Hello friends welcome back to the dream biz podcast, the business podcast that helps you automate, streamline and grow your business. So you can work less, make more money and flourish beyond what you thought possible. Today we're talking about one of my favorite topics ever. And it is the secret to consistent goal correcting. Now, I am sure that a lot of us, we set goals, maybe you set goals every single year, maybe you set goals every single month. But I think that if we were honest, a lot of us would say that we have trouble staying consistent with our goals, there's a reason that most people tend to fall off the trail the train of their New Year's resolutions, February, March or so. It's because we don't have a system for staying consistent with our goals. If you're following your feelings, and how you feel that day, you're just going to give up on your goals. I think when things get tough, but I don't want to see you do that. Now, personal story here. For me, I have a huge problem staying consistent with my goals, I tend to get really excited about things and go all in 100% for a little bit. And then after a while I fizzle out. And then I can't seem to stay consistent, I get overwhelmed. That was before I really dove in and dug down deep into what was really causing me to fall off in the middle. Why did I not seem to have success with my goals? It's just it's a few things. Number one, sometimes I didn't really have a plan to see the goal through to the end, if you just say, for example, when the COVID-19 pandemic started, I decided to do a podcast called verbally processing where I just talked about, you know, whatever was on my mind, it was just something that I did on a whim, I didn't really have a plan. And so after like 10 episodes or so I kind of got tired of it, and I just stopped posting. Now the fact that I stopped posting is totally fine. But uh, but I actually kind of felt a little bit of guilt, like, Oh, my goodness, I failed, I started this podcast, and I didn't really post more than 10 episodes, like what is wrong with me. But really, if I had taken the time to just sit down and say, You know what, this podcast, we're gonna see how far it goes. And if I don't want to do it anymore, that's okay, sometimes just closing the loop on that thought, and telling yourself, it's okay, if I, you know, if I just see where this goes as a creative outlet, or a passion project or something like that, that would help me to get rid of those feelings of guilt over not being able to achieve my goals. But let's talk about something else. Let's say that I really do want to see something through to completion. And I'm having trouble with it. For example, another example, I've been trying to launch this mini course, crush your goals with Christie for about two years at this point, I started really at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, wanting to transition into education. And I had this idea for a mastermind community, which is coming. I mean, I'm an announcement about that very soon. But for two years, I've had trouble actually getting it out there and actually achieving my goal of creating the membership and having people in the membership. I started out really strong. I had a beta version of the program. I had people in it, I got some reviews, it was really great. They had a great time. But then over time, I let self doubt creep in. I let imposter syndrome creep in, and comparison and just feelings of like, Am I good enough to put this out there? Am I really going, you know, are people gonna sign up just all these feelings of fear. Because I didn't have an actual plan in place for how I was going to achieve it was just an idea that existed in my head that I wanted to do. And when you have an idea that just exists in your head, and it's something that you want to do, but you don't actually have laid out the steps that you're going to take to get there. That's when it can be very easy to just forget about it and have it be something that you're like, Oh, I've always wanted to do this, but I've never been able to do this. And then you feel guilty that you've never been able to do it but the truth is you never had a plan in the first place to actually see it through to completion. So the first step to crushing your goals consistently is making a specific plan for what it is that you want to do and what its gonna look like when it's completed. And I think giving yourself deadlines can also to help you can also help you know what it is that you want to do and if you've got actually achieved it, setting up regular times to audit yourself and go back and review the goal is going to help you to determine is this something that I still want to do? Or is this something that I actually do want to let go? Once you have the power of choice, and you're able to make a choice of yes, I'm going to set this goal aside, it's done, I no longer want this to be one of my goals. If you can say that, then that's really going to help to block out those feelings of shame and guilt, when you just fell off the goal in the middle, maybe it actually wasn't a goal that you wanted to, that you needed to do. Or that, you know, sometimes goals change, sometimes your your feelings change, seasons of life change, and maybe the goal needed to change. But if you have regular audits in place, regular times that you're reviewing your goals and refreshing your goals, then you can actually say, Hey, here's this goal that I've been working on, do I want to continue with this or not? And it's okay to say no. So number one, how to crush your goals consistently have a plan to see it through to the end. And then number two, have a regular system of reviewing your goals and deciding what you will do next. So for example, I try to refresh my goals at least once a quarter, it's a great way too. I like it better than doing yearly goals. So refreshing your goals once a quarter for me is a great way to maintain consistency. And also to just make sure that I'm refreshing and re examining. Instead of just having year long goals. To me, that seems too big. I like to have quarterly goals. Maybe you want to have monthly goals for a while I used to use the cultivate what matters power sheets, goal planner, and they have you set new goals for every single month. And that worked well for me for a while. But in the end, I decided I wanted to go with a system of quarterly goal setting, you can do what works for you. There's nobody that says you have to do it this one way. So do what works for you. But have a time set aside. Maybe you go out and treat yourself to your favorite coffee shop and you have like four hours in the morning where you if you have kids, you get a babysitter. If you're married, you say hey, I'm going on this solo coffee shop trip to really set my goals and set an intention for the upcoming quarter and review your past goals. Because then it puts the power in your hands to choose what you want to work on and what you want to let go because it's totally okay to let go of things. So the secret to consistent growth crashing number one, having a plan. Number two, is having a system of regular audits where you go back and examine and determine what's working, what's not working. So what happens during these audits that I do for myself is I will first of all, I'll ask myself what really worked in this last quarter? What are some things that I'm proud of? What went really well? Is there something that happened that I started that was new that really really brought happiness and joy into my life or something about a goal that really worked and I was able to see those key results in my goals. What went well, then I like to say what did not go well, what did not really work? And what can I let go of. I also like to take this as a personal time to give myself an occasion for personal growth. So I like to ask myself, what are some personal wins that I had?
