It's my honor to welcome you to the great State of Oregon in the city for Joe Boyle. I'm a fourth generation Oregonian. My family came
to Oregon in 1938, not the German.
We ended up in Portland, Oregon and founded a company called Portland and Columbia after this building. I'm honored to stand here and very proud to say I was a supporter on the President's prior to the prime secondary, thank you for the successful efforts to pass this infrastructure
those of us living here in the state of Oregon, and those of us building businesses, they're already on behalf of all the employees. We were thrilled to see you and your team work Columbia performance last year,
can do about that all the time.
And on a personal note, we appreciate you inviting our CEO Tim Boyle to the White House last year to work on the plans to get vaccines distributed in this country to fight the COVID. We appreciate your leadership and incredible efforts in that regard. So from one job to another gentleman, the president United States. Right I
want first of all, Joe thank you very, very much. I appreciate it and Drow when and I also support the back and forth. I tried to make the speech standard. And I'm here for simple reason. The essence you have to say thank you. So many of you are going to be one off street nation. And you know that when I came to see him it was shortly after I decided to run because I hadn't planned on running. For real. I had no intention. Take a little story we when I saw those folks come out of Charlottesville see banners and chanting the same anti semitic violence chanting in the 30s. Joe, that when I decided that I thought this can't be happening in America. And then when my predecessor was asked, What did he think he said we were very good people. And I still included that. I didn't want to I felt like I should have just thought it was going to be really ugly campaign because there's circumstances and we have a we have a tradition in my family that any child can ask for a family meeting. And I got a phone call from my eldest grandmother down the line and just wanted to see if she was at that time. Freshman at Columbia Law School and then her sister and another sister was in Washington stone high school. And my deceased son boasts two young children. And so they said okay, this was on a Wednesday school. We met in college my whole life and they started off and said public gotta run. I said sure. There's gonna be a big campaign once you guys have to mature because their whole lives. They have been either had a grandfather who was a senator or vice president or vice president, and one of the dads and then the attorney general for a long time as well. And so they knew it was gonna be like, and and they started off and said that the daddy wants you to do it, wants you to do it and they made the case notice now he's 16 years old grandson, my son Hunter's son. My son boasts some data to set up and he took out his cell phone and showed a picture. I'm not saying I don't want to tell him to show me a picture coming out of mass Memorial mass burial of my my son and I had my hand on the handbag and I had my hand around 14 Read and, and the caption underneath the picture was like a blessing on the child. And I said he said it's okay. That he wants you to run. I ran. I cannot see some of your reasons for wanting to restore the soul of decency and honor, I meant that sincerely. Remember, I've had widely criticized for saying and secondly, I was going to rebuild the backbone of the country, which I consider to be the classic. For half way up in the wealthy still were able to do very well. And last year, I was going to try to imagine democracy cannot sustain us without unity. It's just not possible. And during the campaign, I talked about the fact that in my time, and eight years as Vice President I spent a fair amount of time during the foreign policy president and I spend more time with Xi Jinping than a leader. child centered model of Asia in the United States is very straightforward. He doesn't think democracies can function in the 21st century. dead Americans, that same attitude plus place. Because things are changing so rapidly, they do not believe that progress can proceed. Just because the world is changing. We're one of those inflection points in world history, where regardless who's headed, what's scape? There's a fundamental change taking place where there's a negative plane place, changing climate or things that are not just technology changing.
And then so what are the things that happened was I found working with Romania some similar work going on and and your delegation that we all figured out, we had to begin to invest in America and invest in America and we used to have for example, number one infrastructure in the world. We invested in America. One of the reason why we're the leading country in the world, 20 century, was because we are the best educated country. Others have Morison most prominent education systems that are now Northern, we're the only country in the world that have universal education, and retirement and imagine and so, one of the things that we started talking about was, we invest in our people. What do we do? Because so many people are being left behind. And so that's what this was all about. We started and one of the things that we can begin to see ministration we found ourselves in a situation where I believe we had to have coverage consequential and I know everybody thought was crazy and have nothing to do with inflation because he already decided to spin 1 trillion investing in America. We did. We brought the economy back. By the way, that same budget year 2021 We reduce the federal deficit by 350 billion.
investing in our infrastructure, we used to be the number one country wasn't always the pros, the cruelties, intercession opportunities, creates good jobs, creates opportunities for people who now with the help of Ron and progressives obligation we passed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure that was.
to happen is we began to rebuild and invest in our people, the way we hadn't done it. The other thing I decided to do on I said, restore the soul of America. I believe America should look like my administration's look like America.
Slightly more women is critically important. Point for African American Supreme Court appeal judges and every other president in history.
