Next up Antonio Johnson. Believe it or not, we are only to the second safety in this class. But safety out of Texas a&m, six foot, two ish 198 pounds out of East St. Louis, Illinois. 21.4 years old, oldest of four kids. Born and raised by his mom, four star recruit number four safety in the 2020 class one spot behind Brian branch number one recruiting Illinois. Overall, Johnson has undisciplined tendencies and is still getting his body organized technically, but he is at the best near the line of scrimmage with his own instincts and eagerness to drop the hammer in the run game. His playstyle is reminiscent of Jamal Adams albeit in a different body type that's a heck of a heck of a praise there Texas a&m Three years really only been like two and it's kind of only been like one because he was hurt apparently a lot in what would what is he? Sure it says his injury he just says miss three games as a junior because of injury, but 64 grade as a rookie where he didn't play a ton. Then the second year when he played the whole year 87.4 And this past year, which was he was injured at 1.6 and went back a little bit but at 1.6 overall at 3.7 run defense 70 tackling 65.2 pass rush he did 16 times and then 79 Seven coverage as far as consistency not great 6060 6060 6050 and then 7884 72. So his 81 is comprised of three really good games and then a bunch of average. Also he kind of played all over the place in terms of his slot or is it his safety designation it was slot strong safety slot free safety free safety slot strong safety slot slot. The only game I got of him was Alabama which was his worst game 57th grade. So I'm not an i This is the same conclusion I came to actually did go back to 2021 because he had better grades and saw his Mississippi State game in which he had a great tackling grade and you know 72.2 Overall, I still am not a big Antonio Johnson fan and the same thing is said about Brian branch, right? Everybody's like, Well, Brian branch are coming in smoke again, Antonio Johnson, what do they say in this this draft guide here said eagerness to drop the hammer. He doesn't have that. Here's the thing. It's one thing if there's a wide receiver screen, and you got a defenseless man hanging in the air, and you're gonna go lay him out. That's great. But what happens when you got to come in from 15 yards deep, deep middle of the field. You know what I saw that really bad Alabama game, he runs up he stops because he doesn't want to hit him full speed because that's going to hurt and then tries to make a tackle and just completely whiffs and even if he makes a tackle in that situation, what's going to happen he's going to stop he's going to grab them hold on for dear life and ride them to the ground, allowing him to get an additional five or however many yards if he can even make a tackle. Look, it takes a special Brady you know why we all liked Rudy Ford, because he's a special Teamer. You know what a special teamer is it's a guy that will run full speed down the field 2530 yards whatever it is in smack dead into a guy that's running as fast as he can in the opposite direction. Of not a lot of guys have that Antonio Johnson and Brian branch don't have that. They just don't and they're gonna be the same guys that frustrated us to death who will run up from deep and will just completely miss on a guy or not really just lay him out like we need them to do just come up. Just crack a guy like like Adrian Amos will. He'll come from deep and tackle a guy behind the line of scrimmage somehow I don't even know how he does that. We've seen enough of this. I don't want more guys like that on top of that for five to speed. You know, he played a lot of zone. But I mean he doesn't have phenomenal coverage ability. He doesn't have speed to be able to keep up with guys. He doesn't have that killer instinct as a safety. I just can't really get into the Antonio Johnson thing. Anyways, why don't we go ahead and take a break, we've still got three more prospects to get to them being a little bit more wordy than usual. But we got DJ Turner, Julius Brent and Clark Phillips coming up after the break. I may have said this already. But thanks to Josh rule maker for upping his pledge as well as Mr. Zachary Barnes. Matthew Hubert, and that's it. Also, I do have a new Jordan love shirt. I haven't posted it yet.
