I think the greatest impact is going to be as we start emphasizing the prosecutions that are happening. Las Cruces just emphasized that they arrested three teenage students, and I think that's great. We recently arrested a student who took a gun to a school. And I think that that's very noteworthy. Again, I would much rather prosecute a student for a terroristic threat than for a capital murder. I would much rather arrest a student and prosecute that student for bringing a gun into a prohibited place, a weapon and prohibited place, than for an actual shooting. So I applaud the students in that high school for identifying Hey, teacher, hey administrator, I saw this guy as a gun. Much rather have that happen than later in the day.
I don't know what he was thinking. If
he was thinking scare people or trying to get attention. We don't believe that he was actually going to commit an armed assault, but nevertheless, he was arrested. He is being prosecuted. So I think that there is an impact. Hopefully it is a long term good impact. We're going to repeat the showing of that video at each semester to help showing the video to the students at each semester, in order to help emphasize that there is a felony prosecution for anyone involved in gun and bomb threats. Sheriff
in Florida release the mugshot and 11 year olds who made a threat against the school. What are your initial thoughts on that? And is that something you would consider seeing here in El Paso? I
don't think it's appropriate to release mug shots of juveniles. Certainly, some juveniles are going to be prosecuted as an adult. So if a juvenile, after certification, they've been certified to be prosecuted as an adult, then I think it's appropriate to release a mug shot, but I would not release a mug shot of a juvenile. I
don't think that's
appropriate. That would send a stronger message in the PSA. I
think it's appropriate to say, as they did in Las Cruces, hey, we've arrested a 14 year old. Hey, we've arrested a forget the pages of the students, a 15 year old, 14 year old, we've arrested these students. They attend this school. We've arrested them and we're prosecuting them. I think that's sufficient. I don't think you need to know publicly, the mug shots of those children, in all honesty, in the school, they know. The kids know,
hey, it was, you
know, John Smith, and they know, right? The kids know who was. And that message is spread among the kids. And that's where the message needs to be spread. The kids need to have that understanding that law enforcement takes it serious. They're going to make some arrests. Irvin hustle as the governor and DPS through El Paso into the spotlight. What's your message to El Paso? El Paso is still one of the safest cities in America. We continue to be that, and we will strive to continue to be that, and even be a sacred city. Your law enforcement agencies, both local and state and even our federal agencies, are working strongly, working hard together to address TDA. We're not going to allow them to manifest
a foothold here in El Paso.
I thank the county attorney's office, in cooperation with law enforcement, for going forward and disrupting that hole that was set up at the Gateway disrupting operations. We will take whatever measures are necessary to continue to disrupt TDA. They're going to go after them aggressively for prosecution. We're going to go after them aggressively to prevent them from from setting up operations. We're coming after TDA. We're going to continue to protect our community the best we can, and with all resources of nature, a
lot of concern from
people, and we haven't really gotten answers from officials about like, what's being done? Do you feel that it would have been better to kind of ease some of those years by having this press conference
last week? Well, I wasn't anticipating the governor's press conference announcing and saying the words like the word ground zero and 100 people were suspected TDA members. I wasn't expecting that. So I was pleased with the press release that county attorney, such as released. I was pleased with the with the progress that was happening with the announcements of the judge granting the tro, so I didn't want to step on the toes of the county attorney as they were processing their tro and moving that case ahead. But I do think that a press conference was appropriate. I was just not sure what the timing would be. Certainly, the, the events that have unfolded this week made it, made it very urgent have a press conference yesterday, there was some briefing that I needed to get before I came in to talk with you. Finally, else. Okay,
