I never know since I've an American accent. Is it wrong when I say it? Or am I still saying it right?
Well, I don't know if there's a right way and a wrong way to say it. I just think if you're talking about the UK, it tends to be Birmingham. But if you were talking about Birmingham, Alabama, I'd feel weird saying Birmingham. Because that's how you know, locally, people refer to it as Birmingham. So I feel wrong saying it that way. So maybe it's just like, we'll go by locally what preferred but to be honest,
Birmingham was burning and there's definitely the final stuff on this on this tour.
I love that for them. And I want now to see this movie. I want to see this version of these three getting together Someone please write that fanfic that vows to be a thing
getting dragged along the story of the Birmingham or busted to oh
my goodness, I thought Oh, perfect.
Do you see? Do you see how easily it comes? Yeah, that's what she said. Do you?
Still I'm very immature, you'll notice. Like my level of emotional maturity is you know it's in the palm. So
you know what if you want more scholarly discussions that are about as dry as a biscuit with no cup of tea next to it, just go listen to a different podcast because we are all about nonsense. And extra sprinkles on our cupcakes.
Yes, yes, exactly. The little sprinkles the better. And every different variety and shade and combination that you can think of but I
Oh, there is shade of trust me with that combination of Queens. There is going to be some shady shade on that tour bus. Let me tell you
so do we think Do we think that while they're going on tour and everything that there's a romantic elements still between Snape and Sybil, and like, like Muggle articles rolling her eyes at things happening in the back of the van? Like,
I really do. I do. Because it's it's I don't know if they still even do it this way. Because I've lost track of what it's almost it sometimes seems like Hollywood movies these days, they either lean super hard into the typical tropes, or they are trying to prove that they're not doing them. Right. I feel like but I mean, this is the a lot of the you know, if this was a thing like say they were doing in the 80s when this was between the downfall of Voldemort and when Harry Potter comes to Hogwarts, or even in in AU, where this is what they do during their summers. They go on drag tours to Birmingham. Yeah, together. Yeah. And I could see it being this typical trope of Snape and toolani have a romantic relationship. I don't really see them having that much of a physical component to it. Like maybe there is intimacy in the relationship, but it's more of a romantic, asexual kind of intimacy where they're not having intercourse, but they're obviously comfortable being together in a way that they're not with other people. And right, Minerva is the best friend of the group who's just kind of rooting for them, but obviously, at the same time content to do their own thing.
Yes. Oh, I love that for them. I also feel like there's not enough asexual representation in Harry Potter. So in one fell swoop, we've somehow managed to incorporate possible trans representation and possible, you know, like, I don't want to say alternative sexualities because that risks, you know, bro Seeing them off to one side actually want to bring other representation more to the fore. I just think it it's really also nice for us to discuss romantic relationships that maybe don't have such a heavy sexual component because that you know, we do that on enough episodes right? There's there's whole like if you want smart like go and check out our Dre code and Snape episode because it's basically just like makes goes ham on that that into go go back and listen to that if you if you want to laugh, but I think I'm really proud that it's one thing that we can do and kind of reclaim as funds is that we're aware that as people we represent a really broad church of opinions and viewpoints. And the more that that can be properly expressed in things like fanfiction, and perhaps especially in something as seemingly silly as a relationship between Snape and Trelawny, the more impactful it actually becomes, because we, you know, it's a serious point, expressed through what has the potential to be comedy. And sometimes, for my money, the most poignant things are often said in a really light and flippant way.
I agree. And I don't know what it's been lately, but especially ever since I got back from LeakyCon. And we did this whole wonderful, fabulous, in addition to all the other wonderful things I got to do while I was there, we did this fabulous panel about Shippings and pairings that should I think is what it was called. It was myself, Sequoia and Kim from fanatical fics.