The 21st century we've gotten to be who we are. We are and all the acquisitions, but we only have one fundamental commitment. Now we're the only country that has formed based on an idea not geography, not ethnicity, August is going on. What is the reason why we came together? Because we said we hold these truths to be self. All men and women are created equal. endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights. Actually, no other nation in the world has been built on an idea, an idea we have never realized we had never realized until the last time came along. We've never fully walked away from it, we gradually made progress. And so the point that I want to make to all of this, there's so much that we still have to do because you know, and one of the things has changed is that be very brief on foreign policy. You recall that the last nutrition some, by the way, I'm not just talking about former President Trump. We have a whole this is not your father's Republican districts. This is not a kilt maker. This is a party its own home. All my guys like the senator from Texas and others, we really enjoy. Did you ever think we'd be in a circumstance where the Republican platform would be that as like the guy in his head of the Senate campaign committee, and the United States Republican Party, and even Republicans saying that every five years we should reconsider whether we keep Social Security. If you want a copy of it, I will send it away, remember why we won? We won all those seats back in 2018 because they kept for the first five of their time trying to do it with Obamacare. But what people didn't know what I'm about to get to they don't know about what we've already done. Just like they didn't know that because they lose. All we had to do. I went into 5856 races as a guy who was out of office for two years as a former vice president. Guess what? We all Republican districts, incumbent Republicans, we won 46 Here's the deal. It's really important. We said, Do you know why? You have a pre existing condition and you keep being denied insurance? Because nobody knew. We want to live on trations. But what I'm worried about now, is that we've done one hell of a job, but the fact is that because things have moved so rapidly, so profound, it's hard for people. Let me just give you a few statistics. We have created 7.9 million jobs in the first 14 months of my administration more than any said manufacturing is dead in America. Well guess what we've created 430,000 new manufacturing jobs. There's so claiming it also we've already run for three went from 6.4% to 3.6%. The fastest decline in American history was to reduce the deficit by $350 billion in last year's budget. And this year, it's on track literally to reduce it by $1,300,000,000,000. A guide you can make a million dollars but everybody has to pay me to share this table. Today is wrong. When it gets number 67 billionaire to the average taxpayer 3% Okay, I want just just I come from the corporate state of the world. Corporations in my state register, every other state you that you provide. But guess what? of the Fortune 500 companies for you know 40 $50 And did not pay a single penny requirements from the LDS going to talk to schoolteacher the nurse. That main lens in the Obama Biden administration, I remember seeing the grok after we passed the Affordable Care Act. Let's take a victory most notably, just like no one knew what was in it. They didn't know why they had what they had. They didn't know why. Well, we are very good job because someone's nice nice to say everything when our best focus here's the thing. One of the things I was absent. 24th. And that is that NATO. What happens in Europe is the foundation of what we can do around the rest of the world. Because there's no way we can escape that occurs in Europe should never occurred, never happened. And so remember the last guy treated data when he was the protection. If you don't do such and such we're not going to protect we're not going to honor like we're not going on well guess what? I will present the serious problems in a repeated invasion of Ukraine by five of you not only training some somebody in an actual book, and then Ukraine may have this session scaffolding is simple. I'm not trying to be more curious simply. But the point is the most important thing to have we had to do is how do we do? Not guarantee results. Men would not make any more be is or?
Not about a fact that the press was pointing out I guess it was two days ago I called all the world the major leadership in the world and said we got to stick together and keeping them because if we break the breaks up we've got a real problem in terms of our long term security and a lot of us it's going to happen. And so it takes touring. But we're not going to send the single American Force in Ukraine to start world war three. We're going to give every Ukrainian military capability that they have that we need in order to protect us.
Jobs are open job pays up to rebuild everything. Inflation I think the family has a price per gallon of gasoline and that was a topic of conversation but I mean for real I'm joking. Well, two bad things happening. One of the major suppliers or oil and gas in the world happens to be an option
and make sure that you're raising the prices and it affects a lot of people. It affects in Europe particularly low meaning it already is so one of the things we have to do is figure out how and the second reason why you go buy a dozen eggs and it costs more money. The reason why you buy a loaf of bread
is because the breadbasket of
Ukraine and Russia and then United States in terms of wheat and corn. And so we went through a tough period is nothing we can do all these companies in America same thing we can do nothing. I want to help you to share with your congressional delegation all of these lessons because they've been major leaders.
gonna gain control. For example, you know, one of the reasons for inflation last year was that 1/3 of all inflation is because of a lack of security. So came to see me asked me to come and see what's going on invest $20 billion in the new facility. And if we pass this over to Senator, you're trying to get done in the United States Senate. We're gonna He's gonna invest another 100 100 The United States of America were the ones who made great progress and progress when they stopped investing in yourself. So you go to Taiwan and other places to get computers or because no guilty, there's nothing from that cell phone you have in your head to the automobilia that can be considered a name. So guess what? The fact that we were making a difference and so I decided to help the delegation is that fair or not? I'm sorry. such incredible every my mother, she's going something. position where you're going to see we're going to move it we did one another 120 nations signing people are going to plant trees. position where we have the choice. Ignatius of have a reluctance to step up and do what they hadn't has to now goes through the choice so I guess what I'm trying to say. Absolute positive certainty that we can once again or even wrong in a way that's consistent. And we can grow ways or benefit ourselves with the rest of the world. And all the things we're doing as climate change. We will be able to export not only help the rest of the world but make sure that we in fact, create all these with a job. For example Intel we're going to have over 13,000 jobs in just one study well guess what the job Ramiz. Don't ever sell into this. We have some co workers from 934. We can we can do it ourselves. So anytime being paid, increases revenue. Cathy. Electric is kept as low as low class household when I was 20 years old. And that is my Senate colleagues. Course many facts is often election, making sure the Senate keeps kickback I think we can pick up to
making the case of no irrational government you're trying to raise money saying we're not kidding about and we haven't even talked about voting rights, gun violence, criminal justice, immigration, all things that we just have to know the good news is we have 50 senators in the West. Bad news is shifting on precedence. To Democrats. The idea that somehow we split the democratic was all people read about is the Democrats are dividing 48 numbers United States 96% of the time what do you have
to think about virtually no Republican support. My colleagues will tell you my way. I've been a guy who has not been one of these guys who just guys are always bad. I mean, certainly. And I had a reputation and my colleagues tend to send the same thing. Democrats. But what's happened? Here are a number.
No, they're afraid.
I know I want to ask for names. I'm sure my colleagues will tell you the six United States Senate conference. I know that no one should vote for this job. But if I do have a primary, yeah. Not very courageous. But this Harvard's take note of that. And still even conservative, a traditional sense of
what's happening in town farm shares thank you for the last time around. I'm trying to keep the house on set so thanks again thank you Governor.