Who am I thankful for? Or what am I thankful for, and why? And just use it as a time to reflect to practice gratitude, and thankfulness. Because honestly, the practice of gratitude can really change my opinion on how an entire quarter went. I thought that my quarter one was terrible because I didn't feel like I achieved what I wanted to achieve. But when I went back and and did a gratitude journal over the last quarter, I realized, wow, I actually have accomplished a lot. I started a photography business I read, I brought my podcast back to life. I made some really amazing connections through rising tide society. So it was like actually practicing gratitude. Show me what I did achieve. So gives you a chance to refresh and focus on your wins. It really can get you out of a funk. If you're feeling like you've been in a funk. I love doing these quarterly refreshes. And it's also a time for me to look at my past goals and say which ones did I complete? Which ones are still in the middle of process and like still in progress? How can I maybe make some tweaks to my strategy? If you missed our episode on strategy? Check that one out. How can I do some and tweaks to my strategy. The strategy episode is episode 37. If you want to check that one out, where can I tweak that to see better results for the school? And also, which goals do I need to let go? Which ones are no longer working for me? Something that Braden Drake said is that if you have a task that you've moved over to the next day or the next week, or whatever, three times, that means it's obviously not a priority for you. And you should just go ahead and let let that go. And like I said earlier, putting that power back into your hands of deciding for yourself that I no longer want to do this can take away those feelings of shame and guilt, like, Oh, my goodness, I keep forgetting, I keep forgetting to this, it's getting pushed back and pushed back. It's okay. It's okay, you can change your mind about things. So what is the third secret to consistent goal crushing, I think this one is actually the most powerful. This is the one where I, if I don't have this in my life, I don't achieve my goals very well. And when I do, I'm able to see the results. And for me, it's community, having a group of friends or business besties that you can talk to, and share your goals with, share your wins, and also come to you with your struggles, and your pain points, the challenges in your life or those goals that you're like, Oh, I'm just not achieving this one, what's going on? Having a community has changed my life, without fail the times that I'm connected to people where I'm regularly meeting with them, and saying, This is what I'm working on this week. Or this is what I'm working on this quarter, can you help me achieve this, I want you to keep me accountable. So within community, we have so many things. First of all, it's just knowing that there are people on your side and people on your team that can help you when you're feeling down. Or that can help you when you need a new plan for your business. And you need to strategize something, having people that you can go to it's a huge burden lifted. So it's it's a, it's having support and knowing that you're not alone and that you belong to something I cannot tell you. How how revolutionary this has been for my business. For me it started with Chelsey Foster's empowered boss lab, it's a membership that she has for small business owners. And being there was so great, I was able to share with people what my goals are, and tell them and they could keep me accountable. And when I had something that was not going well, then I could talk about it and say, Oh guys, I'm really struggling, and they would give me support, they would tell me it was okay, tell me that I wasn't alone. And they would also help me strategize on some ways to get out of that rut, and do the next thing that I needed to do. What happened was actually, one of the reasons that I have not been able to launch my membership community was because I got out of mastermind, slash membership communities myself, when I stopped going to them, I stopped making progress on this because it's like I didn't have that. Those that cheer. Like those cheerleaders, that team of people pushing me on and to encourage me encouraging me to achieve my goals. That's why it's taken me two years to put this out is because I haven't had that team. Recently, I got connected with the powerhouse community, which is local to Greenville. And it's another group coaching type thing. So having a coach and a team of people who can support you, is going to take you so so so far, not only for support and encouragement, but also for accountability. Accountability is a huge, huge factor in achieving your goals. If you can tell someone, hey, I'm doing this, then automatically, I don't know what it is about our brains. But we're like, Oh, I really need to do this. Because I told this person that I that I was going to do this. It's why we have so much trouble working out on our own. And why we have so much more success when we go workout with a friend. Or when you sign up for a class and you actually pay money to be at the class. If I'm paying money for your yoga class, you better believe that I'm going to be there as many times as possible, and what's going to happen, I'm going to get stronger, I'm going to be more mindful, I'm going to have better, less back pain. But if I don't sign up for a yoga class, then it's going to be way harder for me to actually do the yoga and do what it is that I want it to do. I