Oh, wow, what a panel what? Oh,
oh, oh, and magma Giacomo from the warping will No, no. I felt oh my gosh, I was in paradise. This was exactly the venue for my particular kind of nonsense. Oh, and the audience was having it. I was. So it was just it was perfection. It was like it was one of those moments that you know, you're going to never forget
I am. So I'd be so starstruck. And in a way, like, I really want to be on that stage. But at the same time, I'm like, What would I say, I have a feeling that like my mouth would dry up. And I would completely lose all ability to be cogent. So I'm so glad it was you in that position. And not to me, in a way because just being up on that stage with those people. I just be, you know, I beat I'd be fangirling too hard. I love all of you guys so much. But like the thought of you all together, like what
I wanted to I mean, and so many times and it's just in, I was thanking my stars the whole weekend, that there was so many, and that pretty much every person I met, every person I got to spend time with was somebody that made me want to go, Oh my God, that's the host of my favorite podcaster Oh my God, that's Chris rank. And he was Rosie Weasley. And now we're having lunch together. I've got stories about that.
Oh, my goodness. And then
Oh, honey, honey, let me tell you, my my my darling Nathan, let me tell you, I've got stories about LeakyCon. But to try to make a feeble possibly attempt to bring it back to the whole reason I brought it up in the first place. We could talk about LeakyCon all we want to but the whole reason I brought up this shipping panel that we were on, is because I walked out of this panel thinking to myself, I understand why I want more gender fluidity representation in fandom content, because I'll freely admit that that is a self serving wish because since that is how I see myself it is how I would love to see my fellows represented I that I understand what I walked out of that panel with I don't know where this came from, but it just I really have this now very, very strong desire to see demisexual and asexual and even a romantic representations in content creation. And there are a lot of people who are doing exactly that. And to be quite honest with you. Something else that came out of that panel was an idea that I can't believe it took me this long to come up with because we were doing a shipping panel. So naturally, I ran down the shipping pairs in my song the 12 days of shipments, and suddenly I realized I can take each of those pairings and for each Pairing, do a song and that can become a ship Miss
album, oh, my goodness,
and the representation that I am going to put into this project, I've got queer shifts, I've got straight shifts, I've got a row asexual ships, I've got I've a just, it's a goal that I have to try to see how many different levels I can make this work on. That's, that's, that's how much I'm kind of putting into this and the songs that I've already got for this project. I think there's incredible potential in this material. And it isn't because I think I'm just so great. It's because I'm just so in love with what I'm with what I'm working on.
Right, right. Absolutely. Like, you may have noticed this, I haven't I didn't say very much during that whole thing. Because I was just so struck by what you were saying. It's so important. I didn't want to shallow the moment by going Ah ha ha. Because, because it means a lot. And like I speaking as someone who is gay and disabled, I know that a lot of our audience might feel like you belong to more than one tenant more than one grouping should we say. And I just like I love the fact that fanfiction is moving in a direction where it's becoming more aware of even things like neuro divergence of disability of things that make us unique and make us who we are. And I just want to say before we move on with the with Snape and Trelawny as a couple, part of what I love about them is also what I love about this broad theme, which is that, you know, if you're feeling different, and you're feeling othered, I just want you to know that that there's worth there. There's, there's joy there and you're being unique. And if you're not seeing yourself represented in this world yet, and you want to, you know, become a part of it be a voice in it, because you matter so much. And you know, when when we started talking about like them as a possible, a sexual pairing, or possibly even like demisexual pairing, the reason that that feels so good to me isn't because, you know, I want to somehow in a shoehorn in these, these attributes to characters that don't belong, I actually feel like it's a way of in other way they say drag reveals more about you than than it hides.
Hell yeah. can confer. Yeah, exactly.
I actually feel like this is a way of tapping into more about these characters, that we don't have a chance to broadly acknowledge in, in canon or elsewhere, and it's what makes it so magical, and experience for all of us. Right. But I, but that's why I didn't want to say anything while you were going. And expounding upon that, Jeff, because it was, it's just, it was so right what you were saying, and I didn't really not only did I not have very much more to add, but it also I felt like it's so important that we say this stuff, because we're also representing communities, right? We're also sort of ahead of the snowplow, if you will, culturally, well, while we're doing this, and like if we don't make the space, and if we don't acknowledge that this is going on, who will, you know,
exactly. And where it can sometimes I think be a little bit tricky with groups and people that don't feel represented is there are times where people want to see themselves represented, but they don't feel strongly about creating the content, yet they want it to be seen. And at other times, there are people who want that representation to happen, but they're worried about creating the content to fill that space, because it's another person's journey that they want to see represented. But they're afraid that if they don't do it, right, then it's going to come across as disrespectful. So what I would say if you want to see yourself represented, but you would be more comfortable if somebody else would open the door, reach out to the content creators who mean a lot to you, and have that conversation with them because the ones that I've met would be very, very happy, myself included, especially to help you with that.
