Good morning. Good morning, Marilyn. So before we get started, I do want to say a few words about this weekend as
our hearts first go out to the communities that have been impacted. You've lost so much and so quickly. So we are committed, the President and I and our administration to helping you and to help you to to heal the wounds, that will probably be long lasting. And we will continue of course to monitor the situation closely and to do everything in our power as the federal government and as leaders to help people through this.
do things with them. Again, I want to thank the members of the administration, American leaders for joining us here today Secretary Jennifer Granholm national climate advisor Jennifer Harvey, thank you for the work you do tireless in traveling around the country. That's inspiring, because then Cardrooms
in the same
office at home with my classmate entering the Senate, and I see you work so hard, I want to thank you both of my former colleagues that they could use this as a partner it's never been easier during the relationship
Good morning, you're saying lawyer? Thank you for all that you do. I was joking with him backstage about every time I was setting traveling around the world sometimes but always with a focus on what's in the best interest of the people around and he really has a jam and I think the economics
executive Angela also most many years we have worked closely together and thank you for your leadership.
Leaders really cameras on and when the cameras are off, they are the same people always fighting but the people of America fight with people who matter and they do so much that really is about having this fight. The fight is born out of optimism. Their work really is the work of inspiring people to see what can be affirmed and they have Professor thank you so very much for your team remarks lost in service to our country. So now in the year 2021. There can be no doubt the future of transportation in the in animation and around the world. is electric. And because that is true. Our nation's ability to manufacture charging your electric vehicles will determine many things
including the health of our communities, to the strength of our
a and three yes to the sustainability of our programs. So today I'll talk about each one in turn. First, the health of our communities. So as you heard last train governor, California I serve to the business as one of my highest priorities and during that time, I've heard about a town called Amuro alone. And this town has some of the worst air pollution in the state. And the community was demanding action
so I went there to visit to listen
to them to stay on.
neuron is a community not to my communities around the hard working people working hard times and in close proximity to large shipping warehouses and major highways every day, roughly more than 15,000 trips on melanomas, mangoes and so it's no surprise it dropped an incredible notice. Last and the airport was the first time I get the permission you ever had that experience
where the air can stain your
eyes and you can taste a hospital Another study showed that the children there were suffering from some of the poorest among development in any region of the state. People there told me that there were folks in their communities suffering from cancer from asthma, heart disease.
The fact is,
there are many you know it's all over. The pollution for kids. Powered by fossil fuels, as long pond is opened communities around our country, communities overlooked and underserved. But there is a solution to this problem. And it is parked right behind electric cars trucks and buses. They don't do this tailpipe emissions that irritate the nose and decrease lung function that increase susceptibility to respiratory illness. And so putting more electric vehicles on our roads will make communities like more more healthier here are our babies.
Which brings me to my second point the strength data economy.
Sales are driven by consumer demand. The auto industry is clearly moving toward electric. We need to make the shift faster and make sure it is driven by the United States. That means manufacturing millions of electric cars, trucks and buses right here in our country. That means outfitting 1000s of Evie electric vehicles. You care for others just like this one. And it means installing
a national ad services. When we
ask people what is the biggest barrier, so they'll be fine electric aren't? The answer is almost always very know where and how to charging. People who live in apartments for example. I have a private driveway where they can stop well when we install public chargers in rural, urban and suburban neighborhoods, we make it easy for people to low level effects. But being clear about what we need to get done and when to do it in the security to go like various elements.
We will create good paying good demand jobs in communities around our title. Earlier this year,
I visited the Thomasville lessons factory. And I talked to workers who are building electric school buses. I toured the factory floor and I spoke to you know all those school workers who make it possible electricians engineer can who took the time to develop their skills
to produce
the future of America. And I told them I'm God we must build on this work
into depends on you. Which brings me to my third
sustainability about 10. So the science is climate change has become a climate crisis. And it demands urgent action. across our nation, rising sea levels are flooding streets. Wildfires are burning
out. And here in the DMV. We have all felt the impact of extreme
storms and heat they burn to combat this crisis, our ministry just join other nations in setting Yes, ambitious but achievable goal by 2050. At the least we will achieve net zero emissions and one important way we achieve net zero emissions is by investing in zero emission vehicles. And that is why right now, we are making the largest
ever investments
in electric vehicle infrastructure and technology in our nation system. Last month, President and I were able to turn a bipartisan infrastructure deal into bipartisan infrastructure law with the company's extraordinary leaders who are right here. Pushes it along the way is an achievement in and of itself because as we all know, it was long overdue. It's an achievement in and of itself. Because it was in these moments of what can seem like artists and stuff. It was like art stuff. But this one will also invest $700 billion to build a national network of Evie charging stations it will invest billions more in electric power to make sure those charging stations are supplied
with clean energy
and drive from a village just when I was an undertaking, Senator, our bipartisan infrastructure level expand our nation's fleet of electric school buses with the moms who have been leaders Yes, we are very excited about the Lincoln school buses for good reason. Think about yellow school buses are our nation's largest form of mass transit. Our largest form of mass transit battlefields that many of us come to school every day, more than 25 million children and 1000s of kilometres ride to and from school on diesel buses. Breathing toxic fumes, maybe switch from diesel
tobacco is another thing and help and we'll be
cheering about future
and to ensure the robust implementation of the EU components of this. Today I'm also proud to release our registrations. We'd like to be able to charging action. This plan includes a new office, the joint office for energy and transportation that will ensure agencies are working together for the implementation of this law and I know Secretary Granholm and Secretary regular has more details tomorrow. But the presidents are very excited about this and have great confidence and their leadership of this innovative office. Now as significant as it is, as far as our bipartisan instructional model is part one, part two or two.
Is there a bill back? The President amount of the bill, the families are stretched and we take that seriously. And we are designed to help everyday folks who just need a little bit more support.
So we are lowering the cost of everything for childcare to come here. So that vehicles are built better and will cut the sticker price of new electric vehicles made in America by union workers by up to 12,500 jobs. And it will also and this is a new approach. A tax credit of up to $4,000 for us electric vehicles.
So here's the bottom line. We want families in America to be able to afford an electric car. That is amazing. The House passed our build back better half just for Thanksgiving. And the President and I are confident that the Senate was going to say
this bill is very painful. We will not raise taxes on any of them making less than $400,000 a year. We are
determined to
get past and break down every day costs for the people of our nation. So as I said it will store the future of transportation as electric but that is not enough. It must be done. And it is in places like Prince George's County and in Caracas experiment with every week we'll be looking at every charging station you install. You are building together we are building a better and isn't that
