Search by Keywords

Keywords make your conversations easier to navigate. The following steps will teach you to easily search your conversations using keywords.


  • Search by Keywords

Keywords are terms that you use to search the text of your conversations

  1. Open a conversation.
  2. Select the search bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Type the word or phrase that you would like to search for within the text.
  4. Select “Search” or your keyboard’s enter key. Otter will highlight all occurrences of that word or phrase within the text. Select the play button  to listen to the synced conversation moment.
  5. Navigate through all incidences of that keyword using the up and down arrows in the dark blue bar at the bottom (mobile) or top (web) of your screen.
  • Search by Summary Keywords

After you record, Otter auto-generates a collection of keywords that help you navigate your conversation with ease. These keywords consist of terms that are used frequently in your recording.

  1. Open the conversation you want to search.
  2. Select to select the keyword you would like to search for from the collection of words in boxes above the body of the text.
  3. If there are many summary keywords for the conversation, some words may be hidden. Select the “See more” button to reveal those words.
  4. To search the text for a summary keyword, select one of the words. Otter will highlight all occurrences of that word within the text.
  5. Navigate through all incidences of a keyword using the up and down arrows in the dark blue bar at the bottom (mobile) or top (web) of your screen.
  • Search All Conversations

You can search all of your conversations for a certain word or phrase.

  1. In your Home screen, select the search icon on the top right to access the search page. All the search keywords you recently used will be displayed below, select any of them for quicker search.
  2. You can also open the sidebar by selecting the three horizontal bars at the top left of the screen.
  3. Select the “All Conversations” tab.
  4. Select the search button at the top of the screen.
  5. Type the word or phrase that you would like to search for within the text.
  6. Otter will show you a list of all of your conversations that include that search phrase.
  7. Select a conversation to look more closely at incidences of your search phrase within that conversation.
  • Recent Searches

Otter allows you to easily review your recent search terms.

  1. Select the search button or bar at the top right of the screen. A pop-up featuring your most recent search terms will appear under the search bar.
  2. Scroll through the list of recent searches until you find the one you want to look at.
  3. Select the term to search for it within your conversations again. The names of the conversations containing the term will appear in the pop-up.
  4. To look at one of the conversations, select the title.
  5. To erase your search history, select the “Clear all” button.