I are getting emotional. This is really, it's it's so yes, so important that this is like no matter if you take nothing else from our entire podcast This is this is it. This is the crux of why a ship like Sybil and Snape work well together, because they it's another manifestation of the, the multifaceted tapestry of humanity engaging with itself. Like, that's all we want to see more of. And I, you know, I know that there can be an awful lot of pressure that society heaps on you and that maybe that you heap on yourself sometimes about representation, and that that's why it can be so difficult. But you know, if if we can make the space either for you to do it or like Jeff says, through maybe through another content creator who can can open that door for you in a way that would feel acceptable, then, you know, let's celebrate that together. I, you know, Jeff, maybe this might be a good time to sashay unceremoniously into your fit, because this is literally this is literally a demonstration of the sort of thing that I mean, you know, you didn't have to write something and bring this on to the pod you elected not to do that, but out of the generosity of your heart. And so you decided to share with me and our lovely listeners, something that I know is going to be magical, it's going to be golden. I can't tell you how excited I am about it. So I think I should just, you know, yield the floor to you.
What am I unleashing that love can mean only one thing.
I had to do a sinister laugh because the message that I sent to Meg's when you and I started planning this I think I sounded like Hellraiser I said something like we have such tortures are such delightful tortures in store for you. And then it was a GIF of the Grinch from the cartoon when he gets his wonderful awful idea, you know, exactly the
one that you're talking about. Because here's the
thing, normally, yes, in the past, in the grand tradition of Paris's burning. Jeff, get out your library card
library, it would never be closed, the library is open. There. There are just you know, for every guest of that library, there are just a different pair of spectacles each more Bejeweled and bedazzled than the last very
I'm, I'm living for it. And I'm living for whatever it is that you have to bestow upon my ears and the ears of our of our wonderful audience who I know are waiting on the edge of their seats for some of your marvelous Machiavellian
Murthy. I didn't know I was Machiavelli. You had to have a license for that.
I mean, yeah, but then you came up with this evil laugh. And I mean, I don't I don't know what to do with that. I'm a little excited. A little scared. Maybe even a little aroused? We'll see. We'll see what happens.
Well, I'll tell you what. I mentioned before Yeah, that I came up with the idea to take the 12 days of ship miss and expand it into an entire album you did where each of my ships gets a song. Some of those songs have been written they just haven't been recorded. Some of them are still simmering. Uh huh. But part of why I wanted to do this ship with you on this episode today is because I have finished writing my Snape and toolani song, and I'm going to sing it.
Oh my god. Tada. So I just, I don't know that I have the words yet for this. I need to. I need to.
Oh, don't worry. I've got the words for this. If you can see what I'm holding. It's a musical instrument. It's half a day.
For those of you listeners who aren't maybe watching the video of this Jeff is brandishing his very impressive instrument is about to regale us with what I'm sure will be
a very memorable look at this strap.
I Jeff is very proud. Very proud of the strap. I have It's a whole moment I'm I'm very very struck by this right now. So without further ado Jeff take it away
this is a song I call plant kept in the dark Forgive me if it's too loud
we can always if even if you want to like send the audio in separately and we just switch into a version of this that has the you know has a sort of a pre recorded version of this we can absolutely do that if that sounds better just I
like the idea of doing it live because if you happen to have a reaction to what happens I want you to react oh definitely
there's definitely going to be a reaction to this I mean how could that not be
okay, here we go plant kept in the dark by dream cloth
was always a fly on the wall with my nose book and I shuffle my cards and shuffle life as a whole never ever felt like and I thought to myself with my crystal ball to oppose now postmaster who was weirdly hot with his crazy hair and pale face like that was Captain Dorn
hell mysterious is serious he was a loner reached out and gave each other and I kept to myself with my crystal ball to a potion masters who is spiritually how his nose hair and pale face like there was Captain
see that Sam Harris is single and he's gotta think we just came around. We can snog between classes is the teachers
that I kept to myself my crystal ball to a portion masters who was with his nose his crazy hair and slack and
myself in my crystal ball
greasy hair and pale face that was kept in
oh my goodness, Jeff. Ah yeah, that was that that has some serious swing and suede you know as you were singing that I was thinking what a perfect like Fox Trot number that would be I was picturing like the throwaway over suede. The fact that Snape would love actually dancing to that. And the fact that what was the line you used where it was like weirdly hot with this with this pony.