don't know what it is about our brains but we love to involve other people. We are social creatures and when we have community and people that we're doing things with it's so much better So it's accountability, it's community. And it's really just a place to belong, a place to be yourself a place to say, hey, I need help. Can you help me? And can we be on this journey together? So what I recommend is finding a group of people that you can be yourself with that you can share your wins, and your goals with having a group of people that you can go to every quarter, every time that you do your system of goals, refreshing your goals, go to them and say, Hey, these are my goals, and say, Hey, what's your what do you think about this strategy? Do you think this is worth going to work? Do you think this is a good idea? And you could even say, Hey, I'm not sure what exactly key results I'm trying to see from this objective. Can you help me brainstorm some results? Or, you know, you can say, Hey, can you take a quick look at this copy that I wrote on my website and tell me if it speaks to you, or if it's totally lame. I want you to find a community that you can do that with and share your goals with every quarter, maybe even every week, maybe you do a weekly check in, or have a group chat or something. Now, let me give you some places that you can find a community number one, this one's free. It's the rising tide society, you can go to honey book.com/rising tide, to find a local chapter near you. You can you can find people who are like minded, and who will be with you to support you on your business journey through the rising tide society. Another thing you can do is you can start a community yourself if you know some business besties that you have, you can reach out to them and say, Hey, do you guys want to do a weekly co working chat, or weekly co working at this local coffee shop? Or you can say hey, do you guys want to do a weekly zoom check in or a monthly zoom checking or quarterly goal setting parties like you can go out there and make your own community for yourself and make it happen. And that's totally free. Now, if you need more support, I want to tell you about this program that I'm super excited about. I've been hinting at it. It's something I've been working on for two years. But it is the biz besties community, Christy's biz besties, I want to have you as one of my biz besties. So I want you to go to Christie Johnson creative.com/biz besties, that's bi Z besties. And over there, you'll find information about my membership mastermind community. So let me tell you about what it is, we're gonna have weekly virtual co working calls, these are where we hop on Zoom. And like, you will be amazed at how much stuff you're gonna get done during the Zoom calls. It's a two hour deep work session. Deep Work sessions are very important to me. It's where we work, distraction free for two hours, and it's guided. So at the beginning, we chat, we talked about what we're going to do, then we take a break, and we work for a little bit and with cameras off, so it's not weird. You can leave your camera on if you want to. But you work. And then we come back halfway through and say hey, did you get it? Did you accomplish your task? How did it go for you? And if you're like, oh my god, you know, it went really well then we're like, Woohoo, great. But if you say, oh, you know, I had some trouble with this, then we can say, Oh, well, here's maybe something that you could try. You can also pop into the chat and get feedback on whatever that you're working on. It's basically your personal group of business besties. That's why I'm calling it the biz besties community.
We're also going to have regular mastermind chats, they're going to be at least monthly maybe even more frequent Lee than that, and what a mastermind chat is, if you're not familiar, it's where we all get on the call. And we each person is going to have time to talk about what is what they're struggling with in their business or a goal that they want to achieve or where they can get help. And we're all going to be able to workshop a solution to that challenge or that problem or give support and advice to basically you're using the collective group of people to to help you figure out the solution to your problem, it's going to be amazing. So we're gonna have mastermind chat, we're gonna have co working every single week. And not only that, we're also going to have goal setting parties. So every quarter, we're going to set our goals together. So it's giving you this community where you can set your goals and get feedback on your goals and accountability. So that's gonna be every single quarter and then every single year, we're going to do a big business planning workshop, and talk about the tasks that you need to tend to as a CEO of your business. It's going to be amazing. It's basically just a big party. Not only that, we're going to have a group chat where we can talk and send voice messages or just chat to each other throughout the week when we need support or just talk about things that are going on in our life. So it's basically just a community of business besties it's called the biz besties community. So I would love to see you there. If you want to learn more about it, you can head over to Christy Johnson creative.com/biz besties that's bi Z BSTIES Kristi Johnson crave.com/biz besties. Again, guys, Kevin a community is the secret to consistent goal crushing. And I want to see you achieve your goals and I would just love to hang out with you. So head over there.
