Hey y'all hey, it's your girl Jessica Lauren, and I am coming to you with this week's quick tip. Alright ch'all, so this week, I want to challenge you to create our hard stop time. Well, what do I mean by that, you know, a lot of us are working from home. And it is so easy for the day to just go by super fast, like, ask me how I know. I feel like every day I look up at the clock, and I'm like, dang, it's three o'clock already. And my to do list don't look halfway done, you know, I still have some important tasks to get out of the way. And no matter how hard I try, time just slips past me. And I'm like, you know what, it's okay, I'm working from home, I could just do it for one more hour, two more hours, three more hours. And you look up and you know, is nine o'clock at night, 9:30 10 o'clock. And I used to pride myself on being able to work like that, like, look at me, I'm a goal getter. I'm a hustler. But I am at a point where I want to have a very full three dimensional life, like I don't want my work to be the only thing that my life has to offer. Like I have self love, I need to get to love of my friends and family. I have hobbies, it's just life just isn't all about working. And so what I've had to do for myself is to schedule in a hard stop time. Like, Jessica, I don't care what's on that to do list. When six o'clock hits, you are done three o'clock, four o'clock, whatever the case may be, make sure that you have it scheduled in your Google Calendar in your planner that this is the time that I am going to stop righ?
And the reason why I like to do that is because of a couple things, right? It helps me honor healthy boundaries with my work, right? It helps me again, just reiterate the fact that this isn't the only thing that's going on in my life. And two actually makes me be a little bit more efficient, right? When I'm like, oh, we'll finish this today. And oh, I know I'll you know, take a nap around four, get back up at six and work from six to 10. Like that's just fine. We'll just takes me longer to do the work, right? But when I'm like no, everything has to be done by four or is getting transferred over until tomorrow. Then I'm like, oh snap, I really have to focus. Let me put down my phone. Let me stop, you know, watching YouTube. Let me really, really get laser focused on what I need to do. So having those hard stop times actually makes you more efficient. And it just helps you set work boundaries, even if you're working for yourself is like listening, work is always going to be there right? As long as you're living there's always going to be something to do, but you can't let it run your life. You have to run your schedule.
So that's my quick tip for today. Schedule in a hard stop time and you can't negotiate with yourself you can't be like we'll give it 30 more minutes 20 more minutes 15--No, you need to stop. And it's okay if you need to write down real quick Okay, finish this stuff tomorrow. That is fine. But baybay maybe I went fast six, seven. whatever time you give yourself is here, honor it and stop and then go do what you was going to do. Whether that's sitting relaxing, or watching TV or going to workout or Kiki and on the phone with your friends just remind yourself I am a whole human and work isn't the only need that I need to fulfill I need to eat something I need to go pee-- like sometimes we work so hard that we don't even go to the bathroom. And I got that from Natalie Louise she was like my biggest New Year's resolution is just to get up and go pee when I have to. And it sounds silly but we get that tunnel vision right because we goal getters as we really want to finish our work but goodness we have to learn how to start honoring our mind body and spirit and not just our work.
So that is it for today's quick tip. Thank y'all so much for tuning in.