Hair Yeah. And pale face like a plant that was counted the dark.
Oh, my goodness, I was so struck by how, like, yes, okay, I like I knew you want to do like a concept album. And you know what elevate the concept of the 12 days of shipment, which by the way, is a phenomenal like, Herculean task, but it was so Oh, like that was such a bop. Like I like I'll Foxtrot to that. Like that.
I love to see that. So,
so beautiful. Like I like I often joke about myself that I'm a dancer trapped in. Definitely in a body that can't dance. I'm very my aesthetic is very a rhythmical in this manifestation, but I definitely have like I have a dancers way of thinking about music. And as you were playing I was just transport it just it was so so beautiful. Like thank you for sharing that with me that was such like that makes this whole episode with in and of itself. I don't need to say anything else. It's just
you're welcome. And just as a special treat, I've got to let people know like on my on my social media so I'm going to be on there and I'm going to tell people that I wrote the song and it's going to be on the album but the album might take a bit so if they want to hear what I've been working on, they're gonna have to listen to your show. Oh because for a while this is going to be the only place that they can find
exclusive you know
if I was going to say I was actually going to ask you if you had anything to plug. I think we've we've sashayed very beautifully on to that. That subject and there you go listeners I will I'm very excited. Having listened to what you just produced and the beauty that is that number. I am very excited to hear more like I can't wait now to come back and do more episodes the pod just so we get to feature more of your beautiful dulcet tones as you I mean that was everything that was funny it was bluesy. Had swing and sway. It was considered it was like I just I'm I'm blown away Jeff, like I I'm also very aware that I maybe should have been referring to his dream coffee as well. You
know, you know where it's totally fine. It's absolutely fine in the wizard rock community and on my social medias, I do go by dream waffle. And I've the people will know that people will know that. It's it's, it's becoming more and more of a thing all the time, in fact, and speaking of plugging things, rock if you happen to be in the northeast, or you'd like to travel there, December 10 and 11th I will be playing some of my wizard rock at New England wizard Fest in Marlborough, Massachusetts, where by the way, I will be meeting our friend Giuliana in person
for the first so way oh
yes, honey, ma'am. Honey, sweet sweetie, darling, let me tell the storage to you for a moment. So I get back from LeakyCon in Denver, which as I said was an adventure of a lifetime. I'm on my way back to work after having just had this adventure. I get a message over Instagram from New England wizard fest saying somebody told them about me. They looked me up. And they want to know what I like to play their convention. And I said, Absolutely. So we worked it all out. And I'm doing social media stuff for them besides because they found out I've got this experience doing that. So I'm helping them out with that I'm happy to. And I booked this gig. And I texted Giuliana because I know that she's in that part of the country. And I said, so I just booked a convention. December 10 and 11th. Guess where it is? And she was texting me all these all capital letter one word responses. Wait, what?
Oh, it's so Juliana. It
really it's it is. And I'm thinking I was just wanting to let her know that I'm going to be at this thing so that she could maybe come and see me and we could meet up but she was planning on doing panels at this thing all along. How serendipitous. Is that? So she was already going to be there?
Oh, gee, I
know. It's worked out so
well has worked out so well. Okay. This is the moment where I want to implore you listeners, if you are anywhere near Massachusetts, or you want to be December 10 and 11th. Did you say
please? December 10 and 11th? Yes, yeah, please go
and see the wonderful dream waffle and Giuliana there at that convention. It's going to be I mean if I could transport myself there At that time, I wouldn't a heartbeat that's going to be so exciting. I'm so I'm just so proud that like to like CO hosts of this pod that I know and love are going and like going to do something that I know is going to be beautiful. I'm sure that it's going to be amazing. I will be there with you in spirit, if not in person. You have to will, you'll have to send me like videos and photos and let me know how you got on. And maybe we can even like link to some of them in the description of episodes we put out because I know our listeners are so excited to see what you have. Absolutely. And what you have to say and saying. i Wow, that is that is so exciting. And Massachusetts, by the way, looks generally like a wonderful part of the world. I've never been I've never actually been to the States at all. But like that whole New England d value is is definitely a mood and an aesthetic and very witchy in and of itself. So that's going to be glorious.
Oh definitely. You know, they've got Salem up there.
Haha. Yes. And like that is I don't want to say that that was my way into sort of, you know, witchcraft in witchiness. But it definitely informed something in my brain, you know, was of that age where I caught hocus pocus very early. It it activated something in my imagination. You know, then Harry Potter came along years later, different little things have bubbled their way into my, my consciousness, but definitely like Salem, Massachusetts, is it's a it's a biggie. And, you know, I'm not saying that hocus pocus has the most realistic rendering of that in the world. But there's that, you know, it's the I mean, there's other things like the chilling Adventures of Sabrina is very, you know, of that. Millia and I just, yeah, I'm feeling very positive, very optimistic about this gig. It's gonna be fun tastic we get just wow. Generally, like DQ is on the up and up, or things are coming up DQ
Oh, yeah. All things that are coming up DQ. And you know, in a way, you shall be there with me because I have got some Care of Magical shippers, podcast, pins, and stickers leftover. No, I'm going to take with me and use to spread the gospel of shock. To the fans, it's very that
yes, it is. I will let you go with it. Like we're going to be there as well. If you want to get your hands on some very lovely Mitch, as well as going to hear the dulcet tones of the lovely Dory muck waffle, go and do that thing in December, it's going to be so so magical. I like I'm excited. I'm not even going. So if you're a listener who is like on the fence, and is like, oh, yeah, I want to go but I'm really not sure. My advice is go and do it. Because you know, life is too short to have regrets. And you'll never know what it would have been like, if you thought about going and not gone. Please go because I can't go in person. And I really want to go go for me go for me and tell me what it was like, because that will be the cherry on top of the wonderful cake that has been this entire episode like this has been a dream to do with you. I like I was looking forward to this. But this has been transcendent. I think this has been one of our best collabs definitely.
Oh, absolutely. We must do this again.
Oh, that's gonna be a certainty. The question is just when, and you know what you want to cover next. But that's a very broad topic that we could, again, we could talk about it for hours. But also, if you want to hear the bonus episode, where we just discussed Jeff stories. We can absolutely do that too. Because sure, because I know that you're a repository of very many things that we could easily chat about. I would love to do it. So if you want to hear that bonus episode, get in touch with us at Care of Magical shippers, podcast mail.com. And if you have any other thoughts do that too. You know what our socials Are you can find us all there. I think that about wraps up everything that we wanted to say unless you have anything else that you wanted to add.
If you happen to be at your low Local drag review tip the Queen's a fucking dollar?
Yes. Well, and if you can afford it, maybe tip them more than $1 I guess perhaps
more or even send them a shot, but make sure that they see you sending it to them. So they don't think there's anything dodgy in it.
Yeah, or, you know, or if you know, or if they don't drink when we send them something non alcoholic, but But you know, the, I'm sure it will be appreciated, and there will be a lot of love there. And it never fails to pay to be nice. And you know, you don't need to break the bank to do it. So yes, support your drag artists, where and when you see them and you know what else support your fanfiction creators because they are gas people, and they deserve all the love in the world. Look what they've done with something as lovely as the Harry Potter universe, the wizarding world you know, every day is getting more and more expansive thanks to beautiful, creative, open minded people like you, who I know will appreciate the love even if it's leaving that bit of extra kudos on a oh three, or even if it's you know, supporting a pod thick project, or just writing to an author and letting them know how much you love their work, you know, that costs nothing. And it really trust me, it puts a smile on all of our faces. So if you can do that, please just do take that extra five minutes and just say you know how much you appreciate that. But in the meantime, it only remains for me to say that I love and appreciate you all dearly as well. And Jeff, it has been such a marvelous time getting to collab with you and do this again. The wonderful dream Coffeeville I'm sure we'll be hurtling right back through our goal hoops in no time scoring dog I didn't even need to say bye. We could just go out with my cackle. It's great. But you don't
have to say bye. You could say pan if you like seeing as I am. Once you
know that's I was gonna say Omni but yeah, I'll leave it at pub.